WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Guess who's got net wuts!!!

At least that is something, some don't even do that :(

Duck tape ;)

When I use to go MTB'ing, I had duck tape wrapped around a plastic card in my bag, always handy for repairs.... in my case, after picking myself from the hedges or rock garden and finding holes in my clothes

I'll try some duct tape but TBH, they're about 10 years old and as can be seen, the seam taping on the inner has gone too so it's probably time for a replacement pair. Had it been actually raining before I left home, I'd have worn the "proper" ones but they're bleedin' 'ot if it's not wet...

I'm not made of sugar, anyway (and the netness was easily cured!)

Been watching Before We Die (Channel 4). Watched season 2, episode 3 on Saturday evening and went to watch episode 4 tonight, but it's disappeared from the Sky box. Only season 1 now available. There were only 2 episodes left!
Our house has also heard the cry "Where's it gone?".

We saw the original Before we die - tried the first episode of the British version and it was pretty close but not as good. We had to give it up.

Fuel has suddenly gone up 3-5p a litre around here....crude oil has been fairly stable for months on the markets...

Finding out that there are 351 pages of WAMT (14010 posts) and only 216 (8619 posts) pages of WCMUT !!!
That about sums up 'the British condition' .......we love a good moan but are more reticent to smile :D

Companies who are proud to make products here and stick Made in Britain logos and stickers on their goods.

I know it's to promote our Quality, work and what we can do here.

But they could at least put them on straight!!

;) :exit:

WAMT was discovering that the trousers I wear for g*** in Summer are NOT stinging nettle proof when they're wet. AND the blackberry I was stretching for when I made the contact wasn't particularly sweet!!!

Maybe I should point out that it was only my thigh that got stung!!!

I needed a new cover for my iPad. The one I have has seen better days and it's leather which makes it a bit heavy which is why I wondered about taking it to Italy on our recent holday. So. yesterday, I looked online and found one on Amazon reduced from £20 to £12.80. Not leather,of course. I sent it to my wife's computer as she has Prime. She opened the link and it came up £14.80. How can that be ?. So, I began to order it. Almost signed up for Prime. Written in small print was something like "No..I don't want to have the benefits of Prime" Trying to make you feel a fool,I assume. Then the total was £30.42. ?. Then I saw an item in the basket I'd bought for my wife last Christmas. I couldn't see where to delete it. Also, a "last opportunity" to sign up to Prime showed.. Prime was all over the page. Got a shout from my wife asking if I'd ordered it. "Not yet but I'm trying"..lol. She said she'd now got it at £12.80. and ordered it.

It arrived this afternoon. It's so light I wished I'd abandoned the old one sooner. My wife had bought that leather one and it was £70. Leather ones are about the same today. Quite expensive for a cover.Anyway, it's a very nice cover so, all's well that ends well.

The barber shop.... 3 times recently I've tried to make an appointment by dropping in and asking when they have a slot, and they've been closed each time. So on Monday I called them, set up an appointment for 11.00 today, and guess what, they were closed. I hung around until 11.15 then came home.

Tomorrow the quest for a new decent barber begins...

OK TP I need your support.
Today I discovered that my boss at the charity shop was filing Eric Clapton records under "E" for Eric. He was amused by my outrage. It's either "B" for bin, or "C" for Clapton.
I'm right aren't I?

Eric Clapton records
I think I've heard of him, isn't he the guy that plays guitar?

But then again, according to David Bowie, Ziggy played guitar :D

You have nettles in your garden that can sting you through trousers!!!

My wife's sister cut my hair for the last 20 years but my wife informed a few months ago that her sister could no longer cut my hair so I look for Barber. I found one run by two twenty year old ladies dressed in black leather. I was also offered extras (a cup of coffee); charge was £15. My wife did not approve and urged me to find a more conventional barber. I did so and though he is near the town centre he is next to a car park and does not charge that much for oldies; Charge £10. A traditional barber who has his son working there as well ready to take over the business; my wife approves. So far I always go mid week about 1030 and never had to wait.

None of the local barbers in my local towns do walk ins, you have to book. The chap in our village does walk ins, but he's always empty, you can guess why. Used him once, won't go back...

For years up until the pandemic I used the same barber but then bought Wahl clippers and have been doing it myself with the OH's help with back of my neck .......

But she now says I need to go back but AFAIK he has retired and his son owns the business......I will have to give him a try out ?

PS at one point during those years I tried a more local one run by 2 youngish women.......not a great cut and never returned.

