Bought a strip of raffle tickets yesterday in aid of Diabetes Research. Discovered that I'd won a prize today - a bag of Mars Celebrations.

Congrats always nice to win a prize :D

The irony wasn't entirely lost on me, either! To be fair, the raffle was at the golf club and the prizes were donated; it just so happened that Diabetes Research is this year's chosen charity. I might give them to my dentists' practice. :D (Need to add a gap!!!)

RayBan Wayfarers with blue mirrored lenses arriving, nice shades :/

Finding a refund cheque from TV licensing peeps in my post box :D
Seems we have a scheme where I live and I can get the licence for £7.50 a year if I joined, so I did :D

Got my car insurance renewal, its gone up by £4

Got my car insurance renewal, its gone up by £4
My son was over the moon last week, he notified his insurer of his new address and they gave him over £100 refund and he still has 6 months before renewal, he'll be expecting a very low premium compared to what he paid last year.

More made me chuckle today..
Talking of insurance, my house insurance was due early in the new year. I've been with the same company for 2 consecutive years
and last year they sent me a renewal advice about 10 days before it was due.

This year nothing!
I thought I know what you are going to do, send me a "no need to do anything" one last minute in the hope that I wont have time to shop around and just say oh sod it!
Wrong! I got onto the meerkat and found a couple for the same price as the current last years.
Phoned up the then current insurance company and said are you going to quote for 2109?
We have .. err hang on... yes we have but the letter hasn't been sent!
FFS epic fail.
I got a price and it had risen by over £30.
I told them that I had a a price from XX matching last years premium but they wouldn't budge.
So its bye bye from me..

What made me chuckle? the quote arrived today.
A week after I had phoned them and sometime after the expiry date of the old policy :D

Wolves, red squirrels and lynxes. Nipped up to Wildwood with Mrs Nod and met a mate there. The wolves even obliged us with an only slightly obscure view of feeding.

Is it the same organisation as Wildwood in Kent?
I need to revisit...not been in ages.

I think so.

@viv1969

Just had a look at the Escot Wildwood website and yes, it is the same organisation as the site in Kent.

Got dragged out holiday shopping:grumpy: with SWMBO today and for once glad I was.
Picked up a nice pair of shorts thought they looked good at £19.99 got to the till charged £3.99, 80% of all ticket prices so picked up a rather nice pair of shoes for £19.99 and a baseball cap for £4.99. I didn't even mind when SWMBO picked up a few bits for herself.

Bought a new bathroom basin, cabinet and bath panels from Victoria Plum last week.
Came today at 06.55, they said between 07.00 and 20.00, so pretty good in my book.
Even better the items had gone down 20% since I bought them and they refunded the difference when asked.

You can go off people, well if you liked them in the first place :p

Getting blood out of a stone

BT have been buggering me about, with the BB service, its still on going, but I got a £25 refund, without even asking!

Its all well and good BT but sort out the bloody problem!

My camera repair is done and i'll have it back tomorrow!

Not being on nil by mouth or a limited diet.

Those who are 55 this or last year will either know what I mean or will be finding out soon!

A few things this past week or so,
New job back in the old game (Oil & Gas Cad Support), loads more money (going into retirement fund as I'm 64 in a couple of weeks)
Checked out car insurance (as it had gone up 30% for absolutely no reason) and got it £40 less than last year's premium, so almost £100 less than this year's premium(same cover same company, albeit through a broker last year, direct this year)
Checked out House/Contents insurance and got a few quid off the £800 odd price (dont ask why the premium is so high, it's complicated) but slightly better cover
Finished watching Breaking Bad (Netflix)
Got a better deal out of BT (although back on contract now)

But the real BIG ONE
Daughter and I are talking again after 2 years of silence and I got to see my Granddaughter at last.

So 2019 has started as a really good year after 3 awful ones.

I was 55 the year before last, so I haven't a clue. :)

Well, 55 was nigh on a decade ago for me........and I don't recall anything significant of that nature back then. So I am "confused" too.

50+ get the offer of a Hassleblad inserted where you dont want one inserted to check for bowel cancer etc.

55 is the "magic" age for the bowel cancer screening to be offered automatically - and luckily, they now use Minoxes instead of Hassies! I have friends who are now 56 and they will have to ask for it (if they want the checks).

Not fun but worth it for peace of mind.

Getting a quote for a new car and being asked if I carry explosives, shotgun cartridges, rifle ammo

If it helps to reduce the premium I can answer yes to all (y)
