WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I have received a reply to my FB complaint about the noisy car/bike. In another post, she maintains that modern bikes cannot be rdden at low revs :ROFLMAO: Tell that to the officer madam.

"Ok, I don’t usually bother replying to complaints because too many trolls tend to jump in, but I feel I need to this time, as the person in question is possibly my son-in-law.
Sadly, he has to go to work at this time of the morning and he cannot make his bike any quieter than it is. He even changed the exhaust for a silencer as you think this one is loud, you would have heard him coming from London with the original! He is not a boy racer, as you’ve made him out to be. The bike has a lot of power, and at that time of day sound carries.
I hear the HGVs thundering down Sundridge, emergency service sirens, the milkman rattling his bottles, and of course the freight trains which are close by. Noise happens it’s life.
This village seems determined to find something to complain about every day pavement parking, parents taking kids to school, the co op not being open, dog mess, kids making noise, someone having a party… At this rate, I suppose the next complaint will be about someone daring to water their garden at the wrong time of day honestly, that’s the level of nonsense we’re at .. it’s that absurd.
Other than asking him to push his bike out of the village, I don’t see what more can be done. Noise carries early in the morning, and he’s simply trying to get to work. I apologise for the disturbance, but really, some perspective is needed. If you have a problem inbox me"

Sounds like that woman is typical of some people nowadays, she is saying that dog mess on pavements is ok for example
I ride a bike and can indeed confirm that it isn’t necessary to rev the crap out of the bike to ride through a village, in fact high revs before an engine is warm can damage it

What annoys me every time I see it, are learner drivers who are driving at 15-20mph and sit at junctions far longer than is necessary. Even more annoying, Muslim females wearing the niqab, the garment that covers the face and has slits in the cloth so they can see but restricts peripheral view. It could even be the burqa, the full body covering.

It also annoys me when the instructor allows pupils to stop across our driveway so he can have a chat with them.

I think leaner drivers should be confined to somewhere like a disused airfield until they are competent enough not to cause problems to road users.
Agree that parking across someones driveway is not on and instructor’s allowing pupils to do that is not training them properly
I do think that people have to learn to drive on the road but when someone starts learning maybe its a good idea to take them out when the road isn’t so busy

I have now been told that modern bikes cannot be ridden at low revs, particularly the powerful ones and that I am an ex biker who rode "relics". I would hardly call a GPz 900R a relic :ROFLMAO:

In the last few weeks I've had two learners fail to give way to me when there were parked on their side of the road and this was the same instructor both times.
Yesterday I nearly had an accident when yet another learner failed to give way to me on a roundabout.
I shooked my head at the instructors and they knew their pupils were in the wrong.
Pointless having dual control if they are not paying attention.
The standard of driving has taken a massive tumble.
Drivers thinking indicators are an optional extra and morons on roundabouts lacking the ability to be in the correct lane is a regular occurrence here.

I called at the solicitors today to return documents not meant for me and for the first time since I've been dealing with them no one was available to come out and see me and I was asked to leave them at reception. Of course they could have all been genuinely busy but I have to say that this would be the first time in the last two years and after multiple visits so it does look as if some people were too embarrassed to come to reception :D

I used to work for solicitors firms fo thirty years, that is not good simply from a confidentiality point of view.

Andy. This is about the FB reply re the noisy motorcycle. As I was writing it other posts came in between and, having seen that after posting , I was unable to quote into an 'edited' post. It started a new one which I deleted.

Amazing. I had to smile that she saw your FB complaint. How about she just says to you who she is and she'll have a word with him. If he had an exhaust even louder on his previous motorbike then he obviously likes to have a "throaty" bike. I know next to nothing about motorbikes but I do recall that when I were a lad..lol.. youngsters would take a couple of exhaust baffles out. Maybe mortorbikes don't have baffles any more.

