WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Taking in parcels for neighbours - yes, I am once again getting a little ticked off about this. Said neighbour has regular deliveries and I am often in the house, so take them in. Said neighbour now seems reluctant to knock on my door to receive deliveries, perhaps thinking that I am part of the delivery chain - the final link in the delivery service maybe.
At what point do I now refuse to take in deliveries for him? The previous neighbours were a complete PITA over this, even accusing me of holding on to a delivery for them which had been delivered over the road.
Where do some folks get this sense of entitlement from?

I'd just decline any further deliveries. Tell the entitled neighbours you've discontinued this service if they ask ...

I bought something off ebay for £19 + change and it was faulty so I contacted the seller to arrange a replacement but he wanted to charge me £6 so I told him no and that I'd initiated a return through ebay. He then contacted me dropping the charge to me to £3.99 so I told him again that I'd initiated a return. He still didn't give up and sent me another message saying I could have a replacement for free.... Well, if he'd said that when I first contacted him... but it's already on the way back to him.

This is a UK supplier too but maybe one with limited grasp of what "I've initiated a return through ebay" means. The cheek though!

Our neighbours actually put a sign on their door saying deliveries to no. 4 ( us).
They never asked us if it was ok.
I used to take em all in, now I take about 1 in 3. And I wait for them to collect, as they tend to just wait for me to take them round.
Big parcels get blanked. 2 bikes ffs!. If I put em on my drive(behind gates) what happens if they get nicked?

We know from one of our neighbours, who are usually good at collecting parcels we have taken in for them, that sometimes the delivery person doesn't put a card in to let them know about a delivery. Its annoying but I've heard some couriers get paid very little per deliver so perhaps it is not too surprising.

That is really extracting the urine, I don't blame you for refusing most.
TBH I'd refuse all, especially after the bike incident.

That is a whole new level of CFery.

I'd be very tempted to put a notice on my own door saying 'Deliveries for No (whatever it is) are not accepted here'.

Shades of 'give them an inch and will take a mile'

This just adds to the neighbourly awkwardness..................on the surmise 'you' take a parcel in because they are not in, the time to let them know is right after you take it i.e. drop note saying please come and collect ~ stating a time when you will available....like 10am when you know they will be out!!!! :naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:

Yup!

A good logical step.......(y)

Yes. Just to add a positive note to all this neighbourly hatred . I have 4 houses newly built next to me. My brother died here suddenly about 3 years ago, next-door came round after police etc had left and brought a bottle of milk and some tea bags and asked if there was anything else she could do (there wasn’t). The next day after my my deceased brother’s son arrived she brought a freshly cooked shepherds pie and a trifle, enough for 4 people.

For one of the other new neighbours I had an Amazon parcel left in error (or maybe not error since I am on the road and they are in a couple of houses down a long drive ;) ). I know she works at the hospital (admin) but works from home 3 days. NHS has stopped delivery of chemo now and I currently can’t drive to the hospital so it would cost me £40 in taxis to get them. I texted her to ask if she’d be able to pick them up some time which she said she would but wasn’t due to go in for a week which I said was fine (though it wasn’t as I had run out ;) ). The next day she brought them round almost certainly having made a special 20 mile round trip — plus a litre of bottled water because the mains had burst and our water was running brown!

So no complaints here. Maybe to paraphrase POTUS Kennedy (of whom I am not a fan) “ask not what your neighbour can do for you but what you can do for your neighbour”. Though it does sound like some of the neighbours above need doing in!

I usually text or email mine for that.

The epitome of good & decent neighbourliness:)

We have some neighbours who we get along very well with....:) ......some others on the other hand....well one household in particular, I would not (to use the expression) p**s on them to put a fire out!

I've lived here over 40 years, most of the neighbours are the same, although obviously there has been a few changes in that time.
I only know them to pass the time of day with.
Suits me. :)
(Yes I'm that grumpy ole [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] that lives on your road :D )

Since we moved here 3 years ago, the neighbours have all been wonderful. It's so different to when we lived in London and had a tosser on one side, and the other side was a rental of revolving people.

In the last few weeks my neighbours have given me some tomato plants, some cucumbers that they've grown, and a big bunch of Cosmos plants. I've done some photos of one of their dogs which I had printed for them...

In our last house we dropped a card at neighbours wishing them all a Merry Christmas. Couple of days later the bloke came around, pretty unusual, and told us - between the tears- that his wife had left with the kids and moved to Spain with her new partner 5 months ago. Anyway ended with him saying at least we were not nosy neighbours

WoWza! I'd get out of there fast!

