WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I've had a little white fairy in a plant pot for decades but today it's gone.
It maybe on its travels, a few years ago, in a village near me someone had quite a collection of Gnomes.
One night one of them disappeared.
A few days later they started getting post cards from the Gnome, from around the world...

The mystery of the missing fairy.

I've had a little white fairy in a plant pot for decades but today it's gone. It was pushed into the soil near a rose bush and I'd sometimes find it laying on the soil, presumably pulled out by a bird, and I'd push it back in but today there's no sign of it. The last time I pushed it back into the soil was a week or so ago and I nearly gave up and brought it into the house to put with an indoor plant. Oh dear :(
A very bad sign, it‘s flown away to avoid the coming winter, it knows something you don’t :).

I know it's daft but I've felt really upset about it especially as I nearly brought it into the house last time it was uprooted. I've looked in and around all the pots and searched the lawns and it's nowhere to be seen so I really can't explain it as if a bird had picked it up it would have been dropped nearby, as usual.

Might be a Magpie or Crow if it’s small enough.

f*****g Amazon. ‘nuff said.......

Or “please read the house name on the package before you dump and run”.

Have you not heard that fairies have been banned under the latest Elf and safety regulations? - I'll get me coat.

It was maybe 4 or 5 inches tall so small enough for a critter to carry off if determined enough and we have a family of magpies and they often pick at the plants but to take the fairy and fly off with it just seems so odd. Anyway. I don't really feel all that guilty about hoping the thief choked on it especially if it was the magpie who killed a starling outside our window a while back. Maybe I do feel guilty, but not too much :D

Hope this will help you overcome your loss. It all depends how old she was, I’m guessing under 4 decades because:

1.We've been trying to get a hospital appointment changed for 10 days as we'll be away. All we get is an answering machine with a message that someone will get back to us. Then a letter came on Saturday explaining that the appointment has changed .Nothing to do with our phone calls. The new date is no good either. This morning my wife tried again and again 'someone will call back' but no-one has. We'll give it one more try tomorrow and then we'll have to go to the hospital dept. I can't see any other way. I hope that will work.

2. Spent ages trying to sign up (for online delivery) with a Chanel product from Chanel for my wife. I'm taken aback at the cost of their products. £90 for a 200ml bottle of face cleanser ! What's wrong with soap and warm water ? https://www.chanel.com/gb/skincare/...shing-and-radiance-revealing-cleansing-water/

On the 'sign up' page is a box for our telephone number. I'd selected +44 (GB) from the options infront of the box and then wrote in our number. A red message came up. 'Telephone number incorrect' So, I've heard the first zero has to be left out of the regional code so I tried that and it didn't work. Infact ,after I put in that '0' a space was created. I rang the number for customer care and got a message to the effect that they're very busy and to leave a message and..yes..someone will get back to me, however the line then went dead.I tried twice and that happened both times. So..I Emailed them and got an automated reply :

I thought I'd try to get the Chanel product through John Lewis but the reviews for their online service are awful .I'm sure our local Debenhams would have had it but they closed in April. It's going to be a city-centre campus for the Uni of Gloucester.

3. My wife uses Liz Earle skin products too. I signed up with them ok and got a welcome Email. They have so many products of the type I want ..page after page after page... that look pretty well identical to me but on close examination different...the tubes, the bottles...I'm unable to match any with what she has. Very close but not quite the right one and I assume it has to be THE right one. I'm amazed at the variety she has. I assume it's the same for the wives of others on here.

So..I've actually given up today. Somewhat stressed out but just before I threw the towel in I tried another online company and was very pleased to see that I can get the Chanel product from a retailer in Stroud 9 miles away but I hope it's a store as well as online. A couple of reviews stated the shop staff were very good in the Northampton store.

I don't even like Christmas but can you imagine not getting anything ? Well, I could say I've got a surprise. "Oh, what's that ?" "Nothing" ..That would be a surprise..and sudden death for me..... :D

There’s been a recent ad on TV for some sort of face cream that’s main claim is that for what looks like tiny pot it’s “the best selling cream for over £100”

Bloody leccy kettle not working! Again. I’ve lost count of how many I’ve bought, admittedly cheap ones since I retired my original at least 30 year old one (with no failures).

Haven’t checked it yet, could be just a fuse, unlikely to be overheating as had water in it and this was first thing this am.

Turns out to be the fuse, though that begs the question of why it blew :(.

