WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I have had shall we say an "interesting" relationship with the police in my time, but this just made me chuckle on a really s*** day, fair play Mr&Mrs plod.
Hmmm. That makes sense of some of my daughter's stories - especially when she and her husband found themselves on the same job... :naughty:

It also cheered me up when I read the Daily Mail outrage at this, especially the comments section where a Dr Ovaltine von Fokke Wolf@ gsexpanzer was voicing his opinions, I love the idea of the Daily Mail readers being trolled without them realising it!

Proper rain in probably over 6 weeks, slow and steady,
But I'm just catching the edge of it, no storms or heavy rain, that's to the East and SE of me.

New paddleboard arrived :) Doesn't matter that it's raining today as I'm too busy to go out on it anyway until tomorrow :)

Yes. I saw that the SE was to get a really good downpour with the second area of heavy rain coming over from France. We just missed the first lot coming up from the SW. It was a line from SW Cornwall, North Devon, through Herefordshire to the Wash. Nothing south of it. A lot more is still needed and it's not lookin g good as a High pressure is building in from the SW. I don't think the forecasters should be smiling and telling us that 'tomorrow' is going to be another fine and sunny day... :)

After a heavy but very brief shower a few days we had some really good rain today. It was raining when I got up at 5am and lasted(with a bit of thunder and lightning) until about midday.

The pond which looked like this -

about 10 days ago now looks like this -

The garden has had a good soaking and the water butts are full too.

It stopped raining here a few hours ago, at least I won't need to top the pond up and water the bonsai's today.
The radar map that I looked at, is actually showing no rain heading this way, certainly for the foreseeable.

Now this really did cheer me up. I've been doing jobs for my neighbour who, last February, was given two months to live..cancer. He's still going but very, very thin and on Chemo. I used to do their back lawn but his son-in-law does it now so I clean the car, the PVC on the front windows and brush up front drive leaves etc. Yesterday, I took him to collect his car after it had been MOT'd and serviced. A short while I ago I stopped for a coffee in the summer house and my wife came to me with five 200gm boxes of assorted Lindt-Lindor milk chocolate truffles in a 'sleeve' packing... Five ? :) They were from my neighbour.

Good karma all round:)

Just make sure to make them last ;)

Make them last ? Now that will be difficult so I'll ask my wife to hide them..lol

I had another bit of good karma on Monday evening . I did mention it on here in WAMT. I saw my other neighbour's garden waste bag on his drive that his daughter would take to her house, after a visit, to empty into her green wheelie bin for Wednesday's green bin collection so I had room in mine and shoved it in, literally.. I had to push it down to get it all in. A lot of palm fronds mixed in. Overnight, a kid pushed the bin over into the road but because it was jam-packed very little came out. Funny old life, isn't it :)

Our gas supplier sent me an email saying we were paying too much and they're lowering the direct debit.

How long's that going to last? :D

About a month they're just trying to soften the blow that comes tomorrow.

I'm just amazed they bothered but I suppose it could be an automatic process with the system just running the numbers and reducing or increasing charges automatically.

Our gas/electricity is now capped at £3549....from £1900 so my wife tells me.They (Octopus) want a meter reading so we'll see. We're £200 in credit.

Retiring or rewiring ? :D

Seeing a picture of my four year old grandson's face when he saw the size of the cruise ship that he was going round Norway on next week! Priceless!

Cutting the grass, which is no mean feat here as our back garden is enourmous. Cutting the grass didin't cheer me up but finishing it did, especially as it's not been done for a while as I've not been 100%. Then a soak in the bath, with the jacuzzi running and whilst the bath probably cost £4 million to run in energy, I enjoyed it, in fact, it was epic. Now for some beer, the first time in almost 2 weeks, now I am cheered all up.

What a saga....On Friday I had to speak to customer-care dept of a well known company. The lady who I spoke to, who was in Kingston-upon-Thames, was very helpful ..I think...lol.. but I could barely understand her but she sounded so pleasant and empathetic to my problem that I didn't have the heart to say I was having difficulty understanding her, which, btw..I just had to do some years ago with a customer-care Asian lady who worked for MoreThan insurance. They must have had a lot of complaints so they eventually brought all calls into their UK centres having out-sourced them to India. Re this call on Friday, I wondered if I was dealing with a scam centre that had cloned the phone number and asked her where she was speaking from and she said "Kingston" and I knew they had offices there when I looked up their phone number so it was ok.

