WAMT....what annoyed me today!

The Alpen No Added Sugar seems to be one to avoid as far as salt goes as well:

At 0.28% salt it's massively higher than my Waitrose Nutty Muesli offering at 0.03%.

Aye, I can't remember why I suddenly became aware specifically of my salt intake, I think it may have been when I got one of those blood pressure devices for my mum and tried it out on myself and it was little high, so it got me investigating. I started tracking my blood pressure daily and it's amazing how fast it dropped when I reduced my salt intake.

I'd often joked in the past about how much importance I'd put on the oil and fluids going into my car compared to what was going in me, probably because I have quite a fast metabolism. But that was probably quite arrogant of me to think that there still wasn't damage being done inside.

WAMT?
God damn pigeon in my garage! Must have flown through the open door while I was out the front. Bloody things, vermin.

Evri on eBay again

bought some terracotta pots for some live rooted plants on 1st
delivery due today 4th
now Evri says delayed till 8th

the seller says
''...ebay make it difficult and the small seller gets the flak. They are now bringing DHL and yodel on board as well. Will soon not bother..''

so now you have DHL and YODEL to add to the delays......Amazon PRIME 1-day beckons.... :headbang:

yesterday. at Kew the Music. Went to the bar for a beer. Begrudged paying £7.25 for a pint of Estrella Damm. But the price on the board is not what you pay. £2 extra for a plastic 'glass' - non-refundable. Wouldn't have minded if I could take it back and get £2 back but I didn't want to be stuck with what is essentially already used plastic trash that I paid £2 for....

Good job I took some water with me....

I rarely drink beer now primarily to reduce my calory intake so normally choose water. I usually play the game and order bottled water which costs just over £2. Last week at a local pub, they charged me £3.50! So I have stopped playing the game and my most recent visit for lunch I insisted on tap water for which they have to supply free for anyone eating lunch. To be honest, I prefer our local tap water to most of the bottled water.

Peckham Spring Water? :)

Bottled water is generally more expensive than Diesel... I usually have a bottle of the highly concentrated Robinson's squash in the car to give tap water a less unpleasant taste.

NEVER drink pecker water.

@Dave Canon ''...To be honest, I prefer our local tap water to most of the bottled water...''

and -- tap water has to meet MUCH more stringent safety parameters than any bottled water

Thirty odd years ago, a friend of mine (who was a chemist with Southern Water) advised me never to drink the local tap water 'I know what's in it'. Ever since then I've only ever drank filtered, boiled or bottled water.

It appears to have worked, because I'm still the same sex as I was when I was born . . .

We have a filtered tap for drinking and cooking water.

Now Broadband..... :headbang:

Renewed my contract with them earlier this year after negotiating a better price, but then within 6 weeks of renewing was notified that my payment was being increased..... they did of course mention I would be able to cancel without penalty within 28 days of notification..... and that's just what I did..... I've now switched to Mobile Broadband.....

Was given a cancellation and disconnection date of 20/6/25 and was told as it was midway through my billing cycle I will receive a partial refund.... Checked on my next billing date and sure enough it showed a £12 credit...... checking into it, their website it informed me it should reach my bank account within 5 working days....

10 days on and no sign of my refund so I called them to ask where my refund is....... The CS rep I talked to explained it would normally be another billing cycle before that refund was sent out and I should receive it in August........ After telling him I was not happy with that answer he agreed to initiate the refund manually and I should expect it being in my account within 5 days!!!

I have just visited the IOW but did not see any red squirrels; I hope you have not turned grey.

AliExpress.

Overall I find their service better than Amazon and ebay certainly when sending stuff back but Chinese quality is a lottery and they have a habit of lying in the product descriptions. I've just received a watch which was described as "automatic self winding" and "mechanical" but it's clearly quartz so it's going straight back.

I went grey many years ago. ;)

It's a shame you didn't see any reds as they're very common over here - there are no greys at all thankfully.

