WAMT....what annoyed me today!

It's a Samsung. 50" from Currys.

I'll go online when I have time and can be bothered and see if there's any help.

The main annoyances...

- The keyboard. Once you select a letter the letters near it change to options such as space bar, delete and so on and so obscure a letter you may want so you have to bypass it and return. The first time I saw this I thought "WTF? The letter I want isnt here." Of course it was there, it was just obscured by a symbol.
- When exiting some of the menus the home page is displayed obscuring half the TV, so you have to exit that too.
- When trying to call up or cancel subtitles pressing the button takes you to an access page which obscures anything you're watching, you then have to scroll down to subtitles and select your preference and then exit whilst listening to a woman describing all the options. Even with audio descriptions turned off she persists. Subtitles are just a toggle on every other device I have but it takes 5 button presses with this plus it obscures the screen and I have to listen to a natator.
- The home screen includes an icon and my email address is visible. I don't want my email address visible to anyone looking at the screen.

Oh, and one more annoyance. The search facility seems useless and just throws random stuff at you.

These are all little things which some people will never notice or be bothered about but I see them and I am bothered, every time. The only consolation is that this obsessiveness lead to retiring at 49, so I suppose there are plus points.

It does have a nice picture though, much better than the 6 year old LG it replaced.

PS.
While I was ranting and swearing at the TV Mrs WW was laughing like a drain.

Me "WTF? Why are you doing this you utter pile of @&*$!"
Her "HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

My 96 year old mum rang me first thing this morning to ask if I had any bubble wrap to spare as she had been out in the garden since 7 am putting "stuff" over her new plants in the garden to protect them from the frost!!! No! She doesn't have dementia or similar but is an avid gardener! I gave her a sound telling off for going out in the cold, saying that her health and safety is more important than a few plants! Mum knows best???

I have to say if you told my 98 year old Dad to not go out in the cold you would have got a very strong reaction.

credit card fraud. So yesterday i had a call from my bank regarding some dodgy transactions against my credit card. £1800 for Qatar Airways which wasn't me. They had blocked the transaction and will be sending new cards out but the annoying thing is they wont chase it up. It cant be hard to track down the felon, their name and details must be against the ticket purchase, but no, they don't bother to prosecute. So if you fancy a life of crime, CC fraud seems to be the way to go!

Prosecutions occur regularly, where they are practical.

In the first place, the decision to prosecute is not made by the card issuer, it's a matter for the criminal justice system of the of country where the fraud is initiated.

Secondly, most card fraud is carried out by prolific offenders and it can take time to track these people down,

Thirdly, no employee of a card issuer should ever tell you anything about what's happening because (a) they're unlikely to know (b) even if they do know, giving any information to a third party can adversely affect the prosecution and (c) the harmed party is the issuing company and not you, provided they refund the credit to your card.

The matter only becomes your business if the issuer refuses to refund on the basis that you, in some way, assisted in the fraud.

News programmes .......................................... that aren't! They simply speculate on what is "expected" to happen or be said "tomorrow", "this week" or any other time in the future because "an insider" told them so! Why can't they wait until it happens? Then, it would be news!

Lol..I agree.

I suspect they find themselves short of news, also maybe want to get a steal on the other channels. I find Sky News and ITV much better than the BBC but my wife likes to watch the BBC. The BBC weather is good, though. Sky and ITV carry stories that are important that just aren't even mentioned on the BBC

I've had four OMG moments on the road this week, two of them today. After having two close shaves this week I was thinking last night how lucky I was not to crash and then today, two OMG moments in one day. All these have been someone elses "fault."

Todays both involved slip roads...

The first, I was driving along an A road at the speed limit 50mph with slower moving slip road traffic exiting on my left when a slower moving car pulled briefly into my lane to overtake a car on the slip road, this was a stand on the brakes moment. The second was on the return journey and again involved a slip road and again I was in the LHL doing 50mph and this time a van overtook me and pulled in sharply and then applied the brakes before pulling onto the skip road so that was another stand on the brakes moment. After he'd gone I double checked my mirror and I was the last car in the little sequence, the next being a good way back. It does annoy me when people simply must overtake before diving for a slip road at the last moment rather than just pulling in behind the last car, if you can follow that. It happens from time to time but this was an extreme example.

