WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Selling things on here, some folk let you know they got it and signed for but others don`t. Then others tell the delivery lot to keep hold of it, so I give up now

Could be they have gone away for a few days and have what is known as a "keepsafe" in force, where mail
is held at the delivery office pending their return

The person told me to send it to their work place instead of home.

When I worked for RM we had a few companies that for various reasons didn't have the mail delivered, someone
would come and collect it, without knowing the situation it's not possible to know what is going on, but you have the money
and proof you posted it and it has arrived at the LDO so I wouldn't worry about it

And the workplace wouldn't accept it?

I have let Staff know, plus it might be he is on holiday just strange he said where to send it.

Strange, unless they wouldn't accept it because he wasn't there.

His message to me was... I`m back at work so please send it to the address he gave, but he never said he might go on holiday unless he had to quickly so hope he gets/picks it up soon.

We have our (un)fair share of the likes of the scam Amazon calls......with CLI I rely on seeing the number displayed and let them all go to the answer phone. However, this morning a local number came up so, somewhat distracted, I answered it.......

It was Les "calling me about my government energy savings loan". I simply said, sorry mate you have the wrong number.....he hung up. NB he was a Brit with, from the few words he said, no discernible accent.

Dialing 1471 I got the number.......dialed it and got "cannot identify that number" by inference that number is non existent!

They spam the numbers to make you more likely to pick up. The number displayed isn't the number he called from. Still not a good idea to call it though.

Yes, I appreciate they can spoof a number....... though by now I would have thought BT could have been able to reduce such spoofing!

As for calling it.......I preceded the number with 141 which stops transmission of the calling number for CLI ;)

WAMT is having to replace the external LED floodlights around my garage yet again. I have 4 external PIR controlled LED floodlights on my garage walls. These are sealed units so the LED lamp cannot be replaced. For the third time in as many years I am having to replace 3 of them as they have failed. The most recent set came with a 2 year warranty and are being replaced at 11 months old, fortunately I kept the paperwork, receipts etc so the supplier has exchanged them at no cost to me. The replacements claim to have a 3 year warranty, it will be interesting to see how long these last.

BT gets paid for the traffic AFAIK.

If so, they are potentially/indirectly implicated in scam activities :(
The problem lies in the way call charging works across borders. Outside of the EU and North America, BT does not see the the real number of the caller (the "Local Caller ID" or "CLI") as the bill goes to the carrier in the originating country. How this all works is dependent on a rat's nest of treaties and agreements, which is beyond the control of BT.

This has annoyed me for a while but I mention it now because I've just had to sort out the issue.

Near my home is a public footpath that runs behind houses which are on the on left. On the right is a Green with trees there. The residents..well, some residents, cut the branches of the trees in their garden and throw them over their garden wall onto this pathway. These are nice houses and othewise decent ,law-abiding folk. One day as I walked along this pathway I saw a large branch come over. Had I been a few metres further on it could have hit me. Go back at night and throw it back over some may suggest . I thought of that but it would just come over again. One day one of these residents had a real clear out and the pile of branches on the Green was about a metre high, 3m long and a metre wide. A real garden clear out. I reported it to the council who came and removed it. Three men in a large truck. I asked the person who worked at the council office in charge of this sort of thing if they were going to prosecute the offender. It was clear where it all came from. No..it would cost too much to take it to court. What sort of criteria is that. I can't imagine no prosecution happening in France, Holland, Germany, Austria..etc. That sort of thing is happening all the time here ..too hard to prosecute. No doubt its why we have the problems. I recall someone cutting down a load of conifers and throwing them over his fence into the stream behind the house. The local volunteer cleaning people wanted a prosecution but none was forthcoming, the council just removed it all . Hopefully, the person, at least, got a warning letter but I doubt it.

So, a few weeks ago there was a large branch ,thick with leaves which was now at face height over the path. Being wary of how some people can react I thought it better, maybe, to pop a note through the door and went to check on the house number only to find the householder was out on his drive cleaning his car. The garden was immaculate. He said no problem, he'd look at it and he did. To be fair, it's a case of out of sight out of mind and he hadn't been aware of it. He cut it down. On another walk along the path a few days later I saw that the very large pile of branches, well dead...under the nearest tree had not been added too . Some residents went to the path, dragged the branches off it that they'd thrown over and placed them under that tree which stopped the grass-cutting machines from being able to cut there. I thought he'd disposed of it until I saw that it, along with a few more, had been flung across the stream onto the opposite grassed bank and had been hidden by long grass.