My parents go through kettles, 2-3 years max. We have kettles that last well over 5+ years. On the other hand they have a toaster that is 15 years old thats used for 3 people every day. We have had 5 in the same time that only one person uses. Makes no sense

Yes, my parents used to have one similar to this, not automatic of course , only toasted one side at a time, you lowered the ‘door’ and put it back up to reverse the slice, never failed. It sat on the table so everyone could get hot toast dome to their liking :). Two slices of corse, same arrangement at the back. I’d buy one if they were still made.

Blimey, you'd never get that one past the safety elves now. :ROFLMAO:

WAMT?

I just had an email from More Than regarding my dog's insurance policy.

Apparently, they've screwed up and got my home address wrong as the new policy has been returned to them.

In the email, they request:

'Please reply to this email confirming the following information and we will be more than happy to assist you further:

· Your full old address and postcode
· Your full new address and postcode
· Your date of birth
· The name(s) of your pet(s) on your policy
· Confirmation that your pet(s) have moved with you to your new address'

I replied saying that I will not return those details in an insecure email and that I am appalled that they would request such a thing. If that's the way they care for our data security then I will be calling to cancel the policy.

Back in January I had a big fall out with one of my sisters caused by me having the temerity to ask her to come and sit with our mother for a few hours once a fortnight (day to be picked by sis) so that me and the Mrs could go out without worrying, go for a walk, maybe have a meal out. She went nuclear which is I suppose understandable considering how cruel and uncaring it was of me to ask her to do this. We've had no contact with her since then and even though she lives next door she hasn't contacted mam in any way, no card or phone call on mothers day or her birthday, nothing.

Anyway.

We're getting the bathroom done and as it's windy the workmen put some cardboard packaging between her garage and the boundary fence so we saw her again when she came round to complain.

My Loving Sister.
Wow. I seriously hope your mum is leaving her out of the will?

My parents had one like this too. They married in 1947, and I'm guessing this was either a wedding present or something they bought around the same time.

Bl**dy bank alarm again, complained about it a fortnight ago as it had been going of repeatedly, final straw being when it went of through the night. there had been a couple of random activations last week and I got a letter apologising at the end of last week saying it had been sorted well last night I can confirm it f*****g hasn't and spent most of the day trying to get through to someone to sort it with little luck nobody in the branch that looks after our local part-time branch would answer the phone so it was just redirected back to customer services who can only phone the same number and low and behold no one answers and it's redirected back to them and now the bl**dy things started going off again I know where I'll be at 10 o'clock tomorrow once they open.

So..Guiseppe wins the The Great British Bake Off tonight. The Great Italian Bake Off.. :D

It's been a good series but almost spoilt...actually spoilt according to my wife.. by the stupid comments and attempts at humour by the two assistants, Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas. I appreciate they're given scripts for some of it but some is clearly adlibbed and to go round each contestant making stupid, childish comments when they are in a stressful situation was not just annoying for viewers (I'm sure) but very inconsiderate to the contestants and it was clear that it often annoyed Jürgen too. I sometimes wonder at the mentality of those who produce programmes for radio and tv.

John could be fibbing about the result!

I think it's too late for that as sadly she's rarely all there now.

He may have missed my thread as not everyone stalks me as intensely as you do John :D

If you recall,Alan..back in January it was me who suggested you get Power of Attorney re your mum.

Stalking intensely ? Ok..you've added a grinning emoji but nevertheless you're suggesting..stating infact, that I take every opportunity to 'have a go' at you. How do you come to that belief ?

First off some of your posts are so bizarre and/or banal that they invite wry comment but in the main no comment as they leave the reader somewhat bewildered. I'm absolutely amazed, intrigued even, with the complexities of your life with, seemingly, a degree of family dysfunctionality. It's also baffling to me, how someone can post such 'private' matters. I recall Marc posting that before anyone posts anything on here just bear in mind you might as well be posting it in one of the Red Tops.I think he said something akin to..'if you don't want the world to know then don't post it on here'

So... lets' take a look at reality shall we rather than perception.? I've looked back at some of our interactions.

There's one other I'll come to re fireworks.

So,..out of 28 of your posts..and no doubt I've missed a few and in just the three categories going back to October 9th I've replied to precisely three. In percentage term that's 7% and one was a positive.(the ice cream). You can hardly describe that to quote you as ...'intensely stalking'. Infact, you must be a tad paranoid because you didn't just refer to me as 'intensely stalking' you, you seem to think that there are others engaged in it but to a lesser degree.

' not everyone stalks me as intensely as you do, John'

There's one of your posts I responed to that I haven't included. Remember this re fireworks ? Some of us think they should be banned or,at least, have no explosive element which is what causes the most distress.

