WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Well last evening...Amazon delivery... delayed... delayed again... delayed again..... 7.21 p.m. delivered...... not to me it wasn't. Checked with the neighbours (as instructed by Amazon bot) and three of us are in the same boat. Amazon van did deliver earlier, to one house in the cul de sac at my delivery time but they only got one parcel and it was theirs!!!

Which ‘chain’ did you buy from?

Just an ebay seller. By chain I meant that although they were selling it as new and sealed whoever they got it from might have been the one to reseal it.

It did play ok with no problems but that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't new and sealed, it's used and resealed. Actually if this was done by one of those companies that do buy and resell old DVD's I can't believe it passed any sort of inspection as as soon as you look at the playing surface the scratches are obvious.

Hope you gave the appropriate feedback to warn others.

I haven't yet but as above I can't be sure that the seller is guilty of anything here. I might send them a message rather than post a negative review visible to everyone.

Actually, just looked at the seller and all they sell is DVD's so an appropriate negative review and one star rating has been left.

Just drove through Woodseats, Sheffield. A road sign advising you were crossing a "Weak Bridge".
What are you supposed to do with that information? Hold your breath?
Make passengers get out and walk?

Pray that you don't meet an HGV coming the other way!

WAMT? Walking across a road that's a one way street and nearly getting run over by an idiot that completely ignored the "No Entry" signs....

Had similar the other day crossing a one way road by a cyclist going the wrong way, he was going very fast too

Cancer (of the bowel variety)

The good news is that it's operable.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you get it sorted PDQ.

Sorry to hear, but good news it operable. My mum had it quite recently and they used that robotic surgery thing, amazingly advanced stuff. She was 79 at the time and is a hypochondriac and she came through it all fine, so I'm sure you'll breeze through it. Good luck with the surgery and also with the post-biopsy results.

Thanks Graham. Not sure about robotics, but they said it would be keyhole so hopefully a quick recovery time.
Hope all goes well, Marc.

Thanks Dave

All the best Marc.

This amazed and annoyed me and TBH made me a little bit worried...

Mrs WW is in Thailand looking after her mam. We talk on Whatsapp every day and we sometimes send each other links to funny or interesting videos, news reports and songs we've seen on line and want to share and talk about and one thing I came across yesterday was a satirical song having a pop at the UK govt, the subject matter was no real surprise as satire sometimes does have politics in its crosshairs and it did make me laugh. The strange thing is that when Mrs WW clicked on the link in Thailand what she saw was a completely different thing. No longer was it an in English satirical song having a pop at the UK govt, the headline and thumbnail were the same but the song was in Thai, it was a completely different song and with a completely different video. The link looked right as did the thumbnail but the content was replaced.

I couldn't understand what was happening at first. I got around it by talking to her on my tablet and calling the link up on my phone and holding it up to my tablet camera for her to watch and hear. Restricting content to certain countries I can understand, I don't like it but I understand but switching content / switching the link to go somewhere different? That all seems a bit sinister and a bit of a step too far. I wouldn't be surprised to get a visit from the police because I've tried to share something not illegal but offensive to the gov. We can't have people laughing at the gov can we? Actually I can't be sure who is behind this, the UK? Big Tech? Thailand? I don't think it's Thailand, I think I'd be more tempted to believe the UK or Big Tech.

I've never seen this before but TBH I don't think I'll try anything else like it just in case this isn't a restricted to certain market countries thing and is more a Big Brother thing as I don't want end up in court. If this is Big Bro... What awful times we live in. BTW this particular link has had many many views but I wonder how many people are seeing something different?

I might be a little concerned because of Thailand's lese majeste laws.

Christmas anytime you like!!
Some people seem to welcome the opportunity to purchase things like that, well ahead of time.

There are several all year round Christmas shops, like this place...

There’s never an Easter egg when you want one is there? :)

I might be a little concerned because of Thailand's lese majeste laws.

