What is your ambition, in terms of photography, at the moment?

Mine is to get a picture in Autosport. Every weekend I send on to them to see if they can use it. I havnt got one yet. They do, however, say that they are good enough for the magazine, they just havnt got the room. I guess I will keep trying and hope for the best!!


What is yours??
 
Think mine would be to to travel the globe tacking pictures of wildlife in its natural habbitat. :)
 
I'd love to have a portfolio of images good enough to exhibit and sell.

Yea mine also, either one of my rally pictures in either Autosport, Motorsport News or even The Sun.
 
Don't have any other than making even more money than I already do from it asI got debt to pay off lol

Sounds fair!

Mine is to get competant enough that I cut down the amount of "trial" shots to get to the one I want. It`s just a matter of practice though. Also being able to "see" shots easier would help.
 
Fairly happy with there Im at just now. Recognised for my work by the people that matter and getting paid for it. Had photos in newspapers, magazines, on TV so fairly content :D
 
Well, I entered my first competition last month, and made it as far as the final shortlist. I was made up with that (it meant I beat approx. 300 other togs) but then the gallery went and invited me to do a solo exhibition sometime next year. So now my goal is to produce a coherent body of work good enough for that. Eep.
 
to take pictures that people look at and go wow!
 
I sold my first pic today :thumbs: so I'd like to do that again - and next time for more than a few quid.

But I'm also trying to think more about what I do and why - and where I go and what I expect to get out of it. I want to keep enjoying it as much as I do now.
 
Just to take better pictures. It's a lifelong aspiration.

To master handholding my Canon 300 2.8 IS in the field and getting closer to the awesome wildlife out there! At the moment, I feel like going to the gym and building up my arms :bang:

I'll get there with plenty of practice, practice and practice :woot:

EDIT: also spending more time with wildlife subjects as I find the feeling of being awestruck is an amazing experience every time it happens!
 
Mine is to get enough time away from my day job to do more togging!

Seriously, 50-60 hour weeks and an average of two days away from home each week are seriously denting the time I have with my family so the photography has had to go on the back burner for a month or so.

But I have plans......... I'm going on a Brett Harkness course next month on winter weddings because I have my third wedding coming up in December. It's only one week from the shortest day so I'm anticipating the light may not be the best, hence some expert advice is not going to be wasted!

I'd like to carry on with wedding and commercial photography in the hope that one day, those 50-60 hour weeks will be for me and my family, not someone elses profit.
 
To become good enough to sell my images
 
Just to sell the odd image here and there, I've had a few now and it would be nice just to keep that going at a steady pace.

Where are you based? There is a good location 30 miles from me, it's not a feeding site so it makes it even more rewarding to get a good capture :)

Apart from the obvious ambition of becoming "Bening Emperor of the Universe" it is to become good enough that I take photographs that other people judge good enough to hang on their walls as pieces of art. So it looks like I have quite a long photographic journey ahead of me... but I should be crowned Emperor in about six months if all goes to plan, watch this space.
 
I just want to be good at what I do and be able to see a photo opportunity when it stares me in the face, LOL.

To take photos and for people to say "WOW" would be an achievement!!

To find someone that can be bothered to crop and process all the crap pictures ive taken and make masterpieces

Apart from that, just to get better, and hear positive comment . Really. Photography, to me, is my hobby not my job. I dedicate much of my free time to it, and a simple virtual 'pat-on-the-back' is reward in itself; it makes my trips out, my homebrewed 'assignments', my goals seem worthwhile that perhaps some of my peers think I'm not wasting my time...

Oh, a National Geographic contract would be pleasant, too... but seriously - if you have a flickr account, link to me, and I'll return constructive comment to you!
 
To be a professional documentary photographer, working for magazines, NGOs and whoever else is close to the issues I want to cover. I will get there :)
 
Complete opposite to most, but my 'ambition' is to get as far away from anything remotely commercial as possible.

Amongst other things I've shot a wedding, documented Venice for a magazine feature, been offered plenty of freelance Motorsport photography work and had quite a bit published. I appreciate I'm very very lucky in that respect as I don't think I'm that good, but it's not where I want to be at all. I was shooting Motorsport every weekend just for the pleasure of it, I absolutely loved it and it was my 'escape' from the daily grind. As soon as that and other areas of photography became work, I hated it. Having to get a shot instead of shooting what I like takes away all the fun from my 'hobby'.

So my ambition is to 'stay behind the fence', as it were, as I find it infinitely more rewarding and enjoyable. I now ignore requests for photo purchases from drivers etc (usually get quite a few after each event) or politely reply and say they can easily have the image at full-res for free from my site (technically you aren't allowed to sell them anyway). A year ago I was desperate to sell some pics, if I could have seen myself now I dread to think what I would have thought of myself!

At the most I will probably continue to enter the occasional competition as it's been good revenue stream for getting new gear, without the pressure normally associated with making money from photography.
 
To have people choose and want to look at my pictures rather than just inflictng them on people:lol:

Mmmmmmm. It seems I am a bit different to most people on here! :) I have no desire to make money from/see published/exhibit any of my pics. I stopped taking pics for other people years ago - my pics are for me. Quality wise, I always hope that I can improve, but it is not a neccessity: I was happy with the way my pics looked thirty years ago, and I am still happy with the way my recent pics look once they are printed. That is not to say that my pics are perfect - they are far from it, and I can pick holes in every single one of them, but I enjoy taking them and for me that is the most important aspect of my photography - enjoyment.

I think that holds true for most of us as well - enjoyment/pleasure from their photography. How we attain that is different for each of us. Some get it from having their pics widely published, others strive for stunningly high quality images of their chosen subject. For some people it is all the work and build up before the shutter is tripped. For some people it is just to be different! All of our ambitions (or lack of them in my case) are correct - no-ones is wrong - it is what keeps us all taking pictures!

That is why I enjoy looking at all the images here on tp: They are all great images in their creators eyes - that is why you took them, and choose to share them with the rest of us. Most of them I can see, and appreciate, even though the subject may be something that I would/could never take myself. There are some images that I cannot get. That does not mean that they are bad images, or wrong. It is just that I am unable to appreciate what it was that impressed the photographer enough to share it with me.

And that IS my photographic ambition: To be able to see and appreciate more images taken by many different people. So I thank all of you who share your pics on here (Plus Marcel and the gang who run this joint), for helping me towards my ambition.
 
To learn how to process properly, and to have a picture that is worth processing!!
 
Build up a nice portfolio as it were, and just to have fun! I know it won't be a proper career for me until much later in life (hopefully) so I'm going to get out there and snap. That's all there is to it :D
 
Right now it's to turn things up a notch.

Sick and tired of outputting only above average images, really want to crank things up and get towards going pro :)
 
Other side of the coin here.

I had an ambition to work in F1. I've done that now (covered 36 races in total before moving on: the travel was a killer) and so I am a bit lost............still looking for my next ambition.........
 
Mine is to get to a stage where I can constantly produce photos that are of a decent High quality. I have a fair way to go yet, but I'll keep trying!

One ambition for this year is to enter each of the last few TPPOY comp and come out with at least one vote.