My response initially to Cambsno.

Yes..I see what Alan has written. I'm surprised because most times his posts on serious matters are sound but now and then he comes out with something that leaves me scratching my head..like this post.

You wrote:

A lot of people like fireworks and maybe that's a big part of the move to ban them as happiness and joy seem to be being squeezed out of us in these joyless "it offends someone or harms the plant" days.

Ground the private jets and allow the fireworks.

My response:

Who exactly the 'mouthy hypocritical elites' are who 'pontificate,' I don't know. 'Harms the 'plant' ? You've got me on that one, too. What does that mean ? Maybe you could enlighten us, Alan ?

I used the 'quote' facility so you would have had an alert. You failed to respond.

So, Alan... I don't need to speculate on what could possibly be a reason for the nature of some of your posts as you've volunteered it.

October 16th in response to Box Brownie in a discussion about visualising problems and finding a fix you wrote...

'I wouldn't describe myself as being completely normal. I'm pretty sure I could be diagnosed with something if I bothered.'

Well ,I won't state the obvious re bothering. :)

My God John you really need to get over yourself and for God sake put me on ignore. Please. Do it NOW. Please.

But before you do John it's not completely unheard of for people to post "private matters" here and that is IMO one of the joys of a relatively friendly and yet relatively anonymous forum. I'd have loved to go down the P of A route but my mother has just enough about her to say "no" and going down any assessment and imposing of PoA would be too upsetting and unnecessary as I can (just about) cope and it really doesn't matter to me what's in her will,

Now John. Hit that ignore button... Now!

Larry, if you linger here you'll get to "know" some of the more prolific posters. Good luck with that :D and don't worry about me in regard to any offence about your will comment as there isn't any.

Storm Damage.

But it could have been a lot worse. Years ago a friend of mines husband was killed when a tree fell on his car and I see that sadly that's happened recently too. We've had some roof damage during the night and some fence damage, well maybe not the fence panels as they might be ok but rather some brick posts between them two of which are down. I haven't attempted any clear up as it's still stormy and it's really too dangerous to be out in case anything else comes flying down. So far nothing has hit my car in the drive, nearly, as there's bits of roofing behind it but no damage to the car I can see so far.

Hope everyone else is relatively damage free.

This https://news.stv.tv/scotland/gamekeeper-fined-for-killing-birds-of-prey-that-died-suffering?top

Even when they are caught this is all that happens, is it any wonder that this is still going on even in this day and age.

What amazes me is that such cages can be legally used at all.

There is no way of knowing what birds might be enter and be trapped in the cage and even checking them every 24 hours isn't in my opinion a way of making sure non target species are not harmed.

SWMBO and her inability to recognise that Advent Calendars are taken off the shelves come 1st December. On the two occasions that I’ve bought them, I get them in November. SWMBO sees them in the supermarket, thinks she’ll buy them closer to December, doesn’t buy them, then complains everywhere is sold out on 1st.

Finding out that I was wrong in thinking that the stupidity of our local council couldn't get any worse, then reading this.

A council has apologised for issuing fines to cars after lifting them up to paint yellow lines underneath.
The double yellow lines were painted by contractors in Earley, Berkshire, on behalf of Wokingham Borough Council on Sunday.
One councillor said it was "like a trick has been played" on residents.
The local authority said it accepted the fines were "issued in error" and would be cancelled.
The contractors painted the new lines in Blackthorn Close at the request of residents, the council said.
But soon after the cars were lowered, the authority's parking enforcement contractors issued them with tickets.
Councillor Shirley Boyt, who said the council declined her offer to put notices on the cars warning about the upcoming works, described it as a "fiasco".
She said: "The council have said it was a coincidence, but I think someone tipped off the parking wardens.
"It's like a trick has been played on them.
"The residents can't believe what they've done."

Sounds pretty stupid but I think they have a way to go to compete with this, it's from a few years ago.

We got a new TV and there are four things about it that really annoy me and as I tend to fixate they really annoy me all the time :D

They're all software setup things and all could be covered and changed by user preference options if they were there. As gadgets become ever more "smart" I do wish that alternative ways of doing things could be user selected. For example one function which takes one button press on every other TV or under set box I have takes 5 button presses on the new TV. If it was just me I'd use the TV through the Tivo box as that bypasses the annoyances.

I know these are 1st world issues and no one other than an obsessive will notice or care but these maddening things should be so easy to fix.

The picture quality is good though.

Which tv?
