WCMUT....what cheered me up today

On what grounds?

I'm asthmatic and wont be in close quarters to anyone without me wearing a mask.

I'd rather be a bit uncomforatble for 15 minutes if it reduces mine or someone elses chances even a little bit.

A tortoise has been reunited with its owners after......50 years.. :)

The owners were confirmed after describing some unusual habits of the creature including head-butting shoes ...lol...and chewing shoelaces

WCMUT?

Just how much a bloke in a shed can do. Got a couple of Z1 engines and fancy a 6 cylinder motor? No problem and it'll help pass the time during lockdown!

He's also done a V12 using a couple of Z1300 blocks, not to mention a V twin using a couple of barrels from an old radial engine. And other stuff!
Cool
Would rather have a CBX though.....

These exemption certificates are a load of old cobblers akin to all the vague reasons some people have a service mutt.
Fair enough if a doctor certified it, but no proof needed other the applicants say so

I'm asthmatic too, but haven't been left gasping for breath with a mask on.
Plus I have some rather snazzy ones to share with the general public

Consider yourself lucky you only suffer from asthma then, because you'd obviously turn down any help you could get with any other problems wouldn't you? I think not!

I won't insult you as it's against forum rules, but for coming out with a statement like that you most certainly deserve it.

Because when I`m on the bus in this heat I struggle to breathe.

If you have smoked for a long while and just given up it will get much worse, trust me.
All the old crap will start working its way out and that's apart from all the mental grief

Stopped smoking last week but had asthma as a child, then working with asbestos for so many years did my lungs right in.

Insult away, I do regularly, best warn you though I won't care
Anyone can say they have something wrong and probably have done.
Its not the principle I object to, just the way its administered and those touchy feely mutts in supermarkets, NO

The only person I see who should be embarrassed around here is the first person who's earned a place on my ignore list.

Be careful you don't skin your knuckles on the way home later . . .

Thank you (just in case I beat the ignored listing)

I should add I would never ever class a seeing eye dog as a dodgy service mutt
They can and should be allowed anywhere

And what do you see as a dodgy service mutt?

For example a "Comfort" dog I saw in the supermarket, no idea what it was comforting.
Poor thing nearly got strangled and trampled under foot/wheel, it was tethered to a wheelchair and didn't look at all happy.

Lets get back to the exemption certificates you declare for yourself which was my original issue.
Ludicrous that you can just give a spurious reason not to wear a mask, no one is that chuffed with them.
At least get one with a bona fide reason signed off by a doctor, not because you just don't fancy it

Can't speak for the one you saw but comfort or emotional support dogs are invaluable to their owners, nothing "dodgy" about them at all. i know two people who have them and they make a hell of a difference to their lives.

It was rather tongue in cheek, but sorry if I did offend anyone, but not sure most are that thin skinned
Seem to manage to upset people even more easily these days, maybe the virus has made things a bit more serious than usual.

Glad these dogs do help the owners, still don't want them in food shops though.

How about the exemption certificate, getting glossed over a bit?

Are you Scottish?

Are you Scottish?

Partly yes, enough that I would qualify to play football for Scotland.
Bought that bandana for a trip to Edinburgh on St Andrews day the other year.
Must be my heritage, it was free to get in the castle on that day :)

My paternal grandparents were married in Brechin, Angus before answering the call for farm workers in England

Happy to smoke up till last week with asthma but won't wear a mask on the bus because of asthma... I imagine one is a lot worse for you

I am pretty sure In the Covid thread he was calling everyone who went to the beach dirty scum as they only think of themselves, yet happy to go out and about potentially infecting people!!!

I would rather be on a packed beach in the open than on a bus or in a shop with someone without a mask!!!

Also went to town to have 8 pints on Monday

What an unbelievable frame of snooker, proper edge of your seat entertainment.

Highest scoring frame ever? currently 168 with 25 still on the table

Shame that a fluke basically sealed the frame BUT they all count!

WCMUT is receiving a new-to-me lens - the 80mm Macro XF Fuji. Thanks, Fadi!

I don't know if this actually cheered me up but it did lead to a warm feeling with a touch of pride in my long gone dad.

We were watching the VJ program on BBC and they showed a Burma Star so I got my dads medals out and had a look at them, Burma Star amongst them.

He was in the navy. He volunteered and lied about his age as he was too young. Also he couldn't swim so a friend fiddled the test for him. What they had to do was swim a length and then get their ID card stamped. The card had a picture on it and as dads mate placed it down to be stamped he covered the picture with his fingers. It worked. Dad very rarely spoke about the war and even threw his medals away but mam retrieved them from the bin and I've had them ever since. He used to have a small case full of stuff including lots of photographs but that disappeared years before he died, presumably thrown out when no one was looking. I'd love to have those pictures now and I'd love to know more about what he did in WW2.

Anyway. To all those who fought in the far east and indeed anywhere else.

If you still have his service number, the number he was given on joining the RN, I think it will be possible to obtain a copy of his service record. This gives the names and dates of joining/leaving all the ships he served on and using that list you can trace the history of those ships. This should give you a pretty good idea of what he saw and did.

I have also found that there is a Burma Star Association which may also be able to help you.

Thanks for that Christopher. I have no idea about his service number as the only record I have are his medals. I'll have a look at the box and everything inside and see if it's there.

I do know he served on smaller ships such as minesweepers and submarine chasers, as he called them, and did convoy duty in the Atlantic and around Africa (as he called them) and also had a stint on motor patrol boats. I'll see what I can find.

Since there's no point in letting the current persisting rain annoy me, I'm looking on the bright side!

Having drained the last drops out of the water butt to allow me to stick it on a more level base, this morning's rain has filled it back up!

As you are a close relative, if you do a search for navy service records on the you gov website it will lead you to a page detailing how you can obtain your dad's service records.

If you are successful and want to know about the ships he served on I will be happy to research them for you.

After watching the prices go up & up during the lockdown period, yesterday I spotted some Philips rechargeable hairclippers on Amazon for £35 (they had been anything up to £180 on Amazon Marketplace). Elsewhere they were priced at £55.
Even though they appeared to be out of stock the Amazon website said I should receive them by the end of the month so just after 4pm yesterday I ordered them, declining to pay for delivery as usual.

Less than half an hour ago, they were delivered to my door.... well done Amazon.