There's a huge tree nearby on that Green and the last named storm ripped a large piece out of the trunk and its still attached with the rest of it on the ground. About 3m in length and the council will come and remove it so I spent over an an hour going back and forth with all those dumped branches ,including the ones on the far side of the stream and lugged them to that large tree knowing that the council will take the whole lot but wondering why I was doing it. One man walking by actually stopped and offered to help.

I don't know how people can, without conscience, do that sort of thing. It's easy enough to cut up the branches and put them into the green garden-waste wheelie bin. Infact a near neighbour who lives in a fine large detached house told my next door neighbour, one day, that he doesn't pay £38 a year for a green wheelie bin collection but empties his bin behind trees on the far side of the same brook but next to his home.

All rather depressing.

I am not certain of this, my only knowledge is from a friend of mine who was in similar situation with a tree on council property which was growing over her garden and shading it.

She sought legal advice and was informed that in the case where a tree, or any other foliage, which is on a neighbouring property starts to grow over her property; she is legally entitled to cut it back to her boundary, but no further, and put it back into that property.

If this is correct then it is not the householders who are at fault, but the council for not cutting the trees back themselves.

Trying to locate the eyebrow hair I kept seeing in my peripheral vision.
Crafty little bleeder was actually a hair caught in the hinge of my glasses

Wasted a lot of time trying to pull something out that wasn't there
Isn't life exciting in the time of Covid

If I've read your account correctly and I'm sure I have, you're saying that your friend had a tree ,which was on council land, growing over her property in which case you're right ,that's the responsibility of the council to cut it back but in the cases I was highlighting the tree belonged to the house-owners and protruded over the footpath. Clearly their responsibility to cut it back to clear the footpath or highway.

I have checked and it is, infact ,the owner's responsibility. It seems the Local Authority have people who 'walk the pathways' ( I was unaware of that) and if they see overhanging branches from someone's garden or land they will inform the owner who is given time to remove them. If the owner fails to remove the overhanging branches then an directive is issued to do so. If that fails the LA will remove them and invoice the owner.

However, what I was having a moan about was when an owner does remove the branches and lets them fall onto a pathway or actually goes round to the pathway and puts (throws) them on adjacent public (LA) grassland.

Here's what I found:

I have trees (big chestnut & lime) that overhang the road sufficiently to obstruct double decker buses. I’ve never been asked to trim them but someone does it. Its a A Class road so maybe it’s Highways or Local Authority do it. Not happened recently.

Must be the council,Richard. In these days of cut backs..no pun intended..lol..you'd think the council would approach you. I assume it's a ladders job too. Also, the immediate area would have to be made safe.

My apologies John, I misread your post as meaning that the trees were the council's and not the occupiers of the properties.

I’m almost certain they’ve use “cherry pickers” in the past, I guess they may combine it with street light servicing since we have tall ones here, so it would be quick and not very noticeable.

Last month, I only received 14 of one of my medications instead of the usual 28. Turned out it was because I needed to have a medicine review with the GP. Review done and the other 14 duly arrived.

Fast forward to today and my next batch of medication arrived this afternoon. Same again, only 14 tablets. I contacted Pilltime (online pharmacy) via chat as they no longer take phone calls. They claimed that the surgery only sent a prescription for 14 so I phoned the surgery who were adamant that they sent a prescription for 28! Back to Pilltime who said they'd investigate.

Just received an email from Pilltime saying "We have received your prescription from your surgery and we are now processing it." I haven't a feckin' clue who was right and who was wrong!

They're a law unto themselves aren't they? I went through a similar thing several months ago and am still always one item short with each delivery. I've given up and just don't bother any more - they don't work as they're supposed to anyway, so no great loss.

I tried Pilltime on your recommendation earlier because I couldn’t sort out deliver by local pharmacy (in GP surgery). First delivery disappeared entirely and second one caused trouble because it contained a one-off antibiotic and that got bounced around as Pilltime only do regular repeats I think, ditto some other non-pill items. Eventually I sacked them (though in many ways they were good) but then I got into a situation where online in “SystmOnline”, where I order my pills, the pharmacy kept getting changed back to Pilltime just before, or when, the Dr prescribed and no one could see how it was happening!!! Anyway, sorted now and lots of local volunteers were doing deliveries though now a problem with locals back to work/school etc :(.

TBF, they've been pretty good and the issues have always been with the surgery although, in this instance give they sent me another email 2 minutes after the 1st to say it had been dispatched, I'm guessing this might've been there fault.
