WCMUT....what cheered me up today

One of our favourite tavernas in Crete has a very poor review on TripAdvisor
I can't remember the name of it, but we ate at the same taverna most nights, in Crete, that also had around 90% Greeks, as customers.
We ate local dishes every night, without really knowing what we were about to get.
One we were advised not to though, it was a traditional local dish, something about stewed cabbage and onions.
And that was all it consisted of. Yep that was a "pass" :D
The local "Lamb" stew I recall, being rather excellent, and I'd put money on the fact it was goat ..

Nothing wrong with goat......though I have only had it a few times in my life.

Goat is a fairly distinctive taste - even against mutton. The thing that puts some people off goat stew is the name in Greek - sounds like "cat sickie stifado"! I prefer it stewed to grilled. Not that keen on the whole head but I've only seen that in butchers, not on any menus!!!

Hungry now.

It was very well seasoned, very very tender, and certainly didn't look like any lamb or sheep that I'd ever seen in a stew ;)

To be fair, the sheep over there look more like goats than the sheep we're familiar with over here (in the fields!)

Had a plate of lamb chops and it must have been at least 10 ribs as well as a few strips of other bits. Definitely not goat.

Given that they must often be old milk goats that sounds likely.

Un-British that — pigs head is our thing, which I’ve had served here relatively recently, not in a restaurant though.

And trotters, I've not had pigs brawn in many years ..
I get trotters fairly regularly from Morrisons supermarket, they are nearly always what I call “condemned”, ie reduced to clear, so I guess they are slow sellers but good on Morrisons for keeping on trying. A lot of the used-to-be-cheap cuts are more expensive than ‘prime’ these days due to small sales and sometimes TV — pork belly for example.

That is a very tolerant and nicely behaved dog, and it does make me smile for hopefully the right reasons as I did not see what was happening as teasing but playful on the part of the owners :)

One of our favourite tavernas in Crete has a very poor review on TripAdvisor - basically they were complaining that the place was full of Greek people... As above, that's always a GOOD sign when the customers are locals (in our case) or those from the same country as the cuisine.
When we visited Lake Garda a few years back, we were looking for somewhere for lunch when I noticed one of the ferries tying up at the dock; all the crew came ashore and headed for a restaurant nearby so we followed. It was full of 'natives' the atmosphere was great, with excellent food at reasonable prices........

It's (allegedly!) good for you!

Cider is one of your 5-a-day!

Maybe snakebite and black is 3? Apples, grains and blackcurrants!!!

That's a Black Mamba ... cider, pils and blackcurrant cordial ... evil!!!!

... was left in charge of a narrowboat after lunch many years ago, not a good move!

After years of use/abuse I managed to badly blunt the blade on my telescopic tree lopper..... so I emailed Spear & Jackson to see if I could buy a replacement blade; they sent me one free of charge the next day. Well done Spear & Jackson, great customer service.

Tried a supercharged one many years ago - 1080 cider, Special Brew and Kir. The head curdled so I named it a Brain Haemorrhage. Talk about mind f***!!!

WCMUT was discovering Cardamom pastries at an "artisan bakery" on the quay. So good I had to buy a second one since the half I was going to save for Mrs Nod vanished before I could stop myself!!! The second one made it to her unmolested and the bit she was going to save for me went the same way as the bit I was going to save for her. Their sourdough buns are damn good too! (Boathouse Bakery on the Quay in Exeter)

There's some lovely bread on that 'artisan' bread counter at Morrisons and Sainsburys.. My favourite is German pumpernickel bread/rolls. Sadly, they aren't there very often.

Not the same but I'm hooked on pecan cake. I warm it and spread butter on it and have it with my afternoon coffee. On one of my US trips I recall driving past an orchard of pecan trees.

Just set up my new Macbook Air M1 :-) The 2012 macbook pro was finally starting to show it's age and while I was tempted by the 2021 MBP the fact that the Air is nearly a grand cheaper made it a no brainer!

Bought a used car that had faulty brakes a few months ago. Dealer wasn't much help so I had them fixed (the brakes that is) . Complained to the finance company and they have made the dealer pay the full cost of repair back to me. Money arrived today!

I like a trotter but my preference is the hock, also from Morrisons. Yummy.

On Tuesaday I posted about the problems I was having buying gifts online . I tried again on Wednesday morning with more success. On each there was an option to forego the free delivery (on account of the spend level) and pay from £4-6 respectively, for 'next day' delivery. I considered that option, the reason being I'm time-constrained. My thinking is that it would be money wasted as they want to get the items out of their warehouses as quickly as possible as the Christmas buying period takes hold so I didn't pay for that service. Yesterday, I got Emails informing me that the items had been despatched...ie... within 24 hours of receipt of my order and all but one arrived today and the last one will arrive tomorrow. That's happened on most occasions in the past so something to bear in mind . I did a check and 40% of 'next day' delivery options don't arrive the next day.

The chrome surround for a numberplate, bought for my old car and didn't fit, does fit my new car, so fitted it this afternoon! Result!

Getting the lawns cut, all the plant pots sorted and the leaves raked up as it's our last garden waste collection next Tuesday + Mrs WW made a batch of compost and the quality is probably better than anything we've had shop bought. I'm hoping we grow and orange or banana tree next year with it :D

This morning I opened the door to take some post from a young lady (post women..or post-person  ) who I hadn't seen before. A 20-something...and she lifted my spirits with her cheerie 'hello', her broad California-sunshine smile, her beautiful white piano keys teeth and tied up and back golden hair. What a start to the day.:)

WCMUT was how quick and easy it was to get my booster. I was hoping to get it at the local surgery (where I had the first 2) but it seems they're not doing it for me now so I had to book in to a centre. I know a couple of people who volunteer there so had an idea that it would be a fairly smooth experience and so it proved. The only PITA was the 15 minute wait after the jab itself.

I took my mam for hers on Friday and I was amazed that things seem to have slipped back. It was an absolute shambles the first time we went but it went like clockwork every time after that. This time there was no one there to meet and greet and take names and organise, in fact there was no one on the ground floor at all other than some pensioners questioning a clueless security guard in a cubical (it's a combined library, health clinic, opticians and more.) Upstairs one member of staff was visible through a doorway and she was on a personal call (or at least it had drifted into personal) for over 10 minutes before she deemed to come out and see what we wanted. Still we got to hear all about her mate and her boyfriend troubles.
