WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I never allow auto-renewal for anything.
The trouble with that is, there is never an easy opt out option. You have to phone up to do it.

Sorry you are going through this, I can share your pain as I am having much the same problems.

I'm off to see a solicitor tomorrow. Didn't sleep at all last night, had 4 days of hell.

Hopefully I can begin to see a way forward tomorrow.

Hope your problems can soon be over too.

I wonder how much car insurance prices are rising due to theft. A neighbour had his car stolen from their drive. Fortunately it had a tracker fitted and it was recovered the next day about 5 miles away with no damage and nothing stolen. They keep their keys in a metal box in pouches but the police reckon that the car was stolen to order.
The thieves spot a car they are after and follow it until they are able to clone the key and find out where it is parked, they then steal it and leave it parked somewhere for a few days to see if it can be traced. After that they collect it and sell it on. The police advice was to fit a steering wheel lock and a bollard on the drive so that the thieves go after someone else's car!
It seems so easy to clone keys these days it must lead to increased thefts and therefore increased premiums fo everyone.

I tend to leave my wife's car in front of mine, so to get to the "better" car they will have to move hers first. I also have a hidden switch which cuts out the ignition, so even if they do get in via the keyless code, they'd have to find the switch.

You could keep your car in a garage overnight. I realise that this may not be an option for many but, where I live, all the houses had double garages but few use their garage. I do and pay lower insurance. Those that do not near me generally have their garages full of junk which they cannot bother to move.

Cliff Richard! I don't often watch telly but switched on whilst grabbing a quick lunch and a cuppa. The "team" on Good morning were speaking to Cliff Richard, when he was asked if he had met Elvis. It seems that he cancelled his chance to meet his idol because Elvis had put on a lot of weight and Cliff did not want to be photographed with an overweight Elvis. Alison Hammond just glared at him for the rest of the interview (just before the show ended!). I'm not surprised! I guess "We Don't Talk Anymore!".

Was that the period in Elvis' life when he was very rarely seen in public due to his burger habit and big weight gain??? I did not hear the interview but was Cliff's cancellation of the interview with Elvis more about his concern for Elvis' 'image' ???

Always two sides to such matters, isn't there?

I visited Las Vegas in 1979 and would have definitely gone to see Elvis but for the fact that he died in 1977. His live shows were very popular. I do not remember Cliff Richard at Vegas but would have run the other way; Tom Jones would have been good value.

I'd have to clear out all the fishing gear, studio equipment, and amateur radio stuff, along with the freezer, the grandsons pedal car, and the Xmas decorations...... The cars sit on the drive which has two CCTV cameras on it.....

My wife took a phone call earlier and the caller said.."Can you hear me? " Fortunately, she is aware of that trick.

I have heard of it but was unaware of the various uses it could be put to so I Googled it. It seems that it's a decade old but is making a comeback. It was originally used for business calls but is now being used on personal phones. From what I've read, your "yes" could then be used to sign you up for a service you didn't ask for and when you complain that you have never signed up they will then playback your verbal "Yes" agreement.

One Google result. The response is recorded by the scammer and then used to authorise unwanted charges on phone or utility bills or credit cards"

..and this https://www.bbb.org/article/scams/5691-bbb-warning-if-caller-asks-can-you-hear-me-just-hang-up

It was sad to see Elvis last performances. He was basically being "milked" by his management, turning out show after show in the "factory" that was (and still is, in my opinion) Las Vegas! In hindsight, we can all see what happened and a multi talented young man was ruined.

WAMT? Autumn Statement speculation by the media! Just wait and report the news when it happens why don't you!

Its not really Amazons fault but ..
I bought an air fryer recently, that didn't work, looking at the internal packaging,
it looks like it was a previously returned item.

I was refunded no problem, so I re-ordered, a different one. Still on black Friday deal so it was apparently -47%
Its due between 16:30 & 19:30 ( still waiting)

As I have a delivery due, I checked the door bell was working OK.
No it's not! b****r! I only bought this 2 weeks ago, from guess where!
Now I have to watch out for the delivery guy, I have a well sealed internal door, between the porch and "inside"
And if he does his usual stunt of just tapping on the exterior door, I'll never hear him.
It wouldn't normally matter as he taps, drops and runs. But It seems I have to sign for this one :headbang:

Fiscal drag gets right up my nose :mad:

WTF is that driver doing? he was 5 stops away, and a couple of hundreds away, the next turning down.
Then he headed out of the estate and now needs to "make a few stops" before he gets here.