Paying bills! For goodness sake. I dont think companies want you to pay. Trying to pay two bill online has taken me nearly an hour. You have to log into the bill account, then it send you a text message, but as my mobile signal isnt great this often times out before I get the text.
Do this a few times, then it sends you an email link to click to varify it's me (they've just sent me texts) then the bank want to check it's me (which is fair enough) but I dont get why someone I'm paying needs so many time, I'm paying them not accessing any details.
Then you do it all over again with company two.
One of them I'm tempted to not pay next time and let them chase me. If they want it that badly make it easy to pay.

You can set up a direct debit which is fine for regular fixed bills. I certainly do this for water, Council tax, mobile phone, Virgin media and Adobe; never had a problem with any of them yet in respect of bills. However, I do manually pay my credit card bill so I can check them but they try to persuade me to set up an open direct debit and trust them to take the correct amount. Eventually, I will probably be beaten down and agree to this but not yet.

Just set up a DD for the min payment, that way if you forget to pay for any reason or are late, you wont get a late pay flag!

Roofing contractors thinking that it's OK to start stripping a roof at 7.00AM on a nearby house...... they also thought it was a good idea to drop the old slates from the scaffolding down into their Transit pick-up......

Before I retired I worked shifts and noisy builders often woke me up when I was sleeping after working nights... :headbang:

The BBC article on using donor eggs to provide functional mitochondria for parents were the mum has defective mitochondria. The first section read like it had been written by a child (or AI).

Amazon delivery drivers, not all, just the few who decide to put my parcel right behind the bin without even knocking. Tw&%*s

I’ve just had a similar thing with an insurance company pay out. They’ve had all the info they requested for over 9 days but I’ve had to constantly chase them for payment. Finally I got a response yesterday: it was authorised the day before and will take up to 5 working days to reach your account. I’ve never understood how that works. When I do a bank transfer the money is transferred virtually instantly. I suspect what it actually means is “our accounts office will sit on the payment for as long as possible before finally sorting it out”.

For the second day in a row the roofers were at it again just after 7.00AM..... watched 3 of them stood on top of the scaffolding dropping tiles down onto the pick-up :headbang:

It's not so much "what annoyed me" as "what absolutely astonished me". I'm talking about lithium ion batteries used, in this case, in digital cameras.
My local post office is very keen on warnings about the proper packaging of these batteries in parcels emphasising strongly the need for them to be in the device such as camera bodies
in this instant.
I came across a discussion on the web the other day as to whether such batteries inserted in chargers would be OK to post as they would be "inside an electronic device".
As I'm about to sell my Sony A7ii body I thought I'd test this by taking my 3rd party charger together with 2 batteries that had been sitting in it for some time to the PO for their views.

I must emphasise that the 2 batteries, one being an official Sony battery, the other being a 3rd party battery were inserted in the charger that was not plugged in and in fact did not
even have a cable attached. The charger had been in that state for about 4 days since charging. I picked up the charger and had to immediately drop it because of the intense heat coming from it. It turns out that the Sony battery was cool but the 3rd party battery was extremely hot.

Once I'd recovered from that shock I took the charger with only the Sony battery inserted to the PO and they confirmed that it would be acceptable in that state for posting.
I said nothing about the 3rd party battery.

I've noticed that some batteries discharge if left in a charger not connected to the mains. I will always remove any battery from a charger after charging - it may be in this case that the Sony has some clever ciruitry to prevent discharge when not in a camera.

Yep. Still no wages paid. John West and Thai Union have put out a statement distancing them from the club.
It seens apparent that the family have cut D Chansiri off.
He has been propping the club up by £2 mill per mth. Why he doesn't sell is a mystery.
The shop and merchandising are a joke. Massive fan base but shop has little anyone wants to buy.
It does not bode well for next months wages and when HMRC comes knocking.
Administration and demotion looks a certainly, with xfer embargo, squad limited to 23 and possible points deduction.
Needless to say, the EFL have been useless throughout.
Been reading that the situation looks even worse now with one stand possibly being denied a safety certificate
Coupled with players leaving because of non payment of wages for two months.
Presumably its going to be a struggle to field a competitive team with the existing transfer embargo.
Not a nice situation to be in as a supporter, I have some experience of it over recent years with the O's

We were taken over by a lunatic Italian who took us from losing Div One play off finalists to a winding up order in the National League.
Thankfully saved at the last minute and returned after five seasons to being losing Div One play off finalists again.
Hope your club finds similar suitable owners, but be prepared for a long hard journey until then.

