Nikon D5000 and 18-55mm would be a good start - a friend bought one last week and I was quite impressed with it. Easy to use; light; great image quality and VR built into the lens - another £130 for a 55-200mm VR eventually and you're more or less sorted....

I spoke nicely to a shop assistant and got a Canon 500d with 18 - 55 lens for £547 if you could stretch a touch, otherwise how about a canon 450d?

As Cris_L mentioned, a Canon 450D is a great camera, I know fellow skydiver cameramen who strap one to there helmet and abuse it for years, up to 10 exits a day with faultless results :D

If it can go through all that it gets my vote

I bought a 450D S/H on here last year and so far have taken about 10,000 shots with it with no problems at all!

A great lens to go with it is the Canon 28-135mm IS USM - very sharp - It has become my main walkabout lens.

You could get both on here for less than the money you have.

.

I give the Nikon D5000 my vote, punches way above its weight:thumbs:

I got a 450D, with both kit lenses (18-55 and 55-250) for just under £500. All stuff second hand sourced on here and mpbphotographic. Well worth it!