He is now heading back this way, past a few stops that he was at an hour ago
I don't think he's going to make it before 19:30.
Or even maybe today.

Mrs WW volunteers at a college and instead of waiting in the car at pick up time I stood outside the entrance. I was a bit surprised and saddened to hear the students as it was a torrent of expletives from just about everyone who was talking and many seemed to be behaving much younger than their years. I remember when I went to college and I don't remember all this to this extent.

On a positive note they seem to have more disposable income than I/we had back then. Lots smoking, lots vaping, just about everyone on a smartphone and everyone I saw seemed to be dressed well in nice casual clothes. It wasn't quite as bad as Monty Pythons four Yorkshiremen for me and others but hand me down and mended clothes were more common than the smart casual I saw today. If they could just drop the language and act their age I'd have more confidence in their and the countries future.

Well he was 10 minutes outside the predicted time, no big deal, I did ask him if he needed directions to his next call.
I don't think the Indian guy understood White Man's sarcasm :D

Don't get me started on students! Tens of thousands in student loans??? Paying back for years???? What happened to the Rigsby landlords and hippy lifestyle where you could eat all week from the tips you earned serving on in the local, not eating in fine restaurants and buying all the latest "must haves"! How many student actually have an evening job or get one during the massive "holidays" like the students of yesteryear. We used to have great fun watching them try their hands at a "proper job"! They just never seem to grow up and take responsibility for themselves these days (well, most of them!).

Yes I agree.
My granddaughter is paying £9250 course fees plus £8526 accomodation plus food, course materials, toiletries etc.etc. with no grant.
Why can't she get a job paying over £25000 a year and study at the same time!

Bad and good for me today.

I've been deluged with junk email recently, possibly since we booked Mrs WW's trip to Thailand. I do wish there was a law against passing on peoples details to third parties. The good news is that a mixture of unsubscribing, blocking and reporting as phishing has reduced the deluge to a trickle but how long until I buy something on line and it all starts again?

As I said. I wish there was a law against passing details on to third parties.

Agree it’s frustrating when that happens

You have to be careful this time of year when buying presents.
They use IP addresses now as well.
If I start searching for jewellery, for example, on my phone or tablet, she will get jewellery adverts on hers as well.

That happens with me and Mrs WW. I get adverts of scantily clad women in sports clothes and she gets ads for lenses and watches.

More seriously...

I bought something from MPB today and when I tried to log in I got a message saying that my password had been recognised as one which was stolen during a data breech. I changed it, but it is all very worrying.

Perhaps anyone with an account with them should change their password.

What usually happens to cause that is your password getting listed on the dark web.
Each password gets encrypted. When a password gets cracked they sometimes get listed. If you have the list you can look up the encrypted version and the list will show you the password.
Eg (>=&£_]=|\#_&&--+. = Joe Bloggs 123

If Google ( or others) store your password and it appears on one of these hack lists it will alert you.

Never seen that before. Hard to believe he could still perform that well so close to death. It is a pity that he did not break away from Colonel Parker years earlier.

Well yesterday.
Ordered something from Amazon on Thursday and opted for free delivery to a local shop a few minutes walk away
It said it would arrive on Monday when I ordered, then got an email saying it would arrive yesterday.
At 2.32pm yesterday I got an email stating that they had tried to deliver but missed me, would try again today,
Hmm the shop is open till 10pm but not urgent so so I'd wait.
About 5pm I get another email telling me it had arrived and was awaiting collection
Intrigued walked to the shop, was told that when the guy first came there was a queue in the shop, but that's not a problem delivery drivers get priority get priority , seems the woman serving told him they don't deal with Amazon !!!

ahh I see thanks also wondered about that as I’ve had the thing saying my password has been in a data breach, I did change it :)

WAMT Six commentators on the F1............................. six! Murray and James Hunt were more than enough!

