What Camera Gear Would You Buy?

A D3X, 70-200 VR2, 14-24, 105VR

Hasselblad H4D-40, 80, 150, 250 lenses

More Bowens kit

An Audi RS4 avant to lug it around in!

A bigger studio ;)

If money was no object then i'd stick with the gear I have... But i'd jack in my job and buy me the time to go and persue my hobby!

A box of 1 D MKIV's as its the best camera i have used since the MKIIN.
A 200 F2 prime,400 F2.8 prime and Donnington race track. Then would blow loads on making the track more photographer friendly with enclosures for Amateur and Pro togs.

Hi All,

Been some really great suggestions here.

Interesting thing is how many have got almost what they want or are planning on buying it!

Well I better get my list down then.

Nikon of course!

D3X - just got it
D700 - got it
D3S - next year

600 f4 - just bought it
70 - 200 2.8 - got it
24 - 70 2.8 - got it
17 - 35 2.8 - got it
Wimberley gimbal for the 600 f4 - just arrived today
500 2.8 VR - Not sure when but probably when I understand the 600 f4
Replacement macro for full frame but not sure which one.
Fish eye for full frame.
Tilt and shift - looking around at the moment.

Time to use the above is not a problem as I run my own business and make the time when I go away at weekends or arrange days out with photography mates.

Talent to use the above. Hmm now that is another story. Got a very looooong way to go. But am, like all of us going to have fun getting there.

So back to my original reason for asking this question. Are we suffering from kit snobbery or kit envy?

I think we all suffer a bit from envy when we see something we want. But that is not a bad thing, it helps us to strive to get that thing, be it kit which some of us want or the skill in using it. For me I am envious of the ability that others have, but respect their skill and what they went through to get that skill. I am also prepared to get as much info out of them as I can to make me a better photographer.

I know without any doubt that the kit I own does not make me a better photographer only allows me to take pictures however good or bad they might be in conditions that I may not be able to do with my 10 year Fuji compact.

To do the philosophical bit, it is important if you want that camera or lens to plan how you are going to buy it. After all, unless you have this unlimited supply of money it won't just appear on your door step.

Keep the ideas coming I am enjoying this thread.

Best regards

Chris

Sigma 200-500mm F2.8
d3x
hasselblad h4d-60
leica s2-p - maybe
phase one 645df/Mamiya 645DF - (have gone under)

No Cameras, just My Dad back, so he could explain to me all the cameras he bought rather than me searching through the internet to find out about them all. He had so many cameras and I was never "that" into them during his life, but having to sort through all his cameras now has made me so sad.

I really wish I had had more time and enthusiasm for them when he was alive.

I'd geta MF digital camera with lenses for my cars and models

1Dsmk3 with 24-70, 70-200 for pictures of my son and any low light work at events.

D3 x 2
Carl zeiss custom made 16- 70 mm 1.8 , 70-300mm 2.8 and a 800mm 2.8

and a nice new 27 inch Imac !

Everything from Canon and Nikon, DSLRS, Lenses, flashes accessories etc.

And a Range Rover Sport, Discovery 4, Merc CLS 500 to carry it in. :D

LEICA M9 and a few lenses will do me fine :D

I'd swap my D700 for a D3s, and get the following to add to the kit/lenses I already have:

D3x
Every Zeiss prime between 18 and 85mm
New tripod of some variety
Nikon 200-400 VRII
Lee ND grad Hard set
3X 30" Eizo monitors (and monsterous graphics cards to match, as well as a top spec everything else blah blah etc etc)
Canon 17" large format printer
50mm Mamiya lens of some variety
16-35mm F/4
Some 5x4 LF camera of some variety just for the sake of learning how to do it
Stash of film

I suppose money is no object, so I'd also get the 400 and 600mm Nikon primes.

Nikon Coolscan 9000
Epson V750

That's all I can think of atm :D

Over the period of 7 or 8 years I've been slowly trading up, wheeling and dealing and saving my money so that now I'm in the rare position where there's nothing on the shopping list, as I've got everything I want / need.

That said, I wouldn't say no to another Nikon speedlight and a Nikon 14-24 F2.8..........

;)

I'm lucky enough to be able to afford anything I want but I've always been realtively happy with my Canon 20D, that is until I got my GF1. The pictures it takes are so detailed and can take a lot more post capture adjustment before they fall apart and for the first time I'm wondering if one of the later Canon bodies (I have a bag full of lenses so I'm sort of stuck with Canon) can better my trusty 20D.

after yesterday I feel the need for 400mm again, if only Nikon did a 100-400 :(

Realistically...as much as you can be with a question like this...

Nikon FM2a
Nikon F5
Because I'm really starting to like film.

80-200 because I would need an aperture ring.
Plus some other lens with aperture rings.
70-200 VR II (and the other parts of the Nikon trinity of course)
300 f2.8
I'd like a sort of wide angle prime in the 1.4 range, but.

D3s
D3x
D40 as a travel/family camera.

2 SB900's
SB400

Samsung ST60 for P&S

That would probably be perfect for me :D

A lot of Canon users want the 300mm 2.8 IS, I'm thinking of selling mine:thinking:

nothing - too busy sailing the 38' ketch round the Med [with female crew..:exit:

Well, my current shopping list extends to eventually getting..

Nikon D3s
Nikon 24-70 f/2.8
9x Nikon SB-900s
Nikon R1C1 Close-up kit with full complement of 8 SB-R200s
About 3 grand's worth of Elinchrom Ranger RX gear

If money were no object..
2x D3s
1x D3x
2x 5DMk2 (along with a selection of lenses)
1x D300s (need a DX backup body)
Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 DX
Nikon 12-24mm f/4
2x Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8
1x Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR2 (already got a VR1, so that can become the backup) ;)
Nikon 200mm f/2 VR
Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR
Nikon 400mm f/2.8 VR
Nikon 500mm f/4 VR
Nikon 600mm f/4 VR
Nikon 1.4, 1.7 and 2x TCs
A couple of tilt-shift Nikon lenses
A buttload more Elinchrom Ranger RX units

And a full time crew to carry it all around for me. :)

I'm gonna have to go with Canon two %d MkII bodies
All canon L Primes

Now lets jump to a nice Hassleblad H4D system supported by all hassleblad primes from 28mm to the 300mm offering, oh and if I could have the warranty extension as well...you never know when these hi tech cameras will break down!

A studio kitted out with Breise lights and a few Arri lights various wattage
Black Rain double strap, plenty of úber fast CF cards and a wireless transmitter for all bodies!

Top end Power Mac with 3 30" displays
Bose sound system

Do you think its too much to ask for an Audi R8 and a couple of fine assistants?

That should cover it...oh and a few months of to play with all my new toys :)

God where would i start!

Few 1d Mk3/4 (whatever is the newest)
The Full Range of L len's
A Good Ball Head Tripod
Mac Pro and 2 23'' ACD
15'' Macbook Pro
Couple of Flashes
Film Devloping machine