Anyway, as much as she tried she was unable to help me and asked me where I lived. Gloucester.... and I told her the nearest retail outlet was in the Midlands. That's ok,. she said, I'll transfer you to our concierge service in Newcastle .I assumed Newcastle-upon-Tyne as opposed to Under-Lyme. Brilliant, I thought. A sigh of relief. My relief was short-lived. The lady who answered had such a heavy Geordie accent I had as much,if not more difficult understanding her. :D She was also really nice to speak to .The upshot was I was sent the wrong product. So I called yesterday and spoke to a lady who didn't have an identifiable accent but she had trouble understanding what product I'd been sent. What I wanted was a Chanel product for my wife. I bought it for her last Christmas and it's just run out. The lady asked me exactly what the product was. I read from the label which was in French. I'm not good at prouncing the french language. It's 'Sublimage L' Eau de Démaqquiilage ."Is that a wine ?" she asked.
"No.It's a Chanel skin product for ladies. "Ok.. so what you're saying is that you've been sent the wrong product ? " "Yes" I was actually sent a tube of the same stuff but it was gel > oil instead of a 150ml bottle of it. Same price, though, amazingly.

She said someone would call me back which they did within the hour. He was excellent. Laughed at my travails with the language issue..said he'd lived in Newcastle a while and had got used to Geordie but had difficulty at first. I didn't have to explain anything to him about the product as he said straight off that he could see, from my order, what had happened. I'm now being sent the correct product and he said he'd throw in a few more cosmetic items as a good will gesture. I have to send the product I received back to them as it's expensive.

All's well that ends well, as they say but I did see the funny side of it all.

I hope he truly understood what the issue was and you get the correct product ;)

PS and also he supplied you with a prepaid label to return the mis-sent item!

He said, without prompting from me, that he'd refund the postage.I expect they'll refund it to my card.

The other thing that struck me was the Asian lady in Kingston used the term 'concierge' when she said she'd transfer me to the Newcastle office. HQ, I think. It's just a posh name for a customer- care person. Sort of like bin men (I've never seen a female doing that job) being called 'Refuse collection officers' :D

I was proud of Mrs WW this morning, She's starting driving lessons soon and I'm hoping they go well and they should as she's from a country that drives on the RHS (she's an immigrant to the UK.) If she passes she says that she will have achieved all her goals in the UK and this made me think how much she has achieved. She's passed every exam she's required to pass for the immigration process including the IMO awful and ridiculous "Life in the UK" and I've lost count of the number of English and maths qualifications she's attained in the UK and she's helped out at a college and qualified as a translator and has done her first paid jobs. I might buy her an extra special little birthday prezzie.

WCMUT?

Making some recovery from the chest infection that has put out of action for the last 3 weeks...... I lost 5kg in 2 weeks at one point, but I'm back on the computer today for the first time in about 3 weeks. Still not 100%, but getting there, albeit slowly.

I hope you GWS........but don't push yourself too hard too soon.

We were going somewhere and got lost so we ended up in Whitby and had fish and chips. It seemed the best way to cope with this stressful situation :D

Walking in the rain earlier, got caught out in an unforecast shower, it was lovely
Strange things was though I was less then a mile from home and when I got back everything was still dry
except me

My dad once told me he was walking home one day and it started to rain and he noticed it wasn't raining on the other side of the road so he crossed over. I suppose it has to start and stop somewhere :D

My experience of that is that exercise is important - I don’t mean anything extreme, just walking etc.

When I was 81 I had pneumonia and hospitalised for only 3 days or so but came crippled, barely able to walk, couldn’t breathe, and thought I was done for but pushed myself to get back to walking again and was soon back to normal.

Richard, my wife, on her days off, takes me places and makes me walk.... I have to stop every now & then for a breather, but she's adamant that I "get moving". Just walking across the car park at the doctors was knackering me, but I made it this morning without issue....

Sounds like she, and you, have the right idea, keep at it!
