WCMUT....what cheered me up today

a sticking diverter valve(y)

They are a pain, had 3 replaced on our old boiler, a very bad design, with a bolt through the middle of the diaphragm, which wore through it when it moved.

Just before our boiler failed last year and we got it replaced, the DV was playing up again. Run a bath and every radiator in the house would get hot.

Boilers, gotta love 'em.

Just 2 on my conventional boiler.
I guess you have a combi boiler?

Yup, combi here.
I prefer conventional, if it goes tits up, I can still heat water via the immersion tank,
and I have an electric fire as back up Justin case

I considered selling all my kit and going for the new Nikon with the 24-70. I was poised writing here for advice and opinion and thought through what the answers would be.

1. What will the new Nikon do better than the old S5?
2. Do you really need to change everything?
3. You do understand that the 24-70 kit lens is not 2.8 like the one you are considering for the S5?
4. You really have a bucket of cash to spend on GAS?

I just want to take the time to thank you for talking me out of it even before I asked the question. Great advice as always chaps.

Not so much cheered me up as amused me.

I got an email today telling me my iphone was running out of storage and I should click on the link to find out what I needed to do.

It was signed

The scammer couldn't know I don't have an iphone but at least they could spell Apple correctly; its not exactly an uncommon word in the tech world.

Fixing my slow filling cistern without having to use a plumber.

£16.49 for a new fill valve and 10 minutes of my lunch hour.

Replacing the H7 dipped beams on my car with Osram Nightbreaker silver bulbs. It seems that my night sight is not as bad as I thought!!! The old bulbs were 11 years old!

I just changed my phone to a Samsung S23. I was with o2.
Shopping around I went over to iMobile ( Currys).

I will leave this open a while to see if anybody wants to guess what I saved. Phone and airtime package over the 24 month contract.

Update £700.

I have posted many times on the fact that I believed that EDF was ripping me off to the tune of £233 / month for dual fuel,
and at years end apparently I break even.
Thieving bastids!

I switch to Octopus, at the beginning of August £166 / month.
so 2 months later and my latest update tells me I'm £140 in credit (y)
I'll just carry that through for a couple or so months, in case it does turn cold.

WCMUT was seeing a Ferrari 512bb on the road. Never a common sight down here, even when they were a current model!

Never good with Ferrari model numbers, but looking it up it's the Berlinetta, but I never realised it was a 12 cylinder Boxer, always thought it was a V12.... Thanks for allowing me to learn something today. I had a relative who had a 308 GTS (of Magnum PI fame) but he didn't keep it very long as the carbs were always going out of tune and it just drank even more fuel when that happened!! Lovely car though...

Yup, 5 litre Boxer 12 Berlinetta. One of 2 models of Ferrari I'd have, the other being a Daytona (GT[BorS]/4). Lots of other cars I'd rather have though!

A share certificate in my name arrived in the post today, last wee detail that was holding up settling up my late mothers estate, now maybe the lawyer will pull the digit out and complete, over 12 months since my maw passed away and I had to intervene last month and get the necessary forms from the company and pass them to the law firm, wonder if I’ll get a discount on the bill for me helping with the work?

More likely a surcharge for interfering :D

One my other hobbies is amateur radio. Yesterday I sold one of my unused cameras and put the funds into a new antenna system for the back yard. When I ordered it, I knew that the company had just started a 2 week close down as it's a family run business and they were going on holiday yesterday.

Imagine my surprise when I get an email telling me my order has been shipped and will be with me on Tuesday. I replied to the email with gratitude and they kindly responded with "No problem, I had an hour or two before we left this morning so organised the shipping to save you the wait."

I love great customer service.....

I find that our Amateur Radio retailers are a really good bunch.

Years ago I was ordering a new antenna from W&S and also was looking at an Icom 706MkIIG, it was dearer than Martin Lynch, so on spec I asked them if they would price match it, as it was £100 cheaper at Lynch, I thought they would say no, but he said I've got to ask Jeff Waters can you hang on, so I did and he said yes, I couldn't believe it, and it also got me free delivery on my antenna as it was on the same order as the rig.

I went to W&S/Nevada for my new rig, an FT-DX10. MLS & Moonraker were offering a desk mic, so I asked if they could throw one in and they did. Don't ask, don't get!! I used to work for Lynchy, (SMC & Lowe's too). Martin was always big on customer service, not sure what it's like now that he's not involved day to day I'm not sure. This new antenna was from Callum @ DX Commander.

Well that was the first thread I unsubscribed from - I wondered if it was the same person.
There was only one cantankerous old fart posts currently.

WCMUT?

My BT internet went down recently, I did the help text thing and they said Friday, Last Friday, that would have been 4 days.
I wasn't happy with that,
I went on to the BT site and it seems there was an issue with their system, and they were working on it and it'll be fixed, over night, by the following morning.

Sure enough, it was back up and running.
I've just received and email, saying that as they didn't fix it in 4 days, ( it was fixed in a few hours)
They are crediting me half my fees :woot:

I got a 30% off voucher for Vision Express, through the Blue Light Card, was sceptical if they would honour it. Went for my eye test today and my glasses should have been over £500 for varifocals & a pair of reading glasses, after they processed the order, I got £175 discounted, 30% off my main pair and my reading glasses half price. Definitely worth the £2.50 a year for the card.

Ooooh, I had my eye test a few weeks back and do need to get the prescription filled................but forgot to check if they would give a Blue Light Card discount (retired NHS worker from some years back) so thanks for the timely reminder :D

Agh ! just noted the voucher via the website....will have to login and check to see what the offer & terms are?

Found out today I can no longer enjoy ‘Have I got news for you’, always used to enjoy it. I don’t care what political team - they are all self serving gits and I dislike them all.

And that cheered you up? ;)

Thought so!

Then again, HIGNFY is a bit past its sell by date now!

Earlier this year we had a power cut overnight which took out the internet connection. Within two days BT had sent a 4G dongle so we could get online which we used until they had their system up and running again. On the very rare(as in about twice in years and years) occasions the speed has dropped I've contacted them and remotely they have reset the router within minutes. They are not the cheapest but the service has been excellent.

They pi55ed me off yesterday....

Over a year ago they put in the infrastructure locally for full fibre, but every time I've enquired I've been told "your area is not planned". So yesterday I receive an email from Openreach, tittled "We said we'd keep you informed". There's me thinking that they have plans for our little cul-de-sac, only to be told "your area is not planned", then go on to underline all the positives of full fibre!!

I know the bloody positives, that's why I want it, and I don't need it rubbing in my face....

Well it sounds like they may have improved over the last year or so but I don't think I'll take the chance anytime soon.
I have been with them at various points since the mid 90's and I have always left them due to their poor customer services, where they always put the lack of service down to the customers fault to such an extent a few years ago even when I new what the problem was they blamed my internal wiring, over a period of about 6 months I had one and sometime two engineers visits a month which I was told I would have to pay for if they found that the fault was my internal wiring, needless to say I never once paid for their visits as the problem was not with my wiring but as confirmed by a number of the engineers what I suspected that and periods of poor personal connectivity throughout the period have made me look else where. I have been lured back from time to time but have always left again within a few years and don't see me returning anytime soon.
