I have 2 WD My Cloud drives which are driving me mad, when I try to open the My Cloud app it says it needs to be updated but when I try to update it says I need to update from within the My Cloud app qhich of course I can't do. According to the WD website the drives i have can be updated to the new OS but before I do that I have to check the firmware but I cant do that until I can access the drive :runaway:

Has anybody else descended this rabbit hole and successfully come out the other side?

All help much appreciated.
 
When they advised late last year that My Cloud could no longer be updated after April 2022, there were two choices a. Buy the latest model or b. ensure your My Cloud is not directly connected the the Internet and change the password. So I did the latter and I can continue to used this NAS for my main backup. If you had not registered your product, you would not have received the warnings.

When I got that message about my WDMYCLOUD I stripped it apart took the hdd out and put it in a synology….
