WAMT....what annoyed me today!

No. Noise nuisance is determined subjectively rather than to a fixed SPL.
Cheers Steve. I might try to make a 'polite' enquiry today if she's at it again today.

You council should be able to tell you. Building work is not normally permitted on a Sunday at all. I checked when a neighbour over the road was building an extension. They are supposed to be week day only, stopped by a reasonable time of an evening and knock off Saturday lunchtime. No work allowed on Sunday or Bank Holidays. A permit is needed to contravene these hours.

http://www.cheltenham.gov.uk/info/200040/environmental_health/910/construction_and_building_sites

This applies to proper building work like extensions and such like. It's not clear what householders doing DIY are allowed to do apart from not doing it for excessive hours or at unsocial times. If they keep within the building site rules then it would be tricky to complain.

Found something:

http://www.cheltenham.gov.uk/info/200040/environmental_health/895/noise_nuisance/3

Don't carry out noisy DIY work after 8pm or before 8am on weekends, and if possible never on Sundays. Remember that drilling and hammering are particularly disturbing

Thanks Suz.
I think i'll send the council an email with some rough details

Was getting my two front tyres done as they are down to 2mm, tyre place refuses to do just two tyres as the rears are more than halfway worn as well. Guess it makes sense, just a bit of bummer from an expenditure perspective.

Ah well, it annoyed me for a minute especially as I've only driven it for 17K miles and already 4 new tyres. However it is an opportunity to get some other tyres on...

absolutely nothing, been a great day :D(y)

WTF?

Id be looking for a new tyre place! "more than halfway worn" so assuming 7mm at new you could still have 3mm on there. 1.4mm above legal limit and probably at least 6 months of use still left. Ridiculous.
My fronts are just under 3mm and have been for ages, I bought a tread depth gauge to check. At this rate I reckon they'll be fine all summer and maybe change em before winter.

New tyres are closer to 8mm. But I agree, not necessary to replace the two half worn tyres especially for the summer months. If the tyre fitter refused to replace just the two tyres, I'd take him at his word and leave him with none to change, I'd have gone elsewhere too.

Well, you clearly didn't attempt to get a Godox 80x80cm softbox back in its pouch.
It's all very well making a video to show us how it's done, but I'm convinced the guy in it is a magician. Either that or the rods are made of string.
Is there a way for the ordinary person to achieve this impossible-looking task without the urge to set fire to the bloody thing?

Being woken up at 7am by stupid smoke alarm squeaking for no reason. It now appears to be dead, 9 years earlier than it should.

You'll find that a lot with 4x4 vehicles. They are too concerned about the liability for transmission issues.

Keep the 2 1/2 worns somewhere cool and darkish then next time you get a similar pair, run on the 1/2 worns until they're properly knackered (assuming summer, mainly on road use).

Good thinking. Or sell them on ebay as part worns :)

To be honest they are so cheap now that it is barely worth the effort. I mean Michelin Pilot Super Sport is only £90 fitted for my golf. I can get three tyres for the price of one on our main family car :)

So the wear left is worth about £90 (2 x 1/2 wear @ £45)? While it probably won't make a huge difference to family finances, it could pay for a reasonable meal out for 2 or a day out for the family! I wish my tyres were that cheap. :(

Order test run of product, come back great. Order production run and it's completely screwed up. New supplier needed methinks.

Being of a tender skin type but loving the sunshine nonetheless, I need factor 30 at least so ordered the stuff I usually use (which works well on me, even under Mediterranean sunshine) through Amazon. Arrived just in time but is only factor 20 which isn't enough for my delicate epidermis! Looks like I'll have to buy some P20 at the airport (they do a factor 50 version).

Never mind, I've got enough of the good stuff for a couple of days all over application so all isn't quite lost!

Thanks Suz.

Might still try talking to the neighbours first before calling in the council.

I had a brief 'chat' with the crew that were in there today after getting home from work. Apparently, they believe they can work through to 8pm, so i've emailed the council for confirmation. I've seen some people/forums claim it should be a 6pm finish.

Wamt a train cancellation during peak rush hour due to a member of staff being unavailable. Funny how one person and a whole bunch of management can have an impact on thousands of people. Big fail ThamesLink Rail UK.

WAMT (well, yesterday actually)

Trying to buy a pair of jeans and being offered a choice of jeggings (yes, in the menswear section!), ultra skinny, super skinny, skinny, super slim, slim, and narrow.

My own cock up. Sunburn on the top of my feet! Just enough to make shoes uncomfortable but just about allows the use of flippers. Crocs okay for 200m or so so still have plenty of restaurants to choose from. Life's a beach.

