WBMT.....What baffled me today

Well, while we're on the subject ...

The last time I went to the 'Gents' in Charles de Gaulle airport there was a female cleaner working in the urinal area. Didn't seem to bother anyone, and TBH it didn't faze me either.

I”m not sure that was the satnav , the article says a passenger told him he could get back that way :(.

The way I read it is that the sat nav initially directed him that way and he must have queried it with the passenger (maybe after reading the 'not suitable for vehicles' sign) and the passenger then told him it was passable.

WBMT is where covid's vanished to. Apparently our local major hospital is full of covid patients now the pandemic has vanished.

According to a nurse friend of mine, most of the people in hospital with covid where they work are there for other reason and happen to have covid, or in some cases have underlying health issues which means covid is far worse from them.

More covid cases in our local hospital than at any time in the past means that it's still a fairly big problem but has been swept under the rug and seems to be being ignored.

Buying dried meal worms. I checked lires to grams. 1L = 1000 grams.

Range 500g. £12

Amazon 5L £11.99

Happybreaks. 200g £4.99

RSPB 500g £13.99

Chubbymealworms 5L...£13.99

Got them at M&B here in Gloucester £4.99 for 500g.

Feedsandseeds have them listed in both grammes and litres..I can only think that they don't want you seeing which is best value. https://feedsandseeds.com/products/...MI75vijZDT9gIVWO3tCh1wogsbEAAYASAAEgJ7_vD_BwE

Same in supermarkets which will have size 1 of a product priced in grammes and size 2 in litres. They shouldn't be allowed to do this.

I've just tried more Googles and found this.

The best value for money (by far) on Amazon UK is to buy the 2kg bags of mealworms. These 5-litre tubs contain approximately 900g i.e. 0.9kg of mealworms.

That calculation doesn't match when I Googled to see what 1L was in grammes..top of post...1L=1000g so the 5L tubs should contain 5 x 1000 = 5000gms .The person posting must have weighed the tub rated in litres.

The mind boggles.

A litre of dried mealworms weighs nothing like a 1000gm. Even a litre of live ones wouldn’t make a kilo :(.

Live ones are more fun unpacking and surprisingly speedy!

Also live ones are British mealworms whereas the dried one are Chinese and may be Putin supporters.

I never buy dried because the mothers won’t feed them to the chicks :(
"Crop milk"?
In reality I've no idea on that, but I certainly get a lot of adults of various species including "my" hedgehog woofing them down.
There is also plenty of seed, fat balls, peanuts etc. for them to eat, or take back to the nest.

It’s interesting that. When I have blue tits in the nest box they come to the feeder and eat (black sunflower seeds, it’s a short distance from the box) but they never return to the box from there, always fly off and come back (I presume with spiders etc) in a short while. So it seems they too only feed ‘live” food to the chicks.

Different dietary requirements for growth and energetic life, I'd guess.

Have the chicks got the ability to digest seeds as they have no grit in their guts?

Nod says that that 5L =900gms, so 1L is 180gms.

Just out of interest here's one of several conversion tables where I got my information .All very confusing.

If you can persuade my wife to have live worms wriggling around in a box that, I agree, would be much better . :D I do soak them overnight before putting them out for the Robins (2) and Blackbirds...4. I've watched the robins take them. It's first choice for them..there's crunched up fat balls..seed and crushed redskin nuts. alongside,on the ground (safely fenced off from cats) but it's the meal worms that they go for first .

Not much anyone can do re the source of them..China, other than not to feed them to the birds, as it seems it's the only country the UK gets them from. Maybe the only country Europe gets them from too. I've only just started buying them.

EU authorises mealworms for human consumption. May 2021 https://news.sky.com/story/dried-me...helves-and-restaurants-across-europe-12296768

Do you know what 1l is in grammes ? This is just one calculator website that has it as 10000gmsw. The last one in the list.

Of course you can always breed your own, it pretty simple, quantiy is a problem though.

There is no such thing as a conversion of litres to grams since one is a volume and the other is a weight so it all depends what material you are considering and at what temperature and pressure, particularly in the case of liquids or gases. A litre of mercury?

If it’s any consolation to your wife, they don’t wriggle but run and as I say, surprisingly fast until they find a dark place.

If you buy live ones by post they come with crumpled newspaper in a sack and you have very carefully un-scrumple the paper to find the hiding ones without flicking them all over the place. I’m sure your wife would find it great fun. Very easy pets to keep, just some bran and lettuce leaves.