As for her other comments. Parking on footpaths. She obviously isn't disabled nor has a mobility scooter, she's not blind or partially-sighted. Mums with pushchairs have a problem, too. Parents taking their children to school and who park half-on the footpath cause real problems and even more so when they park of the safety yellow zig-zags. Other driver won't be able to see small children about to cross the road. These issues, ,along with pavement parking in general, is one of the most common complaints re traffic. Then she does what stupid people do and come up with something like watering the garden at the wrong time of day to try and make a point about vexatious complaints.

Fair play to her, though. She has apologised. From what you've described I'd say that the lad could do something about it.

Have a look at this,Andy . Put the registration number into the box re MOT..Insurance,too,I think. https://www.aviva.co.uk/insurance/motor/car-insurance/mot-checker/

This video just makes me glad I don't like riding motorbikes. For me, they're just too vulnerable. It's about noisy exhausts and compliance.

I found this Youtube video. They're being ridden hard. My guess is that if that lad rode away from home slowly until he got on the main road or, at least, away from your residential area you and,I assume, other neighbours, wouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for those videos John. As an aside, I never fitted performace exhausts to my bikes, because I figured that the manufacturers knew what they were doing and the Kent police were quite hot on their bike policing. I used to go to bike shows, but I didn't do group riding and I didn't show off. Regarding the MiL's comments about you can't ride slowly at low revs on a modern bike, she must be on something seriously mind altering. I remember one trip back from work in London to Maidstone on the M20 in the snow, doing the whole trip on my Bonneville at less than 15mph, following one tyre track fom the cars. That certainly made me concentrate.
The good news is, that there wasn't any noise yesterday or today, so we will keep our fingers crossed.

I ordered two Samsung USB chargers but what was delivered was two Chinese copies. Not happy. Going straight back. I'm not taking the chance of these knock offs burning the house down. Damn you for wasting my time Amazon.

I had a similar thing with a seller on ebay last year...... the photos showed a genuine Samsung charger but what got delivered were Chinese copies.....When I compared them side by side with a genuine Samsung one i could spot the differences...

Same thing in my case, the Amazon page was very clear that these were Samsung but sadly they are not.

That’s disappointing that Amazon would do that, expect it from ebay but expect better from Amazon

Was the item "SOLD" by Amazon or "DISPATCHED" by Amazon?

Sure I have read that Amazon have "bins" for each bit of kit, Samsung chargers in this case, the items sourced by Amazon and the Amazon sellers go into the same bin. That, I believe, is the explanation for the kit sold by Amazon themselves is sometimes dodgy. Could be wrong though :)

Just taxed my car.
I have no intention of selling, so it does not matter to me, but why cant you transfer the tax if you sell it? Surely you're paying tax for the actual vehicle, not the owner.
I'm sure you used to be able to sell cars etc with tax left on it.

Yes I recall selling cars with tax remaining on them.

It may be a way to confirm the vehicle has valid insurance and MOT with the new owner.

I took it to mean that any tax left was not transferred. I may be wrong?

You could, until 2014, at which point the tax became non transferable.

However, unused tax time is refundable. More here...

What always strikes me is when people talk about their photos as their work and that's just not how I see it and if I did I'd probably realise I wasn't enjoying it and stop. Photography IMO should be a pleasure, a labour of love, never "work." As always good luck to those who see this as work.

I probably view all the things I do with intent as work, whether playing in a band, taking pictures, preparing a meal or actually doing my job. Work is good for us, gives purpose tylife and value to activity.

Of course if you hate work then it may be helpful to view unpaid tasks differently.

I don't work :D When I did I put a lot of hours and effort in and I mostly enjoyed it but it was in the end something I had to do. I was just lucky to be able to make a living by doing something I enjoyed but I was making a living. Things I do exclusively for the enjoyment or to help someone else even if it becomes all time consuming are different and I could never view photography as work, ditto long walks, my exercise routine, listening to music, cooking, just sitting in nature or charity "work". These are all joys. In the unlikely event that a collection of my photos became a big thing and somehow earned me money I would never view it as a body of work, it'd be a collection of moments and memories. Any money aspect wouldn't affect what I photographed or why. Money would be a by-product, sort of like being given a box of chocolates out of the blue.

