WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Our house insurance has just renewed via our Lloyds platinum account.
£80 cheaper than last year. Result.

Mine just went up a little, probably paying for other people's claims after the recent gust of wind. Some home circumstances have changed as well. Compare the Market came back with some alternatives, but it was companies I wasn't familiar with and I really couldn't be bothered filling out lots of forms again for a small saving.

It does get a little annoying when I don't claim on my car or home insurance, yet the buggers try and stiff me for more.

I've transfered all my music from my iMac to my iPad so I can listen to it when we go on holiday..especially during flights. I had to get a short Apple cable with the 3.5mm jack-socket on one end and a USB-C connector at the other to fit my iPad...£8.50. Next job was to research over-ear wired headphones. I wanted a decent pair so I initially looked at Sennheiser and Bose but names I'd never heard of were listed in reviews such as. "Top five over-ear headphones 2025". "2025 Top ten " "Best Over Ear headphones One Stand-Out Winner." .etc..It was bewildering. Two days ago I'd been looking at the Bose QuietComfort SC wired ,Noise Cancellation headphones at £319.

This morning, I just happen to mention to my wife about them and unbeknown to me she Googled them to look at reviews then came to me with her iPad and told me that they were on offer in the Bose Spring sale at £189. Even the model replacing them ..the QuietComfort Ultra (wireless, though) is on offerr -22% off at £349 from £449. I'd read quite a few reviews on the QuietComfort SC wired..but this one impressed me . I bought them earlier through Amazon. I've posted this in case anyone is also wanting a set of similar headphones.

Been wanting a pair of these for ages (a mate bought some a few years back and swears by their NC efficiency!) so have bitten the bullet and ordered a pair.

WCMUS (Saturday)

Finally adopting this lovely boy from CWRS. He has been through the mill having broken his leg mid December and has had a further operation to remove the 12 screws and 2 plates causing him severe pain. He is unbelievably good natured and purrs a lot!20250312_143017.jpg

What a beautiful cat, is he a Bengal

New record deck and streaming device installed…. Haven’t had a deck in over 5 years, the amp & speakers got a good workout yesterday

Yes he is. Only 2 years old, so a bit manic!

It took a year to be ready for a new cat after the loss of Benji and I knew that I wanted another Bengal as they are so different from any other cats I have known.

We're still not ready and the recent loss of a friend's cat has reminded us of the heartbreak involved.

*Reminder to self - buy shares in Elastoplast - there's another Bengal around!*

He's a beauty!!!

I suffered the loss of my Tabby cat Whiskas 4 months ago, he'd reach the ripe old age of 18.5, and for the first time in nearly 50 years I am cat-less.... I keep hearing noises in the house, the same noises that would happen when he was up to no good in the kitchen, so I'm wondering if his spirit has come back to annoy me...

So sorry for your loss, it's so hard when they have been a part of your life for so long. I have previously managed the loss by saying to myself that my cat had to go to make room for another rescue needing a home, but Benji left such a hole that didn't work, and when I was ready I knew I definitely wanted another Bengal

My boy Benji was 18 1/2 too, I got him aged 5 1/2 and I was his 4th home. I get very angry with the stupid people who buy Bengals without doing any research into the breed ... but without them I wouldn't have had either of mine! Both Cats Protection and CWRS questioned me in detail about what I knew about Bengals ... more like if I knew what I was letting myself in for!

Never had a Bengal but do know some of their reputation!

Our much missed ginger queen also came with a broken and pinned leg - but to Mum and Dad and then to us when Dad died. Not 100% sure how old she was but guessing at around 13/14 when she had to be put down due to multiple tumours on her diaphragm. Only a small creature but left a massive hole!

ETA. Enjoy him!!!

The Bose headphones arrived this morning. They're fantastic. We've got a real bargain. The sound is superb and they are very, very comfortable. They feel like top quality headphones, too. They are so good, infact, that I immediately bought a pair for my wife before the offer closes. I'll post in WAMT about that..Lol.

