Hi All,
Been some really great suggestions here.
Interesting thing is how many have got almost what they want or are planning on buying it!
Well I better get my list down then.
Nikon of course!
D3X - just got it
D700 - got it
D3S - next year
600 f4 - just bought it
70 - 200 2.8 - got it
24 - 70 2.8 - got it
17 - 35 2.8 - got it
Wimberley gimbal for the 600 f4 - just arrived today
500 2.8 VR - Not sure when but probably when I understand the 600 f4
Replacement macro for full frame but not sure which one.
Fish eye for full frame.
Tilt and shift - looking around at the moment.
Time to use the above is not a problem as I run my own business and make the time when I go away at weekends or arrange days out with photography mates.
Talent to use the above. Hmm now that is another story. Got a very looooong way to go. But am, like all of us going to have fun getting there.
So back to my original reason for asking this question. Are we suffering from kit snobbery or kit envy?
I think we all suffer a bit from envy when we see something we want. But that is not a bad thing, it helps us to strive to get that thing, be it kit which some of us want or the skill in using it. For me I am envious of the ability that others have, but respect their skill and what they went through to get that skill. I am also prepared to get as much info out of them as I can to make me a better photographer.
I know without any doubt that the kit I own does not make me a better photographer only allows me to take pictures however good or bad they might be in conditions that I may not be able to do with my 10 year Fuji compact.
To do the philosophical bit, it is important if you want that camera or lens to plan how you are going to buy it. After all, unless you have this unlimited supply of money it won't just appear on your door step.
Keep the ideas coming I am enjoying this thread.
Best regards
Chris