After having a quiet time on the roads with nothing happening for a long time 4 OMG moments in a week has reminded me that it is really a very good idea to drive defensibly and expect someone to do something... daft at pretty much any moment.

PayPal being a-holes. They won't remove my 'bank' and let me pay for a debt using my 'card'. Had a problem since the 2nd Dec because Yorkshire Bank have now been taken over by Virgin, so my 'bank' on my PayPal is dodgy. I'm becoming irrated in their live chat.:mad::mad:

Edit: Oh and their live chat is dodgy with missing letters out even though I'm pressing on the key on the keyboard

Why has your bank on PayPal become dodgy?
Yorkshire bank haven't been taken over by virgin.
They're still owned by Clydesdale banking group, who actually took over virgin.
All they've done is rebranded as Virgin Money.
That won't affect your bank account.

Why has your bank on PayPal become dodgy?

I shouldn't have said "dodgy"

This is what I wrote on PayPal's Live chat yesterday.

On November 28th I sent a friend payment of £3.80. This payment was unsuccessful in going out from my bank. One or two weeks later I received an email from PayPal saying that the payment had failed. I received another email saying that the payment would be charged to my card. I contacted PayPal through Live Chat, I asked if I had to complete the setup for ‘Direct Debit’. The person said yes. After doing this, some days later, the payment for £3.80 was taken out of my bank…...On December 2nd I bought something using my PayPal. The exact same thing happened again. On the 9th December I received 2 more emails about the payment of £XXX.XX not being taken from my bank…..On the 11th Dec I tried transferring money from my bank to PayPal twice via online, but I kept getting an error message, which I’m sure you can see looking at my account. I tried the PayPal App and I successfully transferred the money. The money still hasn’t appeared in my PayPal account. Today I received an email headed “Act now to resolve the balance that shows an amount owing us on your account”. I’m getting nervous that this matter between you not being able to cancel the ‘Yorkshire Bank Current Account’ and things will escalate further because I owe money. I have already contacted my bank, but nothing can be done. It is up to PayPal. What can you do?

To this day I'm still waiting for the money to be transfererd from my bank using the 'bank' to PayPal. I became irritated yesterday when it hadn't gone through which is why I contacted PayPal via Live Chat/Messenging. They won't remove the 'bank' until funds have cleared. They did say they would clear the funds if I still have a problem, but we'll see.

To cut all the messages I sent PayPal, I've only had this problem since November 28th. Previously I've paid one other person twice and didn't have a problem.

Both accounts, the bank and the card, are from the same bank account. So technically they shouldn't collide with one another.

I do believe that if they remove the 'bank', I shouldn't have any problems with money being taken from my 'card'.

I always have two payment options when buying something with PayPal and I always select the 'bank' and not the 'card'.
I don't understand why I'm only having problems with paying for something.
I don't understand why I had to finish setting up the Direct Debit. I've NEVER had to do this before.

Strange.
I've got bank, debit card and credit card set up on my account but never had to set up a direct debit facility.
I understand the clearance part though as you're transferring money to PayPal from your account and they won't do anything with that money until it has cleared the system....

Yes that's true. I've just asked if they can assure me that if it fails again, that they will remove the 'Yorkshire Bank' and then I can use my Debit Mastercard.

Such a stupid system when you try and remove a bank or card, that it specifically says that when you remove it, the transaction will move to the other method of payment. But obviously it doesn't.

Its been suggested a few times over the years by PP that I should add my bank account "for my own protection"
That's not happening!
Also that I should set up a direct debit to pay my account ..
I just ignore(d) both, each and every time.
The stopped asking a couple or so years ago.

Received another message from customer support saying that I have to wait until funds are in PayPal before I can remove the bank.
Can't wait til this is over and done with.

Don't get me started on Virgin Bank mate, I spent most of last week in the rage from hell because my new Bank card from VM didn't work online in most cases, apparently it's not unique to my card as the Bank contacted Dad yesterday and told him other customers have reported the same problem I've been having with using VM Bank cards online.

I wouldn't mind but Dad and I specifically went down to the Bank last Tuesday morning to investigate the problem, and the damn Bank wouldn't do anything.

Had to go into Trowbridge today. The 25 minute trip took around 40 minutes due to the heavy fog. Why do so many people get in their cars and drive in fog, without any lights on?? DRL's are often only at the front too.