I can't imagine changing my photography because I needed money. In fact I watched a Youtube vid yesterday and the guy was talking about about how to build up a portfolio and what sells. That sounds like work to me. Taking a picture because I want to record something that matters to me isn't work.

Anyway. sorry to derail the thread :D

People with lanyards and clipboards who ring your bell and then walk away after 5 seconds. I don't really want to see a lanyard wearing clipboard carrier when I open the door but perhaps seeing the one who's rang the bell could be better than opening the door and seeing no one there and spotting them at next doors or marching down the road.

Sell it at months end?

I always try to buy and sell (or trade in) vehicles so as little as possible extra tax is paid. I don't mind a day or 2 but object to much over a week!

Tech often annoys me.

I bought a cheap Chinese no name I'd heard of tablet a couple of years ago and the touch screen has gone faulty, fair enough, it was cheap and I got over two years out of it. I ordered a Samsung this time and it was a PITA to setup but it's all working now apart from two things and one of these things is the main reason for buying it. I use a tablet to monitor the cameras outside and I usually just leave it on pretty much 24/7 but this Samsung times out and pauses the streaming. It'll just be a setting somewhere but I just can't find it. There are vids on Youtube showing you how to disable this and I've watched a few but of course despite being for my exact make and model the set up options are different and I get to a point at which the option they're diving into in the vid just doesn't exist. Grrrr. I suppose I'll find it eventually but fighting this sort of thing is a PITA.

Also when I got to the checkout at ASDA the points app asked me to sign in and there just wasn't time to even if I could have remembered the password. When I got home and found and typed in the password the app said that this could have been because of a security update. I do wish ASDA would just have a loyalty card like Tesco.

You have to put a 'Stay Awake' app onto it, I had to do it with my tablet to stop it going off. Seemingly this is the only way to stop it.

There is no stay awake option that I can see although third party apps exist. One of the vids pointed me at this option supposedly on the exact tablet I have but my Settings screen is different and doesn't include the option so if that is the answer I'd have to go for the 3rd party app. I'd be surprised if that is the issue as the screen doesn't go blank or even dim, it just pauses the live stream until I tap the screen. PITA. I googled the message and there are replies which I just don't understand, something to do with IP's, DDNS's and that sort of thing. I have no idea what setting like that should be. My phone runs the app no problem as does my cheap faulty Chinese tablet and the low spec Samsung I had years ago also ran the app with no problem at all. I still think it's a set up issue of some sort but why this new device has an issue when nothing else I've downloaded this app onto does I have no idea.

I think I'll call in to my local computer repair place and see if they have any idea. I've spent hours and hours on this and I'm mega p'd off. At the mo I'm using my old faulty tablet and it's been up and running the app non stop for days now, no issue at all except for the faulty touch screen. Or I might give up and send it back... but I can't do that as I need something to run the CCTV app. What a waste of my time this has been.

PS.
Just to cross this off the list I downloaded an app and it made no difference, it still paused the stream.

Yesterday...

Received a text from the hospital telling me I have an appointment at a particular time/day. No idea who sent it, who it's with, or what department (due to my kidney disease I'm under renal, cardiac and nephrology). Called the hospital, they don't know who sent it or why - they have no record of it. Luckily (?) I had to visit the hospital today, and the renal team found out what is all about. Bloody ridiculous. No wonder the NHS is in a mess.

Sorry you went through this but lets be honest, it's no big surprise. Throwing ever more money at the NHS maybe isn't the answer.

It never was the answer, all that happens is that the administration staff numbers get bigger and bigger. Not just my opinion, it's that of a surgeon I met about a year ago who was prepared to be honest.

Our politicians seem to measure the potential success of the NHS by how much money they throw at it. I've said many times on here that this is a very poor metric to use.
