From Steve's description, he didn't initiate the conflict and he wasn't the one carrying an offensive weapon.

About 60 years ago, I wore a very early full face helmet. Someone tried to punch me, again not initiated by me, and I just lowered my head. It was very satisfying to see his face as he tried to massage his knuckles.
 
About the picture of the cop car, that is a response/neighbourhood car, not traffic, they are rarer than hen's teeth.

Coming on here only to read more bloody arguments = mostly just for the sake of it. :mad:

I've said nothing and I won't, just to say I've added yet another idiot to my ever increasing ignore list.

A few tips I've found useful over the years:

1. Try to understand these people - they normally have deep-rooted personal problems.
2. Recognise them and give them a wide berth or ignore them completely.
3. Definitely don't argue with them.
4. Listen to them and say nothing - mostly this pi**es them off.
5. Walk away or in our case, say nothing and put them on your ignore list.

I hate bloody narcissists and know-it-alls. :headbang:

Of course.

I'm sure most people would realise that no sensible unit boss is going to put expensive pursuit vehicles on a "be visible" job, which that was. They even put a large warning sign...

Given that there are just 20 TRAFFIC officers covering Devon and Cornwall in 3 shifts and that they spend too much time doing paperwork, investigation and outriding/escort duties, I'd say that they're as rare as hens' teeth. (Figures told to me by the officers supervising the Bike Safe course I did shortly before lockdown.)
 
Roads policing in Devon and Cornwall (figures as of March 2022):

  • 70 Dedicated Roads Police Officers; 58 PCs, 12 Sergeants
  • 12 No Excuse Officers; 10 PCs; two Sergeants
  • 138 ARVs; 120 PCs ; 18 Sergeants (this number fluctuates)
  • 12 Speed Detection Officers, two of whom are dedicated to working with Community Speed Watch schemes to provide enforceable speed detection in speed watch locations.
What on earth are no excuse officers?

I've just asked my relative.

He's in one of the 6 operational sections, each of which consists of 2 sergeants and 10 PCs, so 72, slightly up on the PCC number. Besides them, there are the 3 No Excuse teams; the Road Casualty Reduction Officers; the Serious Collision Investigation Team; the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit and something called "VEX" which I don't understand.

So: a great many more than 20.

Bought a Massage Cushion from Amazon Japan for lower back....thought i would be nice and let my mother try it first. The instructions says "15mins max" and it auto stops, to stop massaging the same spot for too long.

She decided to use it on her lower back and then sit up and placed her legs on it to massage the back of lower thigh....then it stopped working. The Instructions says it will stop working to prevent damage if you place too much weight on it and should work again after roughly an hour. It still didn't work 3hrs later...

The sad part isn't £100 down the drain (there is no point sending it back as it cost a fortune since it weights over 3kg), but I haven't even tried it myself yet!

I swear by TENS machine, great for aches and pains they have several settings, from "gentle" massage to quite a strong "Pulse"
Can be had from Amazon ( other book sellers are available :D ) at various prices, but far cheaper than 100 quid.

I did order another one.....but this time used for £65 (it is the shipping that kills, even Amazon charges me £40 for shipping), and I send enough heavy things abroad to know that anything over 3kg is silly money), would be over £60, the cost of this 2nd one. Luckily the cover is replacable, or you can take it out of the unit to wash, like a cushion. So I could just take the new cover of my new (broken) one and put it on the used one.

Been sick all Thursday night and Friday morning. Finally, the sickness subsides. No point ringing the doctors on a Friday and I'm too ill to get to the surgery. I'll wait till Saturday morning. Called Saturday morning and they don't take calls on Saturday any more. Wait till monday morning and starting to feel a bit better, so see how it goes. Today, still feeling like cra* so ring again. House insurance renewal, just received our renewal notice from Sheila's Wheels Insurance, last years premium was £250 this years is £714 :eek:. Currently in the process of obtaining other online quotes, they are averaging out between about £300 and £400 depending on "standard" or "premium" cover.
 
When I did a Bikesafe day a number of years ago we were advised that the M3 had, at any one time, 3 traffic cars on patrol, 2 of them were marked, one unmarked. Hampshire Contabulary had moved 3 unmarked cars to "other duties". Now, the M3 covers Met, Surrey & Hampshire forces, and is fairly long so I'm not sure how accurate that was.

I do a compare the whatnot for all insurances every year and cancel "recurring" direct debits to avoid paying "automatic" renewals. Saves me a fortune!
 
WAMT An MOT advisory for tyre worn close to legal limit. I know...................... but it is still legal and the lowest bit measured at 2.6mm!
 
I got a advisory at my last service in the summer because 1 front tyre is at 3.6mm, I knew that and they even tried to sell me a new one at a ridiculous cost, when I asked them if the could do a Goodyear Sport fitted for £60, they said nearer a £110, I declined. They asked, how do you get a tyre at that price, I said my employer is part of a 10+ million pound contract with Goodyear, so we get a great discount, and that is still more than double and a bit, the company is paying for a tyre.
 
Our tumble dryer gave up the ghost on Sunday, so since then I have been trying to source another one. I want a condenser dryer and have my eye on a Hotpoint. Tried to buy it from the AO site, filled in all the relevant details, got my Visa CC ready to pay, but no matter what I do, I cannot enter my card number - nothing happens when I click in the box.
Why do so many things seem difficult nowadays?

Lucky escape in my opinion, remember the Hotpoint dryers that were at risk of catching fire
The lack of prompt action by hotpoint / whirlpool means that I no longer consider buying any of their products.

They sent out an engineer to check mine about ten years ago. I clean the small filter every time after using and the condenser filter once a month. When he looked the machine over and took the back off, he said it was the cleanest one he had ever seen and most fires were caused by people who never did any maintenance. It tells you in the owner's manual what maintenance you should do, you don't need to be a rocket scientist and you only need one small Phillips screwdriver.
I managed to order a Hoover replacement from Argos, should be here on Thursday.

Went to audiology at the local hospital yesterday, had the hearing test and was told to contact the GP for an urgent appointment. This morning, phoned early and got place 10 in the queue, waited for half an hour on the countdown and Musak, talked to a real person and I can have an appointment for....................... October the 26th, in 15 days time.................................. or ring again tomorrow for another attempt to get an emergency appointment. My name is not Victor Meldrew but I do quote him a lot just lately!
 
WAMT is that I couldn't sleep at all, got up and wandered around to probably tire myself enough, then had to give up.
Good thing about that is that I finished my photoglory restorations, found a couple of movies to watch and remembered my TP login. Bad news: I haven't rested at all, but it's much like I just can't?..

Makes you wonder what he and others have been actually been getting away with.

I would struggle to find £653,000,000 in cash right now.

At least he isn’t taking up a slot in an open prison and has paid a chunk of cash rather than just costing the taxpayers more.