Oh, and they don't have Covid in Trowbridge, well you would think so the amount of people in shops without masks......

The fact that 2 weeks ago I bought an old Sony DSLR on eBay thinking it'd be an upgrade from the Canon I bought from CEX about 2 and half years ago, turns out the Sony's about 20 years out of date, and even though I've tested it and it actually does work, I'll probably pop up to Harrison's on London Road after Christmas and see if I can trade it and another oldish camera I bought years ago in towards a more modern Sony camera.

It wasnt a dslr, it was an ancient cybershot point and shoot. Maybe ask here before buying anything else and get some proper advice. Harrison’s won’t want it, I can guarantee you that much.

Looked at PayPal on Monday this week and the money is finally being transfered. Should be in PayPal by the end of this month. Can't. Friggin'. Wait to delete the 'bank' off my account.

A new thing annoyed me today. Well, it's annoyed my for a good few months. now. I've been waiting for an appointment at Bradford Royal Infirmary because I suffer from leg ulcers.

I had 3 of them.

2 of them healed in the last few weeks. One of them is nearly healed. Shoule be even more healed by tomorrow when I have another appointment at my local GP surgery.

I received a text saying I had a letter waiting. Followed the given link and I have my long waited appointment on 13th Jan. Going to ask tomorrow if it's worth going since I'm neary healed. It will be great when I ring up to cancel it to see what their excuse is for waiting so long. Forget about this covid garbage. My health was on the line and I wanted to be seen because I thought they would heal quicker if I had more experimental treatment rather than relying on the local GP surgery to heal them.

WAMT was the serrated strip on the clingfilm box being set about a millimetre below the edge of the box where it is as effective as a chocolate teapot. TBH, clingfilm itself annoys me but sometimes it's the only option!

TBH, clingfilm itself annoys
It sticks where its not wanted, usually to itself, and its worse than sellotape if you lose the end :(

In my experience, it sticks to everything except what you want it to. It's almost as bad as Velcro.

I hate both . . .

I must be lucky. I never have any problems with cling film or Velcro. :tumbleweed:

I responded to your original post..a like and a post agreeing. I get naffed off with it too. I appreciate many look forward to the Queen's Christmas message and where members of the Royal Family will be for Christmas or re this Delta/ Omicron...where they won't be this year. . Not the exact point you were making but....Also, Have Prince. William & Kate published a family Christmas photo yet ..? It's a clever PR excercise imo. My thoughts are actually with the lonely, the poor, those experiencing a family bereavement because of a Covid death . Children in hospitals. I do know that each year Gareth Bale and his wife take presents to the Children's Hospital of Wales. in Cardiff. The Royal Family really don't feature in my 'thoughts' list. On a human level, though, I do acknowledge that the Queen is amongst those experiencing bereavement and it will be her first Christmas without Prince Philip. No doubt the family,as a whole, will feel the loss.

Cling film is a nightmare because it does exactly what it says on the tin..or in this case, the box..:D

Me NOT wearing high heels (or a bankini...) :p

WAMT?
well the other day now.
I bought a specific plant from ebay advertised at 20-22cm inc pot, for £11.
That was about right price wise.
it arrived at just about 15cm inc. pot.

I thought I'd have a bit of a moan, clicked through to the auction site, and I see that the the description is now 15cm.
Maybe the "helpful & truthful" feedback I left may have prompted this, maybe not.

Thankfully "My orders" recorded the sale at 20-22cm, so I have photographic proof.
I doubt I'll start a claim but I just thought that the seller should have the benefit of my displeasure,
via the contact function..

I usually do, especially at this time of year! I do wrap her birthday presents though. ;)

Continued .. the seller came back with a most amusing and convoluted reply, revolving around the fact that it should
have been in a bigger pot, which would in fact made it a bigger size :ROFLMAO:

I thanked them for the best excuse I have ever seen for a "not as described"
And hoped that their response gave ebay customer service just as much a chuckle as did me..

They came back and finally admitted that it was smaller than advertised,
and to settle they offered a £4 refund.. Which I accepted..

Why would they only refund 4 quid? It'd cost them more than that in postage for a large item!

But that's the point it was a small item that arrived even smaller it cost me 11 quid with "free" postage.
I got just over a 36% refund
I was happy with that.

Glitter.