That serves you right for still wearing crocs. What's next, you'll admit wearing a fleece as well? :p

Same as happens every year at this time - being told on news programmes that this is the longest day of the year. Today is the day of the summer solstice but it is just one of a few days with the same day length.

Dave

WAMT?
The days start to get shorter very soon :D

Today is the day of the summer solstice but it is just one of a few days with * APPROXIMATELY* the same day length.
FTFY.

The interval between sunrise and sunset in London is:

16h 38m 15s yesterday
16h 38m 19s today
16h 38m 17s tomorrow

You obviously work to a great degree of accuracy than me, Stuart, as does my MiL, who, I'm fairly confident will tell me tomorrow evening, as she does nearly every year, that she has noticed the day being shorter.

Dave

PS Where did you get your data from? I could only find the day length to the nearest minute.

WAMATW...What annoyed me at the weekend.

Went to a friends 40th Birthday bash on Saturday, and took my Wife and Daughter with me, for the 'Family' part of the day (bbq, bouncy castle type stuff). As some of you may or probably may not know, my Daughter was born with a malformation of her right arm. Ulnar Club hand. As a result, she has a slightly shorter than normal arm, a fused elbow, and only 3 fingers on her hand. Now, im not naive enough to think that she isnt going to experience the predudices of others as she grows up, but what I saw on Saturday left me a little speechless.

Isobel was watching some of the older kids on the bouncy castle and another little girl (around 10 years old) went over to her Mother that was sitting at a table and said "Look at that freak over there". Upsetting as that was, it was the reaction of the Mother that shocked me. When this little girl pointed isobel out, the Mother just looked over to her, looked her up and down and said "Hmmm yeah". I dont blame the little girl at all. It is clearly (at least one of) her Parents that are teaching her that this attitude is ok. There was no correction/guidance given to this girl, and I can only imagine the kind of person she will grow up to be. I feel sorry for her.

Sorry Isobel and you had to experience that.

This kind of thing is happening all to often now, no wonder children are growing up to be disrespectful, bad mannered, little sods these days

Wow just wow. I can't belief the mother. As you say, the little girl is learning and growing up. Although in order to use that language it indicates it is not the first time.

Unbelievable. Those situations should be a good opportunity to provide some balance and education and make this world a better place.

Words fail me they really do :(

I'm sorry that you and your daughter had to have that thrust at you, Nick.
And I agree, its most likely the parents influence, certainly the lack of "correction" if nothing else :(

I was watching the BBC one show about the metropolitan police. It annoyed me greatly. There was issue with gangs on mopeds snatching people's stuff and attacking them and using the moped as the getaway. The met said they didn't want to chase the moped gangs in case they came to harm. Surely criminals coming to harm is a good thing, particularly if they end up dead IMHO.

Then there was the case of the two gang land drug dealers. Good police work got them caught but they got 3yrs and 6yrs in jail. IMHO they should be executed by being shot in the face.

Then there was the 17yr old who killed another 17yr old over £90. The victim gave £90 to the youth for a bike. The bike was never delivered. Txt messages later they agreed to to meet to give back the £90. Lad got stabbed. Perp got 13yrs in jail. Should be shot in the face.

All drug, gang and serious/repeated violent criminals should be executed, even if they are merely youths.

That is just vile Nick. :(
Whilst I'm sure little Isobel is still young enough to not understand such disgusting behaviour, you and your wife are, and I can only imagine how that must hurt.
What chance do some kids stand in life, when their parents are so blindly ignorant as to think that sort of thing is acceptable.
I suspect you were a lot calmer than I might have been.

Thanks Ruth. Suprisingly yes, I was quite calm, but I think that is only because the ignorance of the woman took me completely by suprise. I think it must have just been the shock of it :D

Im not really known for my calm exterior normally.

What annoyed me today ?

'Microsoft technical Services' telling me that I had problems [ nothing unusual in that :P ] and then suggesting I typed something into my Browser which would help - and the lovely lady spelt it out phonetically for me as I'd problems hearing her [ I'm deaf and she was quiet spoken and did not have a British accent ]

TEAM VIEWER ??

I told her I was no allowing her to take control of my computer

Then cam a male voice and after I assured him I did not use Microsoft he told me I was lying as Apple didn't sell to deaf people !!

And then came the abusive language . My phone went down and they didn't clear the line for about 10 mins :)

I HATE these folk and since they are outside the country and any number is withheld you can't do anything about them

WAMT?

Well, it seems that every single bird in Essex decided to take a crap on my car overnight. Ive never seen anthing like it. It appears ive been targeted...

**Edit** When I say 'birds', I do of course mean the flying/perching variety (y)

I don't answer any call with a display number of "withheld" or "out of area" :-)

I decided after about 10 years off, to pick up my guitar again. Had a bit of a play(and I mean that very loosely). My finger tips are absolutely killing me today!
