Hi guys

I need to purchase a couple of memory cards for use this weekend.

What is the maximum size the Canon EOS-1D Mk1 can take? I don't want to be buying 4Gb card if the camera can only use 1Gb!

Cheers

John

You'll have to check the firmware update info i'm afraid. Most can manage any size going, but i couldn't say for definate if Canon haven't contunued to support. I would guess that you should be OK..... but check with Canon

I will hazard a wild guess in saying that up to 2 Gb would be recommended as this camera must be roughly concurrent to the 300D.

Bigger than 2Gb might work, but you could possibly have reliability hassles - and then maybe not.

I heard once from a pc bof that it has something to do with the file transfer protocol or method(:bonk:   )

Maybe Mr Charlton could explain the difference between fats32 and ntfs...

Had a look in the discontinued models on dpreview and saw only the EOS 1D - 8FPS and 4.xx Megapixel.

Is this the right 1? It doesn't say Mk 1:shrug:

I think its 2gb max useable cards - I did try a 4gb in mine but think it only recognised 2gb of it.
I always presumed that the Mk1 prefix is used by users to avoid confusion with the megapixel version used (although for some reason, there are a lot of people that get really really irritated by the use of the Mk1 term ) & it also helps when you are describing multiple cameras, eg: 1D's as people think you mean the 1Ds  A bit confusing.
Let me know if you find out any different as I'd be interested to know

Deal of the century for you. Get a nice Scandisk Extreme III 4GB and, if it deosn't work, i'll swap it for a generic brand 2GB card that I'll acquire for you new from tescos. That way, no losers and we're both winners.

What say you?

I'd agree with going for the Sandisk though as they are great cards (although I do have two Lexar cards & they seem every bit as fast)

I did see Dixons / Currys were doing a big sale though so it might be worth jumping on-line and collectig from store (if they do that kind of deal)

I'm looking for a larger card for my 350D - what speed should I be looking at? 80x? 120x? Any recommendations on supplier?

Thanks