The linked video and song is obviously British, its in English and full of recognisable people and English tropes like red double decker busses etc so I can't see that being an issue in Thailand and other similar vids I've linked have not been affected. I can't really see why this one should be any different but I think this is probably just the world we live in now. I think it's possibly down to an algorithm hitting or missing things or potentially some human intervention if something isn't caught by the algorithm but proves popular and catches someone's eye. This particular one has had a lot of views and a lot of likes so I think it's possible that it's come to some humans attention and got special treatment.

I/we have had things blocked before as not visible from your country but I've never seen content replaced like this before.

I wonder if the link has a country-sensitive algorithm serving 'relevant' videos.

At the Wooley turnoff of the M1, junc 38 (i think) there is a narrow, arched bridge over the road., it has a priority over oncoming vehicles sign.
W1000015422.jpg

As I approached, I had to wait as several vehicles 'tailgated' through towards me.
After visiting my customer I came back through in the opposite direction, where I was presented with the same sign. WTF? Well done Barnsley council.

Not strictly today - but within the last 24 hours... ScotRail. Headed in to Edinburgh for a festival gig... Think "I'll do the right thing, and not take the car into the city centre"

Train from the station was on time when I boarded for an 11 minute (timetabled) 2-stoo journey.

Noticed that the screens at the station were all suggesting using the train to go see ACDC this evening, because it would be more reliable & better for the planet.

Simultaneously noticed the website was mentioning an earlier electrical fault causing delays (many hours later). Presumably High Voltage :coat:

Off we roll, next station on time - woot.

Then we stop. For 45 minutes. Explanation zero. Just the on train announcement that "we're held here at the signal and we'll move on as soon as we can". Eventually we limped in to Waverley 45 minutes late in an 11 minute journey.

Ran to the gig (last time I ran was in July 1995 - for the last bus at about 0230) across the Old Town (so much up & down & steps involved plus sidestepping flyerers & the like) arrived needing an iron lung, thankfully just in time to catch the gig.

After the gig, walked back to Waverley to find the train back cancelled. Next one 30 minutes.

Platform is announced for the 2143 departure. Head to the platform. Incoming train due to arrive at 2113. It's now 2118. No sign. Check website - now due 2119. Now 2125. Still no train. Website claims train arrived at the platform I'm waiting at, at 2118. Now 2142. Platform change for the 2143 departure. By this time there's a trainful of people waiting at the wrong platform that's a 2 min walk away...

Then they wonder why people don't take public transport.

I don't know enough about all this but I do think it's all a bit heavy handed and unnecessary and even more unnecessary is that these days you can apparently go to prison for a joke or meme or for criticising the establishment. As above, I've never seen an example of content being replaced or redirected to something completely different before. If it didn't seem so IMO sinister I'd probably think all this did belong in a Monty Python sketch.

I've had trains just not turn up with no announcement before and asked staff and been told it'd been cancelled and had to run out of the station and get in a taxi. Shambles seems an appropriate way to describe the railways at times. Can't remember what happened with refunds though. I suppose I got them eventually.

Bloody Couriers ……from now on I'm only dealing with Royal Mail

Got woken up at around 04:30 this morning, to the sound of someone enthusiastically revving the nuts of a car/bike with a sports exhaust. They then did a rallycross type start to their journey. This has been going on for a while now and it coincides with me having an Internal Loop Recorder fitted, so I am finding it difficult to sleep as my left side is a bit sore and I have been notified of some possible "episodes" with fluctuating heart beats.
Why are some people so selfish?

There was a phone-in on LBC Radio just a few days ago and about the same thing but on trains. Selfishness, a lack of awareness, no consideration or simply people who just don't care about other peoples' well being. Quite a few calls came in telling of people having conversations with the speaker-phone activated. I also read about a women in a café who ordered her sandwich and cuppa for lunch ,opened her tablet and held a 30 minute office meeting, also with the speaker on. The owner should have told her she can't do that and if she insisted and I'd been the café owner I'd have taken her sandwich and tea away, refunded her money and told her to leave. If she refused then call the police because owners of businesses have the right to refuse entry or the right to ask people to leave.

