WBMT.....What baffled me today

Hence my last post on the previous page. :P

WBMT?
Actually it could also be a WAMT.

Tesco's earlier today, food shop, plus I needed a couple of birthday cards.
I went upstairs to these aisles ..

They were busily stripping the gondola's of these items and replacing them with Christ Xma cards.
you know that thing when some bloke was apparently born.
Is no one else allowed to have a birthday in Oct / Nov / Dec ?

BT yet again
Apparently the fastest way to get a response to a phone or BB issue is to text help to the number supplied.
Yet again, I had several drop off's this morning, in the space of 2 hours.
Normally my BB is around 33mbs & 6.7mbs.
following the drop offs it was 11mbs & 3mbs.
I text help to number, and the response was "its all fine, it must be your internal wiring" ( this was all renewed a few months ago)

A speed test about half an hour later shows 37mbs ( it shouldn't be that high 35mbs max according to the engineer I was talking to, while he replaced all the internal wiring. )
and up 6.7mbs.

Curiously this is the second time in recent months
I have had to text "help"
The second time I was told there was no external problem
The second time it "sorted itself out" about half an hour later ;)
I had daily dropouts with BT, at least 12 engineers out to try and sovle the issue over several years
I did get it sorted, I left BT moved to Vodafone, two visits and a couple of months later all fix running at 74mb 100% of the time

I had daily dropouts with BT, at least 12 engineers out to try and sovle the issue over several years
Fibre to cabinet sorted a lot of the problems, new cable both internal and from the road side box to property sorted most of the rest.
The weak link is the 50 + years old copper cable from the cabinet to the road side junction box.
I know this, the open reach engineers know this, BT however seem blind to it, no matter how many time I've mentioned this in a fault report and emails to the CEO's office :(

However its been steady at around 33 & 7mb/s since my last compliant...
Yes I know its only a matter of time before another piece of old copper wire fails,
But @ just over 30 quid for BB and mobile I'll put up with it..

It's really annoying isn't?

I hate this festive crap anyway, but seeing as two of my kids and three of my grand-kids have birthdays this final quarter it makes it so much worse. :banghead:

All the shops do it and then they (the management halfwits) wonder why everyone is moving to buying everything online . . .

My Mrs has two birthdays. One in June and one in November.

I do too, one when Mum popped me out and one when I was given a new start by the brain surgery team at Derriford.

Not really baffling, and not really unexpected ...

I just saw a lorry go past, yellow warning lights, it was losing its load :(
It was a gritter but even so.
Looks like winter is well on the way.

Predicted temps over night, here, around mid 30's oF

Why it has taken Sky 3 days to put the time right on my sky !
It's still been showing BST since the clocks changed

A bit crispy here at 05:45 this morning but it had softened by 06:30 so Mrs Nod didn't need to scrape, just squeegie!

It's getting a bit chilly in Edinburgh but no frost yet, more cold, wet and miserable. I mean the weather, not the First Minister! ;)

When I was kid in Glasgow, I was advised to stay as far away from "dour Edinburgh" as possible. I deny this is the reason I have lived in Devon for the last fifty years.... :naughty:

Apparently, the place furthest from Edinburgh on the globe is Papatowai (South Island, NZ), so you still have a bit more to do. It looks lovely.

Indeed. My father came from Glasgow, I grew up in Stirling and went to univeristy in Edinburgh. Left the UK after I graduated and moved to Hong Kong, which is nearly as far away you can get, then to South Africa for 30 odd years. Wound up back in Edinburgh through a combination of circumstances, which I'm not going to go into now, but SA and the sun still call me back ...

We had the same problem this morning, looking for a Wedding card for our son & his partner. Most of the shelf space is now devoted to winter 'Seasonal' greetings cards

Trying to clone out a tiny dust bunny,
It just would not shift no matter what I tried .. clone tool, spot healing tool :(

Then it occurred to me, it was a tiny mark on the monitor DOH!

Laugh liked, unliked, relaughed, unlaughed etc.. Several times!!! BTDTGTTS!

I ordered something and the courier said they'd delivered it but there was no delivery photo which I thought suspicious, I was in all day and didn't get it. I contacted the courier but they didn't reply so I contacted the supplier and they said they'd sort it out or send a replacement and sure enough a week later the item came. Since then I've received endless messages from the supplier and the courier saying another is on its way to me and I've sent endless messages back saying that I got the original, very late but it did come, and they don't owe me anything, But the messages just keep coming and the courier says the item (the second) is on its way to me.

I'm on the verge of giving up. No one seems to care that this is a duplicate item and they don't owe me anything, I'm think of keeping it for a few months and seeing if they ask for it back or try and charge me.

What would you do?

Just got another email, that's 3 today. AFTER I said again that they don't owe me anything!!!

If it comes I think it can sit on top of a wardrobe until they ask for it back or bill me. If they don't it'll be a spare in case the original conks.