No such thing as a conversion of litres to gramms ? Now I'm left wondering why that calculation can be found on several websites. Here's a different one .https://metric-calculator.com/convert-liter-to-gram.htm

There is no way my wife will have bought or home-grown meal worms.. not even the non-wriggling variety...lol....As for keeping them as pets she's more into Retrievers and cats :D

However, I do appreciate your well-meaning suggestions and all for a good cause. ie a more nourishing (and realistic) feed for our garden birds... :)

I’m sure you will have noticed that your original link (and probably the others) specifies “water” though neglects to add the temperature and pressure though in practice that is unlikely to be important where you are.

At 2213 we have an RAF A400M flying in circles over our house at only 7600ft. It's come from Birmingham.

WBMT?
Actually yesterday now.
I had need to get a taxi from and to the same location.
Its seems its 50p cheaper from there to home, than from home to there. (same route)
And almost a quid dearer than it was back in mid Jan.

People who do things they know they shouldn't.

Yesterday someone was flying a drone along the cliffs a bit north of the RSPB visitor's centre at South Stack. The staff sorted it out quickly and stopped it. To me it was obvious the bloke knew he should not be flying one(sitting in a position that was not easily visible) there.

There are plenty of cliffs around at are not in the reserve so why choose a place where you are going to get stopped?

Talking about fares. Today, after mulling it over for a couple of weeks, my wife decided to meet up with two friends in London to go to the V&A museum where they have an exhibition of Fabergé items for a limited time. I wouldn't mind seeing them myself..fabulous stuff. She's been concerned about the latest high contagion variant of Omicron re the train journey from here to Paddington (GWR) and then the Tube. She really wants to go so, today, I suggested she travel first class (much fewer passengers than Standard) to Paddington and get a taxi. Apparently, it's just an 8 minute journey. So..she's going to do that. She now has her online ticket which she paid £79 return via GWR but through National Rail (I think) it's £116 !

It is a 1.6 mile, 32 minute walk from Paddington to V&A. Through Hyde Park, if she is mobile enough.

Double glazing salesmen are branching out ;)
Knock on the door,
New windows sir?
No thank you.
How about having your drive re-concreted?

I guess it beats I've been working on the motorway and have a few yards
of tarmac left over, I can do you a good deal :D

We had a guy round trying to sell us a tarmac driveway the day the contractors were just finishing off block paving it. He obviously didn't think much of it.......

WBMT is the premium some sellers are asking for the recently released Swatch/Omega watches. Have to admit that I quite fancy one of the blue ones but only because I have a Speedmaster Triumph. I'd happily pay the retail price for one but no way would I spring the 10x premium a couple of people are wanting!

The day after I said this to a Traveller-type who rang the doorbell I found a shovel-full of cement under each rear wheel of my car. My neighbour,a builder, said I was lucky it had been frosty overnight and it didn't harden-off.

The Traveller said they were doing a job in the area and had tarmac left over if I wanted the perfectly good block-paved drive doing. I asked him whoever was in charge of assessing the amount of tarmac needed for a job needs to leave it to someone else who knows what they're doing. "me dad does that" :D

They drive round here very slowly..15-20 mph in dirty transit vans looking at houses. I noted the number of the last one and along with a description of the driver and passenger put it on an online police information form. Amazingly, I got a reply thanking me and telling me that it matched with an incident in the Tuffley area they were investigating.

Lucky indeed, they obviously had a "bit left over" from a previous job :D

Blimey, they slipped up, when ever there has been an incident involving "Transits" the number plates don't exist, or "match" something totally unrelated.
Such as a bus.

I have been tracking a parcel from Olympus in Germany and it has made to their Stanford Le Hope centre in Essex....on the surmise it gets into their hub and delivery depot during the next 8 hours......so should be ok for delivery today 5th as projected.

However, I have had what they call an exception notification of a one business day delay........due to Eurotunnel issues. I have no idea how unless the tracking is wrong and it is actually still on a truck in France as why the exception was advised with that reason

If you ever get asked a similar question, just say you are renting and apologise that you can’t give them any work.
Works for double glazing salesmen as well!

Yes, my brother used alway to say “you must get in touch with my landlord” — on spam phone calls too — but only after wasting their time ;).

My father used to tell spam phone callers he was busy making a cup of tea and needed to put the phone down & go & turn his kettle off. Then he would return to whatever he was doing before the call interrupted him, reading the paper, watching TV, whatever..........

I used to stick the phone under a cushion and leave it till I needed to use the phone myself.
