WCMUT....what cheered me up today

A haircut and beard trim always cheers me up for some reason. Slightly less wild man of Borneo now!
My bold.

I had my haircut last Monday and said exactly that to "Clive". I've been going to him for years. He's winding down now and only works on a Monday so all the 'oldies' who have been with him for years go on Monday. His son has taken over those premises and runs two others in the county.

Anyway, he was surprised when I told him how much it cheers me up and gives me a real lift to have a hair cut and he was surprised. I don't let it grow long as that annoys me and I don't have a beard.

Why ? I've just Googled it.

"One of the significant benefits of getting a haircut is improved confidence. A good haircut can make us look and feel better and give us an extra boost of self-confidence. Another positive effect of regular haircuts is lowered stress and anxiety levels"

My wife tells me it takes a few years off me, too :D

WCMUT ? My five year old grandson's one liners. Taking him home, he was dozing in his car seat. My missus suddenly said to him, excitedly, "We're passing the bus garage soon." (he likes buses) Without moving a muscle or opening his eyes, he just said "I'm asleep!" I don't get away with that one at home!
Kids do say some funny things
i remember my partners grandson saying he was going to Manchester on Saturday on the ‘tramp’

Conversation with someone earlier prompted me to contact my car insurance provider and I have saved around £100
a year
I checked my MOT online and found that since I retired I only do around 4000 miles a year so if I restrict it to 5000
it's £100 cheaper.

Several months ago I posted on how easy it was to make ice-cream. Last week my wife made a coffee and walnut cake putting some Baileys into it. I just thought I'd try it with ice-cream next time I made some. I did that yesterday and it's great. It tastes like expensive Haagen-Dasz. If anyone wants to make some for Christmas here's how again. It will make enough to fill the normal sized square ice-cream box from the supermarket.

600mls of double cream and I found that M&S makes a noticeable difference re quality. Pour it into a large bowl. Add one tin of condensed carnation milk and whisk it (electric hand whisk) As it starts thickening add 50mls of original Baileys..not a supermarket's own brand if you want extra-quality taste. Continue to whisk until it gets to the consistency of mud. No more. I found that out by trial and error. I was overwhisking it.

Obviously, for plain ice-cream don't add Baileys. There's a caramel carnation condensed milk, too if you like caramel and that tastes lovely ,too.

WCMUT was getting the car cleaned. Had to fill up so went straight after dropping Mrs Nod off at 07:00 and went through the whirly-wash after filling.

WCMUT Shopping done by 6.30 am! Thank you for opening early!

I was really surprised when I went down to pick Mrs Nod up from work and shopping at 11:00 - roads were significantly quieter than a "normal" Saturday.

Perhaps people have stopped buying more Chinese "Cra*" to add to their "stuff"! If we stop buying it, the shops will stop selling it! Todays Christmas presents and wrapping - tomorrows recycling and landfill!

Late night shopping for me, for the last perishable bits, sometime before midnight when they shut.

Food defrosting nicely, ready to cook tomorrow.
Grand kids presents wrapped.
Reindeer steaks in the air fryer.
And it must be 5 O'clock somewhere (y)

Ah,yes. I forgot. Have a good one. Btw. I just missed the drawbridge coming down in HT with my reply to Mr Munch. Pity, you'd have approved :) I'll keep it, though.

I hate to say it, but my son taking his eldest two lads home. They've been here since Sunday morning, they are 11 & 8 and do nothing but argue & fight with each other, and the younger one picks on his 2 year old brother, taking away anything he plays with. I know they have problems, my son is their step dad, and their own father is a waste of oxygen, but they have no respect for other peoples homes & property. It's nice and quiet now, especially as the Mrs is working today....

Took the G80 with me walking the dog earlier. I've now already taken more photos on that camera this year than I did last year.

Seeing that the persistent rain hasn't breached my conservatory roof and windows, since my repairs, during the one (very cold) but dry day last week. Well worth the brass monkey (me) losing its marbles! SWMBO still believes that a plastic and glass conservatory is a "building" that, as it is attached to the house, should be carpeted and filled with cloth upholstered or polished wood furniture! I understand that it is all to do with Venus and Mars and that I should just agree all the time! Not going to happen! :)

WCMUT ? Seeing all the plastic Chinese Christmas junk being loaded back onto pallets in the shop because nobody bought it. Todays trimmings tomorrows landfill!

