WAMT....what annoyed me today!

WAMT - inflation through reduction. Doing the weekly shop and picked up a couple of packs of my favourite cereal bars. They’ve been the same price for a while but the pack size was 8 bars about a year ago, then went down to 6 - and now they’ve reduced to 5 in a pack.......

Two things I've noticed recently are smaller bags of chocolate peanuts and smaller bottles of shampoo. Same price, naturally.

I’m of the age/folically reduced status where I’m lucky if I can remember the last time I bought shampoo - let alone how much it cost :D

Just a general dislike: people who appropriate the roads for events.

This Tour of Britain cycle race that's blocking up the roads in South and Mid Devon today is going to cause problems for a lot of people. It wouldn't be so bad if the organisers had to pay compensation to everyone inconvenienced by the event but that's not going to happen.

...and cyclists wonder why drivers are "ambivalent" towards them... :tumbleweed:

The roads the tour has used are nicely surfaced now though... Apart from the lumps of asphalt that the surfacers have dropped on the fresh surface!

Tried to submit a medical notification to DVLA (already told them but they want another :() and told to do it online. But to do that you have to sign up to HMG’s Verify system using either Post Office or another (though the link for the second one wants me to submit on behalf of a company and pay a fee ), so I chose Post Office.

Need 2 documents: Passport (don’t have), photo driving licence, mobile phone contract (which they just call a “mobile contract” so presumably a caravan is OK).

Spent a long time carefully entering all the driver licence details, checked & double checked. Not accepted. Started all over again and still not accepted. Moved on to the “mobile contract”, checked online what details they hold on me (exact address and so on). Not accepted. Did that a second time. Not accepted. I’ve been with them at least 5 years.

Gave up and emailed customer support and got a quick reply “there are many reasons why that could happen”. :(.

I expect this is the sort of thing everyone will have to go through to vote etc in future. The only photo HMG photo ID I have is the driving licence and I may soon give that up or have it revoked.

We are not looking forward to requesting replacement driving licences next year when we reach 70. We both still have paper licences and because we need C1 vehicle class we cannot renew online and have to complete medical and eyesight tests and submit the paperwork. DVLA are currently running a backlog of 10 weeks for paper requests at present...........

If that’s the only option then I’d prefer to keep my receding hairline - and what little bit of dignity I still have :D

Dignity? Lost mine shortly before my virginity!!!

You have been warned :(. In my case filling in the forms offline is proving problematic as their questions don’t fit my interactions with the NHS. Minor example —
Q: When did you first consult your GP about this condition?
A: Never -- are they going to like that? There’s no way to fit it on the form where there are boxes for a date but no more.

Goddamnit!
Approx 6 weeks to all hallows eve, and they managed to slip in an Xmas advert in between something I was watching...

And now you’ve slipped one in here. :(

Did you not get Sajid's memo. Tory MPs do not need to wear face masks in the packed House of Commons because they are not 'strangers'.

Have you seen the mess they made of it, it's pretty obvious they don't.

Not getting a discount for paying for my used car in cash! None! Zilch! No way hose!

I've read elsewhere that the biggest discounts are available to those who take out credit through the vendor. Perhaps the trick is to buy that way then settle with the credit company immediately?

I've heard the same thing, but I've never bought a car in the UK and I don't know anything about this personally. I assume the dealership earns commission for arranging credit and uses some of that to discount the price and secure the sale? Do you have a legal right to insist on settling the outstanding amount immediately/early, or can the dealership or the finance company hold you to the terms and conditions of any agreement?

Sometimes there's more commision on the credit deal than the salesman gets on the car. We bought a new car last October and the salesman was really miffed when we said we didn't want credit.

Can you take it to get the discount ?..In this article the discount on te Jaguar for taking credit was £6000. !!..and yes,you can pay it off but check the small print first.

Greavsey died.
Big hero of mine who deserved a more comfortable old age. We may never see the like again.
RIP Jimmy. :(

I had to go back through my bank statements today and that was annoying enough but what really annoyed me was realising that my gas and electric bill has more than doubled in the last year, and no I haven't move house or taken up mining for bitcoin.

Blu ray players.
I honestly thought they were cheap.

Haven't had one for years , been happy with Netflix up until lately, and just thought about getting a 4k player for my big TV so I could watch some old faves in super duper definition.

But they cost hundreds! Assuming they would be pretty cheap tech these days, but no. But disappointed. My 4k blade runner will have to wait

Oh b****r the last one I bought was about £50 was a few years ago but still works perfectly
At the time you could get perfectly good players for £30
I didn’t realise that they were so expensive now

Amazon seems to have them for £60. No experience of blu ray so maybe there are different i
kinds?

Logging on to a well known sellers site... It says there's no email account with that name registered when I try to log into my account and when attempting to enter as a new customer it says there's already an email account with that name. Can they have it both ways? Apparently so.

And it gets worse.

I decided to change my password in case that was the problem so I entered my email address and selected the forgot password option and then followed the link in the email and entered a new password but it didn't work even though I typed it in and verified it without any warning messages being displayed and now they're blocked my account for multiple wrong entries. What? Every time I've tried I've typed in the correct details!!!!! Feckers.

Done! Logged in as a guest and bought a new TV for my mam for her bedroom as hers died yesterday and it was just about older than me so time to get her a new one. 40" JVC for £255.

Do I ever receive a call.....

Must be too much work about at the moment

I suspect there is. Between the pandemic and the withdrawal of EU tradesmen I imagine that there is a big skills gap, This skilled and efficient tradesman has, I believe, returned home...

It's a common problem. We're currently waiting for a new bathroom. I've rang the bloke twice and have promised myself that the 3rd time will be the last. I'll give him one more chance as he said he'd sort out an issue in the kitchen for free.

Found my iPhone was on ‘Silent” again. Because my hearing is bad and I may not have my hearing aid in its not immediately noticeable. I never deliberately put it on silent, nor previous models, so not sure how it happens.

What is even more annoying is that there is no indication on the screen :(.

Can you set it to vibrate? That could help.
Cheers. Problem is that it’s not in my pocket all the time though in fact that’s how I realised because I have an Apple Watch and that vibrated on a phone call, though again I might not pay attention because it vibrates for all sorts :(. Just wish they’d put a big sign on the screen!

I have a problem with my phone as it doesn't ring for long before it goes to voicemail and there doesn't seem to be any way to extend the ring time. So, it often rings and by the time I've got the phone out of my pocket it's stopped. It's an old Samsung. Another problem is that the screen is impossible to see in anything like daylight. I see people wandering about staring at phones and I think "Can they really see the screen?" :D

Contact your provider - they will give you a code so that you can adjust this. I've had to do this a few times in the past . . .

Get a new phone? ;). You can certainly see the screens in bright daylight.

The answer is YES.
Which phone are you talking about, I've had a lot of samsungs, may last 2 the S6 and S9 I never had a problem with,
Only recently sold the S6 was amazed at how much a local phone shop gave me for an old phone
Yes the one I have just bought is brighter but I don't have the brightness turned up to full

As far as the voicemail goes, I sometimes wish mine wouldn't ring for so long !!!

I wouldn't mind so much if when you rang to book the quote they simply said they were too busy.
Well that's the hat trick this week
Call this morning from a different trader responding to a request for a quote.
I'm over your way this afternoon...see you later.
Has he turned up ??!!!
Just as well I wasn't staying in to wait his arrival