We have just been taken over again by an American conglomerate, hope it goes a bit better this time.

Cheers mate, much appreciated. Weve sold or lost our top 6 goalscorers from last year, all in the last 5 days.
Safety certificate decision kicked forward to next week.
Looks like mgr Danny Rohl is off. Goalkeeping coach gone. God knows who else behind the scenes.
The new strip came out 2 days ago £72 a shirt, macrons cheapest type.
I can really see us going to the wall.
Still some interested parties apparently, the idiot owner is impossible to do business with though.

Eon have done it again. Back in June posted about Eon wanting to install a smart meter from back in late last year but either saying there were no available slots or cancelling at the last minute.

After a cancellation in June they suggested today between 2pm and 4pm. About 3:40 Mrs T got a text saying they were sorry they would have to cancel the installation due to staff being unavailable! However, its another £40 they are going to credit us - not bad we've had £120 from them this year(so far).

I had this a couple of years ago, prior to that they always told me that my property was unsuitable for a smart meter, but they did let me have the the fixed tariffs
Then my economy7 night tariff died, no heat and no hot water in February. They said it was probably my appliances, night storage heater and immersion, and I needed to get an electrician to check it.
First one I spoke to said that no way would any domestic electrician touch a meter.
Back to Eon Next and they agreed to send someone out 5 days later. In the meantime the night rate came on intermittently during the day or night, the timer dial part was sticking
Half an hour before the engineer was due I check d online and the appt had been cancelled !!!
Rang them to ask what was going on and was told once again I couldn't have a smart meter, I stood my ground and told them to cancel my contract, was told couldn't because I was 3 months in a new fixed deal and if I did it would cost me £75. Replied that they were to ones breaking the contract by not supplying me the electricity they were contracted too and I would sue them.
Strange how suddenly they could sort it and 2 hours later an engineer turned and took 30 mins to change the meter
I got £40 compensation and I must admit that so far things have run smoothly, except for their app, which someone keeps fiddling with and breaks every few weeks.
It's great not to have to send in readings every month and be able to keep an eye on usage. only

God damn pigeon in my garage! Must have flown through the open door while I was out the front. Bloody things, vermin.
I’ve had the same happen with neighbours cats, one came out at a fair rate o knots after being locked in for a week one winter, neighbour asked “don’t you check before locking up” I had to tell him my dog had more sense, he was not impressed, me, didn’t care.

Thanks, Ingrid. Eon do look like a right shower.

To be honest a lot depends on who you speak to,
I've had the same conversation with 2 different people in the past with different results, you just have to stand your ground on occasions.
Been with for quite a while since they took over my previous supplier, Npower, and not really had any problems except the smart meter thing, which they seem not to want to install them

WAM This week!

1st the microwave packed up, with a bang.

Breadmaker would not switch on, dead.

Halogen oven bulb blew, couldn't get the screws to undo, mind it is 8 years old.

Three appliances changed, £600.00 the poorer.

Do you feel sorry for me??

UPS

Parcel due to be delivered this morning, after lunch said it would come by end of day.

Update at 18:05 to say could not get a reply at 17:55 to deliver, there was never a UPS van in the street, never mind a delivery attempt. There was 2 people and a dog in at the time, so if he had knocked/rang bell the dog would've told us immediately. But the dog never reacted, so never came near!

Why can't they just say they had more parcels than they could deliver today, and say it's coming tomorrow, instead of lying.

At least Amazon are honest when they miss the delivery.

Once had similar from the PO. The PO online tracker gave me a time for delivery. When it did not arrive I checked again and the tracker said they were unable to deliver because they could not access the address. We live in a small terraced house with an open front garden and the front door is about ten steps from the footpath.
