Following on from the beans thread, where a comment about peanut butter and marmite was (perhaps deliberately) misconstrued as being a combination rather than 2 separate dislikes, I wondered what the resultant sarnie would taste like. Still wondering (well, it's too early for a snack, even for me!) but it set me wondering what weird and wonderful sandwich fillings actually do work for people.

My first 2 both involve marmalade and probably work due to the sharpness of the marmalade cutting through the fat in the other ingredient - sausages (hot) and brie (cold).

Any others?

My weirdest (and most wonderful one), is actually a toasted sandwich. Marmite, melted strong cheddar and a spoonful of those onion crispie things. Heaven in hovis!

A mate of mine once made a corned beef sandwich. He noticed he'd dropped a bit of the filling on the floor. He picked it up, shoved it in his gob only to realize it was a wee bit of dog s***e:D:D. Ha ha!! Mug!!!

About thirty years ago, when I was a lot fitter and slimmer than I am now, I used to have my Wednesday lunchtime roll from a local sandwich shop. The reason why this roll was so huge, was because I used to do midweek evening cycle racing and this was fuel. The roll was about Subway size and filled with: grated cheddar, nut pate, branston pickle, salad and dill pickle - it was awesome:)

My favourite is still a nice soft white bun, some real butter, raw steak tartare, raw egg, but if salt and pepper and some finely chopped raw onions.

My wife thinks it is disgusting and won't come near me for a week. I just love it. A proper man sandwich.

Actually Marmite and peanut butter in one sarnie isn't bad.
Cheese lettuce and peanut butter is better though :)

Marmite and peanut butter is great... but Marmite is also good with honey.

Steve.

Steak flavour deep ridged crisps and mango chutney on tiger bread!! Mmmmmmm.

Not sure if this is weird - Cheddar cheese and Patak's extra hot lime pickle.

Dave

Cheese and Jam best sarni ever. Also made toast with jam and melted cheese on top other day that was nice.

Not tried that, but I think I prefer Branston personally.

strong cheddar cheese with marmite and cress , also Philidelphia cheese with marmalade on thick crusty bread , and sweetcorn rellish with bread and butter.... hungry now

yes i'm with you on that one.. i used to often have jam on toast with melted cheese.. yum

but do you put the jam on before or after you toast the cheese ? (marmite should definitely be before)

both is nice, just have to make sure you don't burn your mouth on the jam.. agree marmite before though

This is my favourite sandwich filling:

Marmite, grated cheese, cheese and oniion crisps, salad cream.

Make some toast smear the jam on then put cheese on and melt under grill [emoji2]

Not really weird. I prefer either their Brinjal pickle (whizzed up in a mini food processor to smooth it out) or Prawn Balichau (although I don't have that now since it took me a few years to get through the last jar!). I find the hot ones too hard on my guts - prefer flavour to burn.

Cheddar and Bovril's better than Marmite IMO.

Marmite or Bovril with cream cheese on crackers is Nice

I also put Marmite in the baking tray for roast potatoes

cold homemade lasagne sliced up with HP sauce.

Heinz spaghetti hoops and grated cheese in a Breville toaster.

Mmmmmm

I don't think this is particularly weird, but everyone else seems to think it's disgusting so I'm going with my comfort food of cod roe spread on cold toast (kind of an open sandwich)
Ooo yeah! I've not had cod roe in years, I used to like that too :)

I'm rather to peanut butter & salad cream sarnies, with cucumber.