Mine arrived this afternoon - 2 hours BEFORE the time they were expected. Luckily, I was at home since they needed a PIN. NC seems to be very efficient - have to see how they cope on the plane. As you say, very comfortable and the sound is very good. They even fit over my hearing aids!

Ice cream at the seaside! The ice cream/coffee hut at the Eastern end of Budleigh Salterton's sea front has reopened so we popped along after lunch at Otterton Mill. Chuffin' chilly but delicious - and the seagulls stayed away!

I have often wondered where these gentlemen were taking their door. Perhaps it's now part of the hut -

I was feeling a bit down today as I was yet again stuck at home, until I saw the superb selection of yachting images by Blue439. They have cheered me up no end.

I've been making all our bread since October, and although it's been ok, making a loaf that is good for 3 days or more has eluded me until this week. I made a loaf Tuesday with a pre-scald to rye flour, 95% hydration and a rapid fermentation, and it's stayed soft and moist right until now when I've just eaten the last crust. There's more development to be done, but this feels like the right direction.

Once cooled, I keep my bread in an air tight container and it lasts 5-6 days.

WCMUT was 2 slightly different helmet visor things. #1, I've fitted a "universal" pinlock-a-like adhesive anti mist thingy - which works very well and (at 16 quid) didn't break the bank! Being an open face, there is no "real" pinlock insert available for it (and they're rather less affordable too.) #2, the rain dispersant spray I got at the same time works very well at what it's supposed to do.

I put two news tyres on my mountain bike, the tubes are Slime filled ones. Puncture resistant ones.
When I took the tubes out they were both ‘punctured’!
The Slime had worked so very well. I must have had the punctures for quite some time because the Slime had gone everywhere.

I gave up with puncture gloops (tried 'em all) after having lots of punctures and having to deal with the mess afterwards. :headbang:

Now I use Kevlar lined tyres - they work a treat. (y)

That’s what I’m thinking of doing.

The door on our microwave has been very difficult to close lately. Easy to open with the push-button but needs some pressure to close it...quite a lot. So..this morning I Goggled to see why it would be like this. Here are some answers and suggestions.

"Locate and remove the door latch assembly. It will be found behind the inner door panel. Visually inspect your door latch assembly for any signs of cracking, wear, damage, or discoloration. If you find any of the above while inspecting it, you will need a replacement door latch assembly"

"If your microwave door is difficult to close, won’t close or the latch isn’t engaging, it is most likely a problem with the door latch assembly. In most microwaves, the door will have a latch or two that enters an alcove on the cabinet and activates a switch. Once this switch is met with the door hook, it will allow the microwave to receive power. Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems that can occur here"

"The first issue is that the door hooks and the springs that attach to them do not have enough tension. This means that the hooks will not actually meet the switch in order to activate it. Next, there is always the possibility that the switch itself has gone bad. This means your door may actually latch, but the switch prevents anything from happening"You should start by testing the switches to see if they are at fault. This can be done by unplugging your microwave and remove either the outer cabinet or back panel depending on your model of microwave. The switch is attached to the edge of the cabinet. You do not need to discharge the capacitors to test it, but you will want to be very careful around the appliance if they are still loaded with stored elect
ricity. If you test the switch with a multimeter and it checks out, it is then time to go to the actual latch. You will need to remove the inner panel of the door where the door latch is held on by plastic tang.....

A thought came to me. Grease the latches and the recess slots they engage with. I have WD40 but that really smells and would affect the food. I have a tin of very thick grease I use on the car door/boot hinges etc but I also have vaseline which I put on the car battery terminals so I used that. Problem solved, it's like new....:D

Got a call from the taxi service we used to take us to and pick us up from Birmingham airport re our recent holiday to say the boss is refunding the £10 fraudulantly-charged by the driver plus a £10 good-will gesture and an apolgy. I have mentioned this episode on here in WAMT at the time. Included in the charge for both journeys is the £6 the driver has to pay to park at a designated area very close to the terminal but the driver was going to drop us off at the car park..quite a walk from the terminal. On the previous trip the driver did drop us off at the terminal area. Had we not insisted on being taken to the terminal, as the previous driver had, this driver would have pocketed the £6.