Next month, you'll get to see all the plastic Chinese New Year junk replacing it. :)
Shelves of gold plastic solar powered waving cats getting their paws pulled off by the kids, so that they can all join the Christmas junk in the landfill. :P

More of a chuckle really,
Dumb ass magpie flying at the bird feeder, to shake the seeds loose,
going down for its spoils, only to discover pigeons are already sitting there, clearing up :D

Or he's working to fatten them up ;)

Little things please little minds...

This morning me and Mrs were walking when a car pulled up along side us and the woman driver wound the window down and said in a quite firm voice "Can I just say..." The first thing that flashed through my mind was "What have we done wrong?" and I really couldn't think of anything but she quickly followed with "You two look so cute."

:D

Did she then ask for directions to specsavers?
:p
(Sorry couldn't resist :coat: )

I forgot I was married for a second and told her "You're cute too."

Now that I come to think about it... She had quite a manic grin and I thought her left hand was clutching the handbrake but it looked to have a strange wooden handle and an unusual long shiny shaft... It could have been a carving knife.

WCMUT ? Nowt! her indoors says that I am still as miserable as sin! :) Roll on summer!

On Tuesday, when I was doing my volunteer shift and the charity shop, I mentioned that I needed to get to the local tip nefore they changed to appointments as I had a coal effect log burner type electric fire to get rid of
She said the shop would take it as long as it had a CE label, which it did
Took it in yesterday and it was PAT tested and put in the window for £75
Went in today and it was marked sold, someone had seen it in the window and rang to reserve it, she collected it later while I was working, seems she walked down to get some chips yesterday evening and rang this morning to reserve it
We also had a couple of people leave their numbers it she hadn't bought it
So that is nearly £100 for something that was headed for the tip £75 + 25% tax for gift aid :)(y)

In November we had a glazier round to price up the cost of replacing the double glaze in one of the patio doors. The seal had gone and it was misting up. It would cost £200 but it would be better to replace the glass in the other door, too, so £400. Whilst measuring up he had a quick look at at the front bedroom transom window which we weren't able to open. Turns out some plastic pieces either side had broken and was stopping the window opening. So.. we thought we better give him the patio doors job and agreed the price. We haven't heard from him since so we called in a local company that fitted a new front door for us several years ago. He also recommended both doors be done. £160 if we went for one door,..£320 for both,on the face of it but they got a discount on two and it would only be one visit rather than return at a later date to replace the glass in the other door, so £280. He got the job.

Btw. Next door wanted a new front and back door. The first chap left a brochure for only composite doors which are really expensive and an insider told friends of ours to avoid them. That would have cost our neighbour almost £2500. We sent our man to see her and it will cost her £1800 for two PVC 5-lever lock doors. Just shows how important it is to get a couple of quotes. He was a bit naughty just leaving the composite door brochure with her, though.

The last moments of the Exeter Chiefs - Glasgow Warriors match. Not so much the result as that after a last seconds try was disallowed, the captains simply accepted the ref's decision, shook hands and got on with it.

I did enjoy the Saints match :)

Will never catch on in football,
I did think the Warriors were hard done by there, but maybe I’m a little biased.

Mrs WW made Thai tea custard and we dipped toast soldiers in it. It was lovely :D

I think she said she's going to make green tea custard next.

Toast dipped in custard?
I'll try most things, but I'm not convinced at all on that.

It's not really like the yellow custard you might have on a pie or a bowl of fruit, it was Thai Tea custard. It had the texture of custard and a sort of caramel like colour and taste. Thai Tea custard on toast soldiers might not sound ideal but it was lovely.

We were due another lovely thing for dinner which might seem strange to you, spicy corn pancakes. They're made with flour and corn and soy sauce and sriracha sauce. I have a bug and a soar throat so I couldn't have any as they're very spicy.
