What a scumbag.

A bit sad that you feel the solution to this is "a good kicking". :shake:

without wanting to get into a moral argument with you, i would like to hear your opinion on what is an appropriate punishment for this sort of behaviour, as im afraid that although i can see the moral highground clearly, and know the code for the door, i dont see the point in being up there where even the actions of a suicide bomber can be excused, and im not comfortable as a human being with that. and for the record, i do not discriminate and aspire to the one love philosophy.

someone will have him, his name, his uni, and a picture? maybe someone will decide to sort him out. hopefully!

Wow. Yes, reacting with unproportional violence has always been a great way to teach people. For you kids out there:

befouling a memorial - bad!
assault and vigilantism - good!

:bang:

PS: i'm sorry for being snarky, but I studied law and pub talk like this makes my blood boil.

A fine plus community service with war veterans. That would at least help him understand why people were offended and what the context was.

Kicking his head in would teach nothing.

fair enough, i would agree with this.

I'd love to give the noisy neighbours downstairs a kicking, but then what would that make me? Frankly this guy will probably never live this down and I think that is in itself a fair punishment. When I think of World War veterans I want to think about their bravery and the sacrifices that they and their families made... not failing students ****ing on memorials.

Why is it that some folk can get drunk, but never show aggression or behave like the lout in the picture. Others get a few drinks in them and want to quarrel and fight.

Could it be that the alcohol is simply lowering inhibitions and allowing the true personality to surface.

Maybe. In vino veritas and all that. Booze is a powerful depressant, not a euphoric, and it makes people feel more confident by depressing inhibitions like shyness in the early stages. That's probably one of the reasons why it's so popular, but people respond in different ways as they get more intoxicated. Some get garrulous, over friendly, maudlin and sleepy - in various combinations - and others get confrontational, aggressive and violent. I'm not sure it really does reveal the true personality, it may just show another facet of the person's personality, distorted and twisted by drink. It can certainly result in people doing things they probably wouldn't do when they're sober, without thinking about the consequences. How many guys on here can really say they never tried to feed a girl drinks at a party or whatever, in the hope that she might be more "affectionate"? There's an old saying, that whisky is a good friend and a sore enemy.

I see ripclaw has already answered your question, but I will say this. Every time someone calls for violence as a reaction to wrongdoing we descend further towards the angry mob. That is not justice, it is revenge and serves no purpose other than to make those carrying out that revenge feel better about themselves. I don't know how you equate any of that to the "one love philosophy" as you put it.

What's that got to do with anything?

and thats rubbish!

Care to elaborate or are you agreeing with that particular sweeping generalisation?

Me, never, not once, nor shall I.

Maybe i`m just a miserable git, with a sense of what is right and what is wrong.

What this clown did was wrong, some of you can dress it up however you wish, you may make excuses for his antics and try to justify it.But you can`t.

Quite unnecessary - I think after further reading, he realises the enormity of his faux-pas and is suitably chastened...
I do think a stint of working with the Royal British legion might be better than minefield clearance here in Helmand though...lol

the posts below you got too scary.

Arkady. it fills me with such pride, that you and your comrades are protecting us as you, your arms dealer & your CO see's fit.

I'm a firm believer, and I've said it many times before, that in times like this the only way to settle the argument is to have a dance off.

on one hand we have people saying sharia law is already here
on the other we have people saying that the law just does nothing and that people that pee on a memorial need a good kickin.

they cant both be right

what do you want me to say?

Sharia law IS a fact. end of story.
no mod intervention needed "phew"

I think that if you "Mods" feel advocating secular physical violence is ok then maybe i have joined the wrong forum.

Andrew - wind your neck in NOW or have some more time off. Up to you!

And staff can see all edits made to posts btw :nono:

Have you even read any of my posts in this thread?

Right, I've cleaned the thread.
Andrew was suspended for his insulting post towards the mods, and followed it up with another insulting Contact Us, so it's been upgraded to a permaban.
Rozzy has been suspended for his personal insult.

I've cleaned some posts out of this thread, one which could be seen as an incitement to violence, and the others due to the unpleasant and bickering nature.
If you're going to disagree with someone, do so politely. You can even be tongue in cheek (don't forget the smileys!) and even sarcastic, but don't be insulting.

reading through this thread and my conclusion is delete the thread, it doesnt look good to any new members joining does it:thumbs:

There's a few Daily Mail inspired knee jerk reactions in this thread. Everybody has probably done something they've regretted after drinking.

The correct punishment for the student was for himself to clean the monument, then perhaps some useful community service so he can see the world from the other side. Perhaps working with the street cleaners picking up the litter after a drunken friday night, some work in a Cheshire home or British Legion...

...or just run the gauntlet of an army exercise with soldiers armed with paintball guns :D

That never worked for me. Girls could always handle booze better. By the time they had got "affectionate" I was ready to fall asleep.

I would like to apologise for my intial post in this thread. It was not intended as a wind up, but it was exaggerated.
Whilst I would prefer to see the lout punished quite severely I certainly don't want permanent damage inflicted on him.

spot on

What I find quite interesting is the effect that different drinks have - for instance I like vodka but I never drink it now because it effects me in a very negative way - makes me sad / angry. Guiness on the other hand turns me into a very happy drunk.

I don't drink all that much at all anymore but at least I know what to avoid when I do...