The return flight should have landed at 2100. It landed 15 minutes late. The driver texted my wife at 2133 to say he would arrive at the pick-up point at 2100. That's not a typo. re the time. That text came two minutes after a text from the company to say the taxi had actually arrived. The office can track the vehicles. The driver's text was in anticipation of him charging us £10 extra for having to wait from 2100 which he did when we arrived home. He either forgot the time would show on the text or thought my wife wouldn't notice which she didn't until the next day because we arrived home at 2330. The receptionist said it was ridiculous to go by the landing time as passengers have to go through passport control and luggage claim. She said that the drivers allow, at least, 45 minutes after a flight lands and track the planes as they depart or are en-route and arrival times anyway as they have the flight number. I told the driver he could have tracked the plane..Planefinder or Flightradar 24. He said he didn't know about them. I told him that he could have Googled arrival times at Birmingham or even departure from Tenerife. The receptionist agreed the driver's actions amounted to fraud.

She said the boss had called the driver into the office and read him his fortune . I think I would have sacked him. I don't doubt we weren't the first he'd done that to, including the £6 drop-off charge. She said hoped we would use them again and we must tell whoever books it for us not to have that driver.

Me and Mrs WW went for medicals the other day and my results came today on the NHS ap. All is well but the main thing that pleased me is that I'm "Normal." Mrs WW can't believe it :D But I have it in writing. From a medical professional. I'm Normal :D

Beware, this tactic can backfire, as it did with me. I claimed it as evidence, as you did. The next blood test found something 'Abnormal', which she turned back on me. :D

Sometimes we have to take things day to day and if we're ok realise how lucky we are. As I said to someone going through health issues this morning, and he agreed... "At least things aren't worse." :D

Any day I wake up and think "Oh, good!" is a bonus!

I always used to greet my Grandfather with "How's life?" and his usual response was "Better than the alternative." As long as that's the case, enjoy!

Pleased to say the 'abnormal' is now back to ',normal'. An infection had weakened my immune system but its back fighting fit now.

First Thing.
Today I installed one of those doorbell cameras and some smart bulbs. There were only a couple of gripes for me. The doorbell wont give an audible alarm when someone approaches the door if it's in live view mode and although the bulbs can be grouped together so for example you can turn all the lights on/off in one room together you can't set an on/off "schedule" as a group and can only program each bulb schedule individually. Online it says that you can but in reality there's no "schedule" option in the group set up and it's only there for individual light set up. I did update the firmware but the option still isn't there.

Despite the little gripes I can recommend the doorbell and the smart bulbs and I was pleased to be able to set it all up myself without Mrs WW as she normally does anything phone related as I usually have no interest :D Oh, another gripe is that the doorbell mounting plate has no adjustment and can only be mounted flat to a surface and I'd really like to angle it slightly. I might have to get a bracket or wedge of wood or something or create an angled surface with filler if I can't live with it as it is.

Second thing.
This was actually yesterday :D I watched a vid on youtube of climbers and soldiers competing in various competitions and one that they did was an exercise they called "planking." It's a sort of press up position with your elbows on the ground. I thought it looked easy so I gave it a go. The climber lasted about 90 seconds and the soldier gave up after 2 minutes and I easily outlasted them both :D I was very happy to have beaten those two who looked like they were in their early twenties :D I've done press ups as a part of my keep fit regime since I was a teenager but I'd never done this planking before. Mrs WW didn't last long as she doesn't do press ups.

Not to pee on your parade but was your planking proper? I do this at the gym and I always have my bum too high (which is a lot easier). Moving planks are interesting and hard work!

I just did what they did on TV. I can only think that I did well because I've been doing press ups longer than they've been alive. I'm under no illusions, there were only two exercises I think I could have competed in without embarrassing myself and the rest, they'd have embarrassed me.
