Haha. And you got to roll around with me all sweaty.... SEXY or what.

Thats distinctly not generally a good way to reward your assistants  - though i'm assuming (hoping) that it was in a cage/dojo rather than a duvet :puke:

Its not like harsh words are being exchanged its just opinions being expressed

Just because there's no harsh words being exchanged doesn't mean that it can't be closed. The tone of the thread and the way that it's going way off the original subject are reasons enough

c'mon guys dont make kelly lock it - kiss and make up , or roll arround all sweaty if you prefer

Thank you!!!

This is starting to get ridiculous!

If you want but I'm not sure what the point would be.

Fair play, and respect that you walk it like you talk it , - I wont ask how much (or if he was worth it  )

I would make one more general observation - not aimed at you or tony in particular

a volunteer or intern who is working free is usually covered by the 'employees' liability insurance of the placement owner - however a contractor is usually expected to have their own liability insurance - so if Tog X takes wannabe assistant Y along to a wedding as a subcontractor where do they stand on insurance ? So if the assistant causes an accident and guest later sues the togs insurer may well deny liability, and pass it on to the assistant who might well be uninsured.

This is equally an issue for someone who takes a volunteer/intern on without checking that they have ELI in addition to PLI - except that in the latter case both may wind up collectively liable and without cover

Payment amounts have varied. It has not been big money but enough that they are not out of pocket.

I can only talk for myself in that i have made sure that my insurance covers me for freelancers. This is something that needs to be considered in both cases. Are you sure volunteers would be covered?

To mods , i dont think this thred is a problem. Its a natural evolution of a conversation and the reason we enjoy the forum. I dont think we need to start saying that is a reply is not in direct response to the Ops request the thread needs to be closed. This is simply how conversation works.

What... that how how i pay all my assistants. I get half naked, run around for half hour so i am all sweaty and then dominate them with my superior top position.

Well then it seems people had views about this and wanted to express them but when you come in threatening to shut it down kind of makes me think that we all have to be careful about what we say because the big bad mod might not like it or agree. (im not saying your a bad mod)

How about showing some level of maturity instead?

I think maturity would be to allow the natural progression of conversation without threats to close it. as tony said, there are no harsh words just simple conversation.

I'm saying that opinions are all well and good but it to us was started to get heated. We have experience of these and the way they end up so I was simply giving warning as to keep it civil or have it closed. And who are you calling big ;)

 cant we just have a conversation... that yes has differing opinions without threats of closing threads. I know the mods need there power fix once in a while but this is not the time.

( before anyone gets all offended this was a joke.)

Haha sorry my bad il take the big back ;-)

I am not trying to have a power fix at all. And am slightly offended as to you saying that. From experience, we know how these end up

Ok, just seen your second sentence

I no mate just playing. I dont think this conversation needs to go that way. So long as people dont start getting personal (like some have now) then it can just be a conversation with differing opinions. I actually think sometimes they go down hill becasue of threats to close them and such get peoples back up.

Well then, let it flow. To me it seemed like there were starting to be jibes at Lyn for offering free assistant place. Have you been on the wrong side of a pregnant woman, I have.....it's lucky I'm here to live the tale

I was on the wrong side of my wife almost every day of her pregnancy... funny story, My wife did i wedding show for me last year while she 8 months gone and a photographer came other to me pointed at her bump and i think assuming she was simply a member of staff saif " thats why i would never employ a women" He was lucky to get out alive.

.

Usually yes - volunteers fall into the wider EU definition of worker (but not that of employee) and are therefore usually covered by EPL ( I'd still advise anyone taking on a volunteeer or intern to check with their insurer) - the EU definition also means that volunteers have the same protections as an employee under EU and UK legislation (things like the Health and safety at work act, which gives the employer an obligation to take reasonable steps to provide a safe working environment etc)

The other usual requirement for volunteers (and indeed staff) to be covered under EPLs is that they are adequately trained and/or supervised for the tasks they are doing.

Yes I got that impression too!!!

I stepped backwards and waited for Zoes fury to end.

Well i am sorry if you got that impression from me. My opinion is for the greater good of the industry haha assistants should be paid just as a photographer should be. Hence asking if you would do it for free. This is not to offend you just to give a different opinion on this.

The last person to assist me was a 22 year old blonde girl - my wife would so not have been happy with me trying out that method of payment

(so i went for the right to use pics in a portfolio instead  )

And you got my company... Some people pay simply for that pleasure.
:-S
Im saying nothing as id like to work for you again :naughty: lol
Haha. And you got to roll around with me all sweaty.... SEXY or what.
FFS! will you two get a room please? :p

The "shut it down" comment is usually used when a polite "lets make like a train and get back on track" comment is ignored.
We don't shut threads down for fun but there are boundaries to be played
within.
I like a bit of banter as much as the next person, as long as things don't get personal, and that was the way this thread started heading.
Kelly has asked nicely (as she is the nice one, me however, I have not yet been fed ;))

As above, I would have thought that we are all mature enough NOT
to get the arse once the :lock: threat has been mentioned,
and just play nice.
Otherwise you are going to cut off your collective noses to spite your collective faces ;)

hmmm maybe i need to rethink who i use as an assistant.

On a serious note money payment means i dont have to worry about my images being used. Actually i dont mind Tony using images from my wedding as he is not a stranger.. Yes a contradiction from the post the other day buy Tony is a special case... In many ways.

FFS! will you two get a room please? :p

Dont get jealous. There is enough hairy sweaty men in cages around for everyone.