Dave

Only when they're wet (trousers!) and the nettles are along the hedge on the g*** course rather than in the garden.

Not for the first time I have spent the last 3/4 hour trying to transfer an image, via wifi direct and network, from my Lumix tz90 to my phone.(samsung flip3). Total failure.
Set it up, says connected. Try to xfer image and connection lost.
Love Lumix cameras but thier image app is crap.
I will now try the Merlot approach.

You know the saying, if in doubt, clout.
If all else fails, read the handbook.
Failing that, have a stiff one :D

Then a drink?

The bin men. They haven't emptied our green waste bin, which is a major issue as 1) we've paid for it, and 2) it's full up and I want to mow the back lawn.... They seem to have emptied everybody else's.:sulk:

Where we are the council website has a reporting system that is quite efficient for any unemptied bins.
Once entered, they say it will be collected the next day or latest two days. Though of course if you expected to mow the lawn 'today' a delay is not a lot of help :(

We have had the odd times when I have had to report one of other of the bins and they do come out as promised.

PS Once I reported that the bin mem split some bin contents and they came out with hours to clear the mess up!

My bold. I've seen our bin men in jogging mode, not quite running as such, due to the tight timetable management impose on them, so whilst it is annoying that they don't pick up rubbish that spills out of the plastic/tin recycle box or the paper/cardboard sack as they pick it up off the grass verge I tend to overlook it because of the pressure management put on them to empty more bins/recycle boxes/sacks than is reasonable in a given time frame . What does annoy the heck out of me is ME having to pick up the neighbour's rubbish that fell out of their plastic/tin recycle box or more often the cardboard/paper sack. They just take their bins/boxes and sacks in and leave 'stuff' on the verge, the roadway/gutter or the footpath that's obviously come from their bin..recycle box or paper/cardboard sack. I just don't understand it. It's always ME that picks up empty milk/fruit-juice cartons and especially paper and cardboard, that has blown down the road on very windy days. When I know there's going to be strong winds I put a house brick on the green recycle box lid ..(for plastic and tins) and I put the, usually heavy, mini box containing waste food on top of the paper/cardboard sack. I despair when I see neighbours put their paper/cardboards sacks and recycle boxes out the evening before collection with no lids or the sack overfull and the flap open when string winds are forecast, even worse, named storms. Many, I'm sure, would say I shoudn't do it but seeing the stuff on the roadway and across on the verge is not something I can ignore. We all have a responsibility to keep our environment as clean as possible or simply just keep the neighbourhood looking clean and tidy. It really doesn't take a lot of effort.

Just a quickie. One day , walking our dog close to home, I saw a man come out of his garage with something and walk down the side of his house to the back.He couldn't have missed seeing the family-sized empty crisp packet on the footpath, almost on his block-paved drive which is a very short drive. As I passed his house I was able to see into his garage. You'll know the Audi advert..not sure if it's still going. "Vorsprung durch Technik". It showed a garage that was immaculate. You coukd eat your dinner off the floor..lol. That was like this chap's garage. As I passed he returned to the garage went in and closed the door. The huge empty crisp packet remained on the footpath. I picked it up and put it in the next litter bin I came across. I know where they are on that walk..with our Retriever. My theory is that the footpath is not his property so he has no responsibility to pick up that packet. It's the Council's job. It amazed me that someone who kept, not only his garage immaculate but his open-plan front garden, too.

I find that I clear up after other neighbours and dustmen also. People seem to forget that they also live on the Close and it is much nicer if it is looked after.

That said I realised that I was ‘that’ neighbour earlier. The house next to ours is empty waiting for the new owners to move in. It is green bin day tomorrow and I cut my grass and also theirs as it is just a small strip just the other side of our driveway and took no time at all. Turned out they were actually in the house without me knowing and thought that I was being critical of them - so a great start. If you do something you thought would be neighbourly nice and it goes bad….

About 25m away from my home are three electric bikes for hire sitting by the bus stop in a marked 'bay'. Sometimes one will be left 'nearby' .Such was the case today. The 'nearby' this afternoon was across our drive. My wife was about to reverse the car to go to the supermarket. I just happen to go out to the front just as she was about to come out of the house .I'm sure she would have seen it as she got into the car but nevertheless.

My wife told me that last week she saw 4 kids, about 11/12 years old, walk past our house and one crossed over the road to the three electric bikes and pushed one over. She said the other three just watched and when the kid returned to them they walked on as if it was normal. It's school holidays of course.
