I tend to have a range of packages to try to cover as much of the market as possible.
Nothing wrong as such as the low end of the market, although it has been a bun fight in recent times of people undercutting each other, and the ameturish approach of some at that end of the market, has meant some couples have been left woth awful photographs, if any at all. Too many stories out there of disappointed couples. So I charge higher in the range with guarenteed quality, and let customers decide for themselves, whether it is worth the gamble of going cheap as chips for what is supposed to be a milestone in their own lives, after all.
Others like to play the market, they may like your pics, but want you to price match cheapo charlie down the road. My advice to them always is 'go ahead, make Charlie's day.'
When it comes to quality I am afraid I am awful snob, and some couples simply get the poor quality photography they deserve, by making all kinds of unreasonable demands. Even photographers need to eat. We all have a different approach certainly, but by making your photography too cheap, you not only cheapen your own product, but end up unwittingly funding the couples extravagant holiday/honeymoon as well.
So I have different packages, and have flexibility around those, if I like a couple, I will bend prices to enable a booking, but I don't give it away and nor should anyone else.