Doctors receptionists who think they know best.

Had an argument with a rose bush on Monday, stabbed through thick gloves. Yesterday woke up with a hot swollen painful finger that I couldn't bend. Phoned at 8am and explained the problem and was given a doctors appointment for 9.50am. (I know, it was a miracle even getting through!) Rearranged my mornings work to accommodate this, all good so far.

9.20am I get a call from the surgery telling me I had been booked to see the wrong person and I needed to see the nurse at 3.15pm. She asked if I had put anything on it, I said I had washed it. I asked if the nurse would be able to give me a prescription for antibiotics and a tetanus jab and was snottily told that she would sort it all out and dress it if necessary. I said it doesn't need a dressing, the thorn had gone right into my finger.

Rearrange my afternoon work, so this has now cost me money as well as inconvenience.

3.15 see the nurse who takes one look at my finger and said "you need antibiotics!" :headbang:

I pointed out that I had said this when I phoned and had originally been given a doctors appointment which had been changed to see her. Eye rolling on her part. Then she says she can't do a prescription so she has to message the doctor (who is in the next room) to do the prescription and send it to the chemist, but can't tell me if it will be today or not.

She did do my tetanus jab though. :)

So, my guess is that "someone" decided that I had a scratch from a rose and (incorrectly) didn't need to see a doctor.

Finally got my antibiotics at 7.30pm so 2 doses behind where I would have been if I had seen the doctor.

That is bad. Someone decided that you did not need antibiotic without ever seeing you! And then when you are seen it is decided antibiotics are needed after all.

I'm guessing if you had been given the prescription and were able to take it to a pharmacy, you might have got the antibiotics earlier.

Perhaps your surgery needs to go on a joined up thinking course.

Heather.. Sorry to hear about that poor experience. It can be different. It shoudn't be but it is and depends on the disposition/empathy of a receptionist.. In the summer I had exactly the same happen to me re a thorn..but pyracantha. I left it and my finger started to swell and 'shine' At my wife's insistence, as ever, I made a call to the surgery. I was asked to send a photo by attaching it to a link that I would be sent. Yes, no problem. I got the link almost immediately. I did this mid-morning, by 12.00pm there was a prescription for antibiotics waiting for me at the local pharmacy and they sorted out the infection. We have a very good surgery and have always had a positive response.

If the doctor had seen my finger he would have given me the antibiotics straight away at 9.50am

The original call resulted in me being given an appointment with the doctor.

Someone made the decision that the doctor wouldn't see my finger after the person I spoke on the phone had made the appointment with the doctor. If that someone had bothered to actually speak to me I have no doubt that the doctor would have seen my finger yesterday morning but instead another member of staff was told to switch me to the nurse in the afternoon.

I don't have an issue with the receptionist acting as a gatekeeper probably because at our surgery that don't 'control' the interaction and request.

Based on your comments I have pause to wonder if the receptionist misunderstood the issue and when the doctor reviewed the note(s) decided s/he did not need to see you.....and told the receptionist what to do???

Sadly, not all surgeries are managed the same way:(

PS one thing for sure, all/most doctors are becoming more wary of prescribing antibiotics 'on spec' and rightly so......but such control is no excuse for not seeing a patient who potentially needs them! The risk of rapid spread of infection is not to be ignored!

There is a road which my wife used to get to work and it has been closed since 2020. Apparently the roadworks are due to finish in 2025. I mean, what on earth is going on there.

I think too much power has been given to reception staff and some of them are abusing that power. The pandemic gave an excuse to people to work from home, not see people face to face, which was understandable to start with, but that cannot work in a medical scenario.

Took mum to the bank to try get her more interest on her savings account. They can't do it in the branch any more, you have to phone!!!! She's 98, going blind, wears hearing aids and has difficulty having a phone conversation. She had to build herself up to going to town in the first place! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! Bankers? W******! Talk about taking advantage of the elderly. Her account pays peanuts in interest. "Go online, you can do it there!" :headbang:

Transfer her, and your, account to Nationwide. Its a mutual so no shareholders to grab the profits; they're not closing any branches and this past year they gave each of the members £100 as a profit share.
