What car do you drive?

Just taken my 1992 VW Corrado G60 off the road as its time for a full rebuild and supercharger upgrade.

So tootling around in the wife's mk4 golf.

why? - mines the biggest heap of sh** I've had the pleasure of owning

Hugh

What have you got?
Just have a thing for them, I had a 1981 ex army 109 that was a beast. Just a slightly cooler factor than the Xtrail.

sadly I have a freelander 2. Can't wait to get rid

That's the problem then. What you need is a proper unreliable old school land rover. Having said that my ex military 110 is now 26 years old. I've had it about ten years now and aside from the normal wear and tear the engine was swapped from a normally aspirated 2.5 diesel to a 200Tdi when the old engine developed terminal piston ring failure at around 100,000 miles and a gearbox rebuild at about 120,000 miles. We're now up to around 200,000 miles with no further major problems but it's going to be time for a new bulkhead soon.

mainly for the practicality - loads of boot and passenger space.
fuel economy isn't great though :(

I think the idea is that green Mustang =

Bullitt%2BMustang%2BSmoke.jpg

Quite: mine is the 2008 Mustang GT 'Bullitt' special edition in Dark Highland Green (as near as dammit British Racing Green, which was the reason I initially chose it - nothing to do with it being a Steve McQueen tribute car) with uprated 4.6 24v V8 engine (350ps as opposed to 315ps on the standard GT) and exhaust - it was supposedly also equipped with upgraded suspension, but actually they just installed slightly shorter springs - which were still rubbish.
Since buying mine I've installed full race-spec suspension package, courtesy of Eibach, Koni, Hotchkis and UMI (cost a measly $2,000 to buy the parts and $600 to ship them over from the US - fitted it all myself in 10 hours.) It now handles like a European sports car instead of a bouncy castle on drugs...

There are no Ford logos except on the engine and it has the upgraded sports interior and seats.

The 2010 Mustang (in white, above) has a much better stock suspension (still a live rear-axle which is nowhere near as bad on this car as some people who've never driven them claim) and for 2011 the fabulous new 5.0l 32v V8 modular engine, pushing out over 450ps in stock trim.

Ok here's my little run around.

It's an ex police Renault 4, it came as standard with the upgraded 1108cc engine with a bigger carb, but still on drum brakes!

It runs on Renault 5 Gordini/Alpine Alloy wheels and is fantastic in the snow, it gets everywhere!

Comparing Ford and GM products is like comparing Nikon and Canon - at the same price-point they'll behave more or less the same...

Fords are better though...:D

Nice car! Shame someone keyed the rear panel though.

Are those the ones with the gearchange like an umbrella handle out the dash? I'm sure my sister had one for a while until she parked it at the top of a hill. Terrible handbrake on it (again pulled out of the dash?)

A '10 Audi A3 TFSi Sportback. Great car - turbo kicks in at around 2k revs and it can really go. Good fuel consumption (haven't calculated mpg yet but i know it lasts long enough between refills) and a really nice drive. Engine is only 1.4 but the standard 1.6 feels very sluggish in comparison.

Nice work - that's the right thing to do.

I think I said before, one of the people at the wedding had the 2009 GT and we swapped stories then cars. He couldn't believe how much better the suspension was, now how much quieter the newer car was.

Me - I liked driving the mustangs, comfy, fun, not particularly sporty, but then I think that about most things generally because the bike makes everything feel slow. Made sense over in the US, wouldn't really in the uk (but I kinda wouldn't mind trying...)

Best car yet! And that includes the Imps and the Davrian!

Through the 80s and 90s I had a faded blue Renault 4 too - like your bonnet, it wasn't just non-reflective; parked under streetlights the whole car disappeared!!

Well after getting rid of an MR2, and went to a womans car (I'm Male)
Nissan Micra 1.5 dCI SE diesel

But at an average of 75MPG and I've had 105MPG on a motorway trip I don't care what anybody thinks about my car. :) :)

Thanks Yves, mines got terrible paintwork, (who said a picture can't lie) My feeling is that if I wanted a car that was perfect then I would go out and spend the money on one. This one is tatty in Ex police condition with bumps grazes fading paint and looks awful, but mechanically and chassis wise it's all sound, but being all tatty means I'm not scared to use it. I regularly use it to drive to Western France and back with no problems at all.

As for the handbrake mentioned previously, yes mine is operated from the dashboard and if adjusted correctly then its great!

Tis Troooo...

I didn't even know it existed as a limited edition til I clicked on that colour swatch on the online ordering page.
"Oooh Highland Green - that'll look nice with yellow-gold GT stripes," I thought...

Cept you can't order it with stripes, fog-lights, spoiler or hood scoop (which is purely cosmetic anyway, as I later discovered)...

Soon as the cash is available it'll be 'de-Bullitted' - the aforementioned GT stripes, GT grille and fogs, and either a Vortech supercharger or a Boss 302 5.0 litre crate engine...

I used to have Clio V6, but now a 1999 BMW 328 love it to bits and it only cost 2.8k!!!

I'd have thought a Met. Green would have been more apt for a Bullit model, but Ford obviously know better

Your's does look as if it need a little "something to break up all that green - the GT stripes should do the job nicely

Dark Highland Green is metallic - it just doesn't show in that photo.

Better in this one:

Which you will...

I had a Smart following me up a hill nearby yesterday - couldn't get past me despite revving it through the redline all the way up...

Even funner when you realise I was walking at the time...

Rear-wheel drive cars are funny in the snow...lol

Oh I don't know. Went out in it yesterday to fetch some coal, and I've been to work in it today, to cover someone who couldn't get in. Didn't have any problems maintaining decent progress given the conditions.

The reason I use it is because it is rear wheel drive, and allows me to have a bit of fun.

Day to day car is the company Mondeo.

Toy car is a Vauxhall VX220 (that is currently in desperate need of a wash).

*want*... I've always fancied owning a Mustang. :D

An old (1996) BMW 525 Touring.. It's like a small van, but with heated leather seats and windows... It has its problems, and has managed 175k, but still starts first time... I don't look at fuel consumption though..

In order to fund other more important things like photo gear for me and shoes and handbags for the OH :D, we don't go fancy or flash!

Been there, done that and wasted a fortune! :gag: :'(

I drive a Y reg Citroen Xantia estate with 83k miles and the OH has a W reg Fiat Punto 16v hatch with 120k miles, we've had the Punt from new and bought the Xantia a couple of years back with 67k on the clock and 1 owner from new, and we do keep them in good order.

Fringe motoring rocks! :)

Last car in South Africa was a 328 Auto, which had about 300,000 kms on it. Started getting expensive to maintain, and I sold it before I left.

Wife has an ageing Honda something. Not sure it's going to make it through the MOT next month, and if there are going to be major costs I think we'll just forget about it. We don't really need a car, and I don't enjoy driving in this country.