If any of the extra items arrive legally they belong to the supplier*. You should contact the supplier and ask them to collect the items, giving them reasonable time to do, and at their cost. Just keep copies of any correspondence. What I haven't found out is the legal position if the supplier doesn't collect the item. I don't know at what time(if ever) the item becomes yours because the supplier has failed to recover them.

Dave

* BTW if you received goods you never ordered then they are 'unsolicited goods' and you can keep them, though you might want to offer the supplier the chance to collect them at their own expense.

Don't worry, I was just annoyed when I posted above. If the item comes I'll email them again but I'm getting... irritated as I'm getting updates from both the supplier and the courier and have replied to each with nothing I say seeming to register with them. If it arrives I'll zap off another email, I wont bin it or use it, it'll be here should someone actually read an email, realise and understand what's going on and then contact me to collect it.

It's not as if this is from China and no one can be bothered or it's too much hassle and expense to stop it and return it, this is a UK supplier.

That sounds to me like Amazon Alan. I've had this with them a few times.

In all cases, I was told to keep the items. One of them was an office chair that cost £150.00. I wasn't going to argue . . .

It's not amazon but it is annoying.

Actually the customer service was quite good in that they sent a replacement but they don't seem to accept that I've since received the original, I'm happy and they don't owe me a replacement, and this is a UK supplier so there shouldn't be any language problems. I could understand it if it was a one man band in China but this is a big UK supplier. I have tried to phone them but that was a bit of a hassle and at least with emails I have a written record and trail.

With Amazon I recently had a low value item I wanted a refund on and they sent Hermes to collect it which I was shocked about as IMO it should have gone in the bin, unless they wanted proof I wasn't lying and wanted the thing and a refund, that is a possibility I suppose.

LOL! They did that to me last week. The item was only three quid and they'd already included postage one way. To send it back was madness - it would have cost more than a replacement. I ended up with a much better quality item for only a pound more anyway.

I've just had yet another email from the supplier thanking me for letting them know I've received the item. That's three today plus the courier ones. I wonder if these are auto generated somehow and no human actually reads the incoming email?

As phoning them costs me money and they don't seem to listen anyway I'm done now. If it comes it comes. I will write to them again if it comes but I'm done worrying about this and I'm not going to lose any sleep over this as I really have tried.

Grrrrr.

:D

On a similar theme but from a different angle, I made a right cock of myself with a courier company last week.

I received an email saying my parcel would be delivered between 8am and 1pm. By 6pm it hadn't been delivered but there was another email telling me it had been delivered at 10:25am.

I immediately emailed the courier telling them very clearly that there had been no delivery.

They replied almost immediately assuring me they would deal with it and get back to me.

It was only, about 5 minutes later, when I showed the first email to Mrs Tringa and she said, "What's that picture down there?", that I scrolled down to see a photo of a parcel outside our from door!

I had managed to confuse two deliveries - embarrassment and lots of humble pie. :$

A second hurried, apologetic email to the courier company.

Dave

Signing up for my 6th Half Marathon.... WHY?????

Did 3, the one for March 2020 I transferred due to injury and the one a few weeks ago I cancelled as hadn't trained! But a good 5 mile run on Sat made me feel like its worth doing!!! Baffling!

My dilemma over that duplicate item I posted about above has been resolved as Hermes have lost it.

I'm now baffled as to why anyone would use this appalling delivery company. They "lost" the original order too but it did show up after a little over a week being "lost" so if this mistakenly sent replacement does show up at some point I'll email the supplier. Not that they'll read my email, but it'll make me feel better. It's not as if this is a small parcel, it's about the size of a microwave oven and quite heavy.

It’s officially (officially :lol)the day after the 4th Thursday in November, so next week Friday 25th and Cyber Monday is the following Monday.

The 4th Thursday in November is Thanksgiving when Americans give thanks for being conned into buying things they didn’t know they needed ;)

Oops! It’s also complicated because Canada and several others have Thanksgivings but on different days.

Our Black Friday is pure marketing and could be any time but works because people have vaguely heard about it :(,

I can never work out what all the fuss is about, if I don't need what's on offer I don't buy it

As per my comment, that went out the window some time ago, as it started last Monday.
Not as bad as Chri... xma.... that thing that is supposed to start no earlier than Dec
Starting August bank holiday!
I mean come on, I doubt that Mary had even told Joseph she is pregnant.

I’ve just had an email from Sainsburys to say I can’t bookings Festivus (alt US name) deliveries)

Dec 25th has nothing to do with that pregnancy, no connection at all!

Yes I know, but most people accept it as "fact"
Otherwise there would be no pressies or day(s) off on that date. :D

Apparently Tesco had about an hour on-line queue for festive booking slots when they released them recently
It seems that the season of good will manages to bring out the worse in some people too :(
