I think it says nothing about Twitter and everything about the idiot writing the tweet to be honest, I have no doubt the same outcome would have happened if it had happened on Facebook or some other social networking site! :shake:

Dont get me wrong, I am not a grumpy old man (yet) but I just dont understand Twitter. What is the point and whats it all about. I was on a business networking forum earlier and looked at someones Twitter posts that day. Nothing at all worth reading!!!

So what is the point? Why should I care that someone is enjoying or hating the snow, or off to Birmingham tomorrow? I saw the post on here asking about celeb followers... not wishing to sound rude but what do people post and why would people want to follow?

How would it help you build your business?

Maybe at 36 I have hit the technology buffers!! Have a facebook account but only use it for PPC on facebook, and not like my wife does!

i dont get it either, you get things like i just stood in a puddle whats the point :bonk:

Right, thought if you dont have a go you will never know... so registered.

Now what? Did a basic search for things that may be of interest... hard to look locally as it keeps throwing Boston US up as well as UK (looking for Cambridge). So, I obviously have no followers, so if I post a comment who see's it?? Looking around, 99% of comments do seem utterly pointless so will give it a while longer but not looking interesting.

I posted this in another Twitter thread, you might find it useful.

Another thing to find interesting people is this website. Type in something that interests you and it magically comes up with a list of the most interesting people to follow, so if you're looking for photographers it'll look like this.

Having read some of the comments on here (socially inadequate etc), I doubt some of you would get anybody following you on Twitter anyway!

I think to embrace Twitter properly, you need a mobile device that'll support, whether that be phone, laptop or whatever. You can then 'blog your day' and also find out what other people are up to. The beauty of it is it's simplicity - 150 words to describe whats happening at a given point in time in your life!

Until I got my flash new phone, I wasn't really that interested in it to be honest (though I did go on about once a month from my home PC) but I use it throughout the day now - in fact my latest tweet simply says 'Socially inadequate'!! :D :p

 And people wonder why twitter isn't for everyone... I suppose at best it could be construed to be a diary of sorts.

(and yes, I've tried it, have all singing all dancing social networked mobile communications, but I'm still too busy leading a life to write about it in 150 words or less. :bang:)

Yep, that's the way I see it - an open diary that my friends can see. Writing 150 letters a couple of times a day does not infringe much into life. Some would argue that it would take a hell of a lot more time to make 1700 posts on an internet forum, a sure sign of social inadequacy........:D

I would argue that the likes of Facebook, Twitter etc may well be providing a social commentary of the current generation in the same ways that letters & telegrams did 50 years ago. Perhaps when historians delve into the past in a couple of hundred years time, some of their primary data will come from these sources.

A point you may wish to labour on some here whose posts run into many thousands - Marcel perhaps? His post count must be into 30-40,000 by now, a sure sign of being a social inadequate using your comment. You weren't inferring those here with a high post count are socially inadequate, were you??? That's asking for :bat:

Lord help future generations when they look back and see brain stimulating twitter comments such as "I just stood in a puddle" :cuckoo: Twitter is certainly a divisive tool eh? Kind of the Marmite of blogging perhaps? :D :)

My point exactly Hepburn - friends of mine who have never got into online forums or communities like TP, take exactly the stance you take regarding Twitter ie 'bloody computer nerd', 'I've got a life', 'you won't catch me doing that' etc!! Also, not every post on this site is interesting or relevent, in the same way not every Tweet is!!!

Accept it, Twitter and TP are very similar......;) :D

Hmm... No need to tweet a diary of your life then, given your 700+ posts here - surely? :exit:

I only had time for 700 posts, as I've been tweeting....if I'd focused my efforts solely on TP, then my post count would be probably be about a 1000 higher.....:thumbs:

I have to agree, it does make me laugh that most people who say things like 'Twitter? Facebook? I'd rather live my life than talk about it...' are generally doing just that. Talking about it. On the Internet.

Oh the ironing!

Twitter = simple

You like it? Join in, tweet.
You don't? Then don't. Couldn't be easier!

That has to be one of the most belligerent responses I've ever seen on this forum. Do you have a source for your quote to give it some context?

Would it make any difference to you if i gave the source ? it doesn't need any source to give it context, i simply said i read it somewhere, to be honest i'm not sure if it was here or another forum, but i don't think it was anyone of particular substance, like your regular Albert Einstein, just someone who gave an opinion and i tended to agree, so how about you get off your high horse and come back to the planet mate.

Quite honestly i don't have the time or inclination to scour so called social networking site's, it amazes me how folk have the time to go on t***ter sorry i mean twitter and tell each other what they have just had for lunch or dinner, i have trouble getting on TP quite recently as much as i love the place ;)

Have to say, a week or so into twitter... and I have to say it seems to be a mindless waste of time.

All of "Web 2.0" is utter *****e.

Its the same dot.com hype as afflicted technology stocks the first time around - zero true value, lack of real innovation, just "hype".

Give me access to some missile targetting consoles and I'd wipe the whole damned thing off the planet.

Role on Web 3.0, maybe we can get back to some sense.

two interesting articles. I liked the quote "social networks are a 'proven haven for malicious actors and content'".