As for your question..why ? I think in some cases it's just attention-seeking , being oblivious but mainly a "I don't give a [whatever] about anyone else,I'll do what I want to do.". It can get worse.".and don't anyone try to stop me". People are worried about knives these days so are reluctant to intervene in situations like this. It's down to the rail companies to clamp down on it. British Transport police should be more visible on trains. Just like drink/driving and smoking in public places, leaving dog-poo on pavements and in parks etc...it becomes anti-social. I appreciate those things are backed by law but people comply and not to do so is considered anti-social. Once again, these are private companies and they have the right to eject people from their trains. It was many years ago when I lived in Germany but two young lads ..about 14 years of age, got on the tram into Frankfurt city centre from the outskirts and put their feet up on the seat opposite. A male passenger took umbrage to this and verbally laid into them. They immediately took their feet off the seat and looked very sheepish .When Germans ,especially men, shout, it's very intimidating.

This isn't a trivial matter because it can lead to serious disorder, assault and worse. I was surprised to find this discussion in relation to Singapore of all places. I thought anti-social behaviour wasn't tolerated there. They say it's one of the cleanest places in the world to visit. Order is the order of the day.

Now that is seriously weird.

A very similar thing happened to me on a train from Innsbruck to Kufstein, something like forty years ago. My wife and I found a compartment with two seats vacant and an older teenager had his feet on one of them. I just sat on his legs. One of his companions gave him a strong dose of lambast until he got up (I didn't get off his legs until he said "bitte, bitte") and slouched out of the compartment. His companions were at pains to apologise for him and they all got off at the next station. The last I saw of them was what appeared to be "a full and frank exchange of views" on the platform.

In all my visits to Austria, that was the only time I encountered rudeness of any kind.

Went to my solicitor today to pick up some documents. Reception was full of people so I didn't hang about, I just accepted the documents and headed out. It was only when I got home that I realised that of the 6 documents enclosed in the large envelope only one was for me. I haven't looked too closely at the others but they are certainly meant for someone else and possibly for two someone elses. So, now I have to trudge back another day and I suppose my documents are Gosh knows where and will probably never be seen again.

Never trust anyone! Always check everything!

Learner drivers out during rush hour who are clearly not ready for rush hour.

What annoys me every time I see it, are learner drivers who are driving at 15-20mph and sit at junctions far longer than is necessary. Even more annoying, Muslim females wearing the niqab, the garment that covers the face and has slits in the cloth so they can see but restricts peripheral view. It could even be the burqa, the full body covering.

It also annoys me when the instructor allows pupils to stop across our driveway so he can have a chat with them.

I think leaner drivers should be confined to somewhere like a disused airfield until they are competent enough not to cause problems to road users.

I have received a reply to my FB complaint about the noisy car/bike. In another post, she maintains that modern bikes cannot be rdden at low revs :ROFLMAO: Tell that to the officer madam.

"Ok, I don’t usually bother replying to complaints because too many trolls tend to jump in, but I feel I need to this time, as the person in question is possibly my son-in-law.
Sadly, he has to go to work at this time of the morning and he cannot make his bike any quieter than it is. He even changed the exhaust for a silencer as you think this one is loud, you would have heard him coming from London with the original! He is not a boy racer, as you’ve made him out to be. The bike has a lot of power, and at that time of day sound carries.
I hear the HGVs thundering down Sundridge, emergency service sirens, the milkman rattling his bottles, and of course the freight trains which are close by. Noise happens it’s life.
This village seems determined to find something to complain about every day pavement parking, parents taking kids to school, the co op not being open, dog mess, kids making noise, someone having a party… At this rate, I suppose the next complaint will be about someone daring to water their garden at the wrong time of day honestly, that’s the level of nonsense we’re at .. it’s that absurd.
Other than asking him to push his bike out of the village, I don’t see what more can be done. Noise carries early in the morning, and he’s simply trying to get to work. I apologise for the disturbance, but really, some perspective is needed. If you have a problem inbox me"
