WCMUT....what cheered me up today

One of the Edinburgh rugby players, WP Nell runs a Mail order business doing various SA delicacies like that, unfortunately the business name escapes me, good stuff though.
 
First trip to the lakes since early May, gentle stroll around Buttermere, lovely walking weather a balmy 18°C hardly a breath of wind and not too many people.
 
A BIG Yorkshire pudding dinner with mash and roasties and vegi and thick gravy I might mend some old boots with tomorrow.

Left overs will be used for sausage, mash and gravy, baked potato skins and teriyaki potato cakes.

Yum Yum :D
 
That's what gets hidden in the fridge before I can get at it!

OK. Not reeeeeaaaalllly left overs as I deliberately make too much so we can have different meals the next day :D

We waste very little, only the potato eyes and a couple of bad bits I cut off went into the compost bin.
 
For a number of reasons I haven't been able to do my (almost) daily exercises for weeks but tonight I did and as they're good for my poor aching back and general fitness, I'm happy :D
 
Our new hedgehog house came. It's assembled and in place and we're hoping someone moves in very soon :D

I lined the inside with shredded paper :D

Despite the attempts of one despicable neighbour today (see WAMT) my neighbour has received a good offer on his house :)

Looks like my togging buddy is moving away :(

Depending on the type of paper, generally its no ideal.
Hay, straw, or even better DRIED leaves, as that is what they build their own nests out of.

Ah. Straw was the first thing I though of but we can't think of anywhere to get any. There used to be a farm at the end of the road but it's gone now. Will look for dried leaves.

Pet shops sell it, but it's expensive buying small "bales"
Amazon no doubt sell it too.
But dried leaves are free (y)

We walked on "The Lines" today and we collected a bag of dry leaves which are now installed in our hedgehog house :D

The Lines is an ex railway line lined with tress and bushes and today we met an older couple walking a dog. They headed off and we carried on with bagging the leaves. Later we met them coming back just under an underpass. The lady explained that they were a bit lost and had never been this far, they were heading for the retail park and wanted to know the way. I told them there was no need to head back as there are steps up to the road level (I pointed) and if they went up them they'd be on the right side of the road for their destination, Currys. We watched as the dog turned and headed up the steps with his mam and dad following :D Mrs WW was the first to speak "How did he know where to go?" She asked. Well, either he had a very good grasp of English and understood what I'd said or he saw me point and spotted his owners body language :D

Do dogs understand pointing? I'm sure they do. Years ago I used to walk my then GF's dog on a nature trail and depending on what mood I was in we'd take different paths. He'd run ahead and when he came to a junction he'd look at me and I'd point the way and that's the way he'd go :D

They certainly do. This is something I've encouraged my dog to do from a young age - as well as verbal and whistle commands he understands hand signals. From a distance I can get him to walk to me, stop, go left, go right or go back. He's smarter than most humans IMO. ;)
 
Our dog seems to understand pointing. He also knows if I say, "This Way", when we are our walking he has to stop going down the path he is on and go on another one.

You may not need a huge amount of straw.......so I suggest garden centres that sell pet (rabbit & guinea pigs) bedding and/or Pets Corner pet stores.

Following on from Alan's query about dogs understanding pointing.

Does anyone's dog appear to be self aware? With our dog anything that looks even slightly animal like on TV gets barked at(including cartoon animals) but he doesn't challenge his own reflection in a mirror. A mirror would seem to give a view similar to a TV, ie an image with moving and still elements, but somehow he seems to know the moving reflection of himself is not another dog.

Not sure if it's self awareness or just the animal concerned (our cat was the same when she "grew up"!) or just an acceptance of the interloper who lives behind there not being a threat.
 
We have both had our Covid-19 booster jabs, my arm aches a bit but otherwise no other symptoms so far. Flu jabs scheduled for next week.

Oh, I have another thing made me laugh...

I had to be up and out early today so Mrs WW was left for the first time to get her own breakfast. When I got home she said "You'll never guess what I had for breakfast..." I waited with baited breath... "Sea salt and cracked black pepper crisps. I opened the fridge and looked inside and I saw them so I ate them."

"Did you eat them all?" I said. "Yes" she answered :D

For some reason she never finishes a bag of crisps, she always leaves a couple and hands the bag to me, I suppose so she can say she didn't eat them all :D But this time she did :D Crisps for breakfast... Luxury :D
 
my other half getting me Chester zoo membership for my birthday we haven’t been for 3 years :)