I'd be damned if I let those brats drive me out of my home!

WAMT?
And for the last couple of weeks.
I'm looking to replace my car, without losing too much performance or handling.

I've searched just about every make, model and variant on auto trader.
Nothing is grabbing my attention. ( I'm not looking for recommendations here)

It seems gone are the days, when you could go for a mooch around the local car dealers,
pick one or 2 and drive them.

I'd spend many a happy hour doing that in the past, driving round the local-ish dealers.
But it seems that things have changed for the worst in the last 5 years or so.
You have to phone for an appointment, or buy on line, and there is no way in hell that I am buying one un-driven.
Oh and some certainly have a sense of humour regarding price, mileage and year

The couple I contacted via ask us a question function have not responded.
It seems I may have asked the wrong questions ( or for my benefit the right ones ;) )

Onward and upwards as they say.

It seems many are still operating click and collect as per the Covid protocols.

As for prices, the shortage of and big delays for new vehicles has caused 2nd hand prices to soar. 18 months ago, Mrs F paid £7,800 for a 66 plate Skoda Yeti. We've seen the same model/year going for £14,000!

I ordered my next Motability vehicle (Suzuki Swace) in May. I was told January at the earliest

I guessed that, their loss.
I shan't be buying from them.

I know, crazy eh?
No so long back my daughters financier [sic] bought a Evoque for 18k when he got home she checked the price and even webuyanycar was offering 22k
( Although he did get a good deal as at the time he was working for inchcape )

We're lucky here in that we have the largest concentration of dealerships in Europe (IIRC) on our doorstep. Chatting to a couple of them yesterday, they do test drives but I didn't ask if they were by appointment or just a turn up and drive basis. Of course, the rising numbers may well change things soon...

We had a tradesman doing a couple of jobs here in the week and he's now got his Mercedes van back after it was damaged. He crunched it himself but that was in February and Mercedes have had problems getting what they needed to do the repairs.I think we'll keep our car past the three years after which the MOT is required until things get back to some kind of normal.

Mine is a lot older than that, and TBH its starting to show its age.
( and so am I when I try and get out of it :D )

We are intending to keep our Yaris until at least it’s 10 years old so another 6 years
Toyotas now have effectively a ten year warranty if you have the car serviced at a Toyota dealer so it makes sense for us to keep the car especially as already said the way prices have gone

A sentiment that I and I'm sure many more on here can agree with.

My MX5 is 21 now and my Getz is about 13 or 14. I've been thinking of buying a new car but then I think, what's the point?

It'll be a classic soon :)

I'm not looking for a new one, just new to me, and I can't decide between another hooligan machine or something a little more refined ...

When I bought the JCW Clubman, I spec'ed it with leather seats and a plain cabin design, trying to get away from the "go faster" style interior. For the first 18 months I still drove it in sport mode, with the box in manual...... So that idea of calming me down didn't really work :giggle:

However, it now gets used mostly in "Eco" mode, and the tank range has gone up from 275, to around 350 miles....

Let someone else take years 1 & 2 hit. Average first year depreciation 15-25% of which 10% takes place as the wheels hit the road from the dealership. Over 3 years 60% depreciation. I appreciate times are little different right now but pre-covid you could pick up £45-50,000 cars with all the luxury in them for about £25-28,000.

I'd be going for 'refined' :D

Hooligan machine always :)

When I bought the JCW Clubman,
I did consider a 2.0l Cooper S

But then I discovered a 1 series 3.0 125i M BMW.
Oh and BTW as I don't drive that far It'll sports mode all day and every day (y)

And so it continues ...

I just don't know. I quite like the Evoque or even the RR Sport but both are its a little too sedate for me.

Hooligan machine always :)
A Mustang would be great but a decent RHD one is a bit more than I want to pay sadly

R1, GSXR1000, CBR100RRR or S1000RR, and only 2 tyres to buy when needed, instead of 4. Aircon is great too. (y)

;)
I've not ridden a bike in a fair few years TBH.
I can't see me getting back in the saddle now.

I had n M135i for a while, lots of fun, but a bit too clinical for me.

TBH I'm not a massive BMW fan anyway.
And Audi (TT) per se doesn't seem to have a brilliant reputation for reliability

I remember years ago the mechanic at he garage advising us not to buy an Audi especially he said a TT it sounds like that advice still applies

I drove an Audi 100 Coupe S for several years without anything more than minor problems. As is always the case, people's mileage varies.
