WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I started a new thread “Mosquito bite relief” on this, time of year and all that :(.

Do you find antihisan better than the hydrocortisone creams? I confess I’ve never tried antihisan.
My wife got the Anthisan and I've just asked her about hydrocortisone and she said no because it's a steroid and best avoided. I defer to her on these issues :)

Millions of people use steroid creams - Prep-H to name but one common example available OTC! We used to have a tube of 2.5% hydrocortisone which was fantastic at stopping the itch but we only used it for the first day or 2 to reduce the possibility of side effects.

Just now discovering this - 1658179479102.png
They were running a much reduced service today - going to be hotter tomorrow but not much, being able to reclaim my fare is not actually much help :-(

There must be a high risk of a de-railment with this heat. I mentioned in the Heat Wave thread that a linesman measured the temperature of a track and it was 67C..152.6F.

After yesterday, the bathroom door doesn't shut - I need to look at the striker plate, something has warped. Today, inside the house is 29C and outside is 20C - definitely the wrong way around. Modern houses are too efficient when you don't want them to be.

We've had two power cuts today. I can't remember when we last had one. Hopefully there'll be something on the news about it, if we can watch the news :D

PS.
I was worried about food in the fridge and freezer but thankfully the first cut lasted less than an hour and the second only 1/4 an hour or so.

Someone has turned the sun off. 25oC Brrrrrrrrrr.
Where's me coat?

In order to cool the house down, I have opened all the windows and I am getting a nice through breeze.
So what has annoyed me?
Well, a guy who moved in a few months ago a few doors down, seems to have a serious "weed" problem and the wind is bringing the stinking odour in my direction:mad:

I've had that problem too - big time. :headbang:

A few little 'mentions' of getting the police involved seems to have stopped it 'for the moment', but I expect it will start again. Next time, it may involve savage dogs and a baseball bat. ;)

The landlady's husband at the hotel we stay in on Crete puts his coat on when the temperature drops to 25°C. Just before midnight in June!

Somebody had a party in the village a couple of weeks ago, the house has a 10ft wall all around, but the smell of weed was very strong....

Must have been a local thing, mail box was stuffed full yesterday.
Its a possibility not a reality as yet.
Negotiations are on going, and they have to give 2 weeks notice of strike action.

Oh and BTW My postie is working he went by a couple of hours ago.

Speaking as a customer, the people at the sharp end of Royal Mail are generally excellent. Speaking as someone who did six months working for the engineering department, so are the technical people.

As ever, the fly in the ointment is clearly labelled "senior management", who would be challenged to organise a drinking party for two in a well stocked bar. :headbang:

Mine most certainly is :)
He knows where to leave stuff he if misses me. ( and he gets a decent tip at the end of the year )
Unlike Amazon, who totally ignore my designated safe place and leave it on the door step, in all conditions,
and then claim to have handed the parcel to the resident :(

Our normal posties are pretty good, although they seem to be incapable of following the easy request to put things in the meter cupboard and post the keys through the letter box - all the other delivery bods seem to manage that! The relief posties are almost universally crap - wrong road, wrong number, both...

My mam had a fall yesterday, nothing too serious and she's fine but it did mean spending all day in hospital yesterday and I/we saw a bewildering array of people but all in the various colours of uniform you see in hospitals, they were all medical staff with no one more official looking in suits.

We were offered lots of services and it all sounded wonderful and at each point I did say "How much will this cost" and the reply was always words to the effect of "After the assessment it's free." All well and good. But yesterday evening and today we've had a series of calls from various agencies offering various things and guess what? It's all chargeable.

I/we may or may not purchase these services and we may or may not accept any free services, I don't know yet. My gripe is that it seems like the blizzard of marketing emails you get when you renew your insurance or mobile phone or whatever, it's as if someone somewhere is passing on information to all these companies and probably being paid to do so. I didn't expect this after a trip to hospital and I don't want the NHS selling data to third parties.

WAMT, People who shatter your confidence :(

I'm already at rock bottom and didn't need it today..

Sorry, just needed to vent, I'm going home, then I'm going to go out looking for my little pin cushion and fluffy friends

oh dear. sorry to read that.

Tomorrow is another day and whatever caused this today sounds like it could in part be bad action on the part of another so don't beat yourself up too much. Here's to tomorrow! :D

Cheers Alan, I'll spare the details :)

I may be assuming too much but this reads like it might have been a work related thing. If so it may help to think that no good manager, supervisor or colleague would or should ever shatter confidence.

Work related, but customer judging my skill set based on me having Anxiety and being much younger ... then wanting to speak to the boss ... he was

The public/customers can be difficult. I think the most difficult one I ever had I answered with "You don't want to talk to him. You can if you want but even if you do he'll have no idea what your issue is and will just ask me. I'm the one you need to talk to. Lets sort this out" Luckily after he'd had his rant he calmed down.

I'm not saying that little sentence or three will work every time or for you but maybe thinking about what could happen and preparing for some possibilities and events might help you cope with the public and your management structure which can be just as bad or worse and might lead to you suffering less negative effects? I had my stress related issues but mostly I got through it by thinking what could come at me and preparing and having my defence in depth ready for any attack that could be made by difficult people or scenarios from any direction.

So that's my little bit of advice, try and anticipate what's going to come at you and have defence in depth prepared :D

Good luck with it Gav.

Once had a customer speaking to one of the girls in my team so badly that she ended up in tears. I got her to call him back while we were in a conference room and basically told him that if he spoke like that to any of my staff again he would no longer be a customer. At that time we were the only manufacturer in the UK for a certain bit of equipment, without which, his life would become difficult.

Never had a problem with him again. He'd forgotten to order something and wanted us to stop what we were doing on the production line and make "his stuff" immediately, and I think he pick on one of the girls in the office knowing full well if he'd have spoken to me he couldn't bully me. Bloody pathetic, but some people are just nasty.

I do a nice line in Voodoo dolls :D

Sorry to hear that someone was being an arse.
But as the Romans say,
Illegitimi non carborundum ("Don't let the bastards grind you down") :D

Unfortunately some people consider this to be normal behaviour. The only way they think they can get what they want is to shout, scream, swear , bully. If I am being brave, I say we can continue when they have calmed down and put the phone down.

Customers can come and go and you might never hear from a problem one again. Thank Gosh. I think bad management is much more of a problem for employees. I've seen some shockers who seemed to enjoy belittling, bullying and the disciplinary process as some sort of power trip. Some people get promoted beyond their abilities, some go from being good in a technical job to being very poor in a people managing role.

The problem is knowing when the voice at the other end belongs to someone who's a bully or someone who has a real problem and hasn't been getting what they've paid for.

It gets really fraught when dealing with big contracts that other peoples' jobs depend on. Luckily, I've never been in that sort of situation but I've known people who were. :(
