WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I've been ill for a couple of weeks but deffo on the mend and yesterday we walked to the shops along a disused railtrack. It's just yards from houses but enclosed by trees and bushes and when there we could be miles from anywhere. It's wonderful to walk there and listen to the birds and look at the wild flowers and insects. The wild raspberries are coming on nicely and it looks like there's going to be a good crop of brambles. What's not to be happy about :D
 
We have a Sky HD+ box that had been playing up for a couple of months ( I suspect the internal HDD). At the end of last month I negotiated its free replacement with Sky & we are expecting a new Sky Q box to be installed next week. Since I spoke to Sky the HD+ box has behaved impeccably. We had expected it to fail completely weeks ago......
 
Spotting and watching the behaviour of a leaf cutter bee at work.

Quite intriguing to watch......on most visits it would cut the first leaf it managed to land on. Another visit it went from leaf to leaf, even part cutting a couple, before settling on a "preferred" leaf to cut and fly off with its prize.

Fascinating and delightful to observe :)

Oh dear! our one was cutting a self seeded Lysisteria (query spelling) so no great harm by comparison to your situation, though SWMBO did wonder if it was also having a nibble at the roses???
 
I spent a while out in the rain taking pictures. It's not cold but maybe cool and obviously it's wet and the light is flat and dead but I still enjoyed it :D

To be fair no real harm done, I don't begrudge them a leaf or 3, its nothing that a little trimming won't sort out.
Roses? no idea TBH but It could well be(e) :coat:

Did you see where it went? last year one perpetrator moved a few feet and buried itself into / under my Chinese cherry apple tree :rolleyes:

Had a very definite flightpath....over the garden wall towards one of the Lime Trees but then lost sight of it.............so no idea what its destination might be(e) ;) ???
 
Quick response by police.

I gave them a call late Monday afternoon regarding a shed of a vehicle that appeared that day in our road. An 'A' registered (1983/4) Lexus. IS 22D..a smaller one. No registration plates either on the front nor the rear .There was one on the rear parcel shelf. Great to see it put onto a trailer and off to the crusher yesterday evening.

A good outcome from a potential tragedy.

Speaks highly for his composure and presence of mind in one so young.
 
This didn't cheer me up..I was intrigued .This afternoon we were out for a walk and I took a double take on the council man walking behind a very large grass-cutter on a large grassed area (the size of machine that usually has someone sitting on it ) and it was trundling along infront of him no driver. I then realised that he was walking behind it remotely-controlling it. Never seen that before.

I have seen similar where the gradient of the grass being cut was quite steep.

It was on level ground but there's an steep embankment to the left down to a brook and another on the right down to the footpath,so that's probably why, then . We had the grass verges on our road done a few days ago by a chap on a reular one so it looks like they're just using the remote ones for risky steep areas.

There's a roundabout & flyover near where we live, steeply sloping & covered with grass. That's where I have seen the remote mower used
 
This could so easily ended up in the WAMT thread

Bought na food processor from Amazon back in May. Went to use it yesterday and neither the blade or disc would spin once I'd put food in it. Went on to Amazon. to request a refund and noticed that the return window closed 31st July.

Used chat this morning and was instantly offered a replacement or refund. Chose refund and received an email with a returns label before I could even type thanks. It's being picked up tomorrow. :)
 
Had a juvenile Goldfinch fly into the kitchen window and it then fell to the ground, stunned (ironically, it seems to have hit the UV reflective anti bird strike sticker...). Picked it up and put it in the covered part of the bird feeder/house to keep it vaguely sheltered and reasonably safe while it recovered. Kept an eye on it and the surroundings (too many magpies around) and when Mrs Nod spotted a squirrel (not sure if they take young birds but wouldn't put it past the hairy-tailed rats!) I went out to warn the squirrel off. Young Goldie had recovered enough to take exception to me being that close and flew off, possibly a bit dazed and confused but flew off strongly and straight!
 
My 1st day back at work after furlough today but that's not why I'm posting (although I'm happy to be back).

At the beginning of the year, I was unable to access the app on my iPhone which allows me to access the VPN when I work from home. Turned out there was a compatibility issue with the then latest version of iOS so I was given an old (and I mean old) Samsung which I hated as it's a nightmare for me to turn on/off. Today, I found out that the issue was fixed so I now have it back on my iPhone.

IT don't want the Samsung back so I now have something to take my frustrations out on with a hammer! :D

A good outcome. It is quite surprising how well some birds recover from what appears to be a severe hit. Squirrels do raid nests for eggs and chicks and I'm sure a dazed adult bird would be taken if the opportunity arose.

Thanks for that, Dave, good job Mrs Nod was on the ball! When I first rescued it, it was halfway between twitching and shivering so we were a bit worried. Put it on a table just outside the door and kept a close eye on it until it was looking a bit better (head up) before sticking it on the bird table/house. Might have to print off a couple of raptor pix to stick on the windows but they'd obstruct the view from the windows.
 
Refund from cancelled March holiday now in the bank, yippee.

Squirrels are omniverous and will take eggs, nestlings and young birds if they get the chance. Greys and reds are both guilty of this!

It was collected at 10 this morning by Hermes. Less than an hour later, I received an email from Amazon, confirming my refund. An hour after that, my NEW ONE arrived. :banana:

Always good to not get bad news! Got my glaucoma tests on the 21st but at least that means I can avoid the puff test next Tuesday at my normal eye test!
