WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Just a little update, as I posted the original here. Following my MRI, I am due to have a pacemaker fitted on Tuesday, nearer to home at my local hospital. Meanwhile, I am taking things very easy indeed.
Good news. Good luck mate, thanks for the update.

Hopefully this is very positive and will improve your quality of life.

Here's to a healthier future!

I get annoyed when my pc slows down and I know it's doing an update. I'm annoyed because I wasn't asked. Perhaps I would have liked the update to be done after I'd finished doing what I wanted to do? I'm annoyed that these things are done without my permission and secretly with me only knowing what's going on because my pc has slowed to a snails pace and wont let me load and process a bunch of raws.

I use a Mac now but IIRC on a PC you can schedule when updates are downloaded and installed, or set it so it asks if ok to install now or wait

Updates seem to be all set to off but they still happen. I am sometimes asked but sometimes I am not.

I went out and shot about 32 raws the other day with a 33mp camera. When I tried to process them the pc ran slow when creating masks, so much so that I gave up. Later I tried again and it was running normally. I didn't check when the latest update had been done but I knew it'd done one as when I looked in my folder for the day I could see jpeg previews in the raw tiles whereas I normally can't. I normally go into Reg Edit and delete the raw classes so that the raws don't show a preview image. Every time I get one of these secret (or not) updates the raw previews come back.

Finally something that I can honestly say annoyed me today (well at least late last night as to be virtually today)

A bunch of my camera gear got nicked from the back of a taxi !*$%**

Final leg of my journey from Avignon (stressful enough worrying about the impact of a strike day), a delayed Eurostar and then trying to spot our taxi in the madness of London traffic.

Found the taxi, nice man helped putting suit cases in the back. We piled in. Driver has to pop back out as rear door has not closed. All sorted off we go. But the reason the door had not closed was that some low life had stuck their arm in as the door closed and lifted my back pack. It contained..... Sony A6700, lenses, Samsung tablet, best pair of glasses, kindle, Sony RX100 vii, batteries etc. All the images from the trip on the SD cards and "wisely" backed up to the tablet. Obviously all masterpieces ;)

By the way the smooth take was all caught on the cars rear camera.

Don't tell my that I should have been more careful. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I'll be beating myself up about it for weeks. Let this be a reminder to us all. Keep your gear in your hand were ever possible. They are quick and very sly.

Now to find out if insurance will help.

No tablet mean no perusing TP postings over breakfast. The wife will be happy!

I made an appointment months ago to have my electric meter upgraded this morning, specifically as I'm on holiday and I could be here for it without taking time off work.
Eon must have texted me a dozen times right up to yesterday saying we're on our way!! - No they were not, the engineer was a no show :(
No call or text to say they weren't coming but when I checked on their tracking link it says appointment cancelled. So I had to phone and rearrange for a day next month but I have to take time off work for it now = annoyed.

You should be able to charge for your time.

Yeah, there's an automatic £40 payment to my account apparently because it wasn't my fault but I'll lose more than that taking time off work.

Change it and have it when you are at home next - or see if a friend or relative can help

That's the problem, there are few options for appointments (4 time slots per day, no weekends) and I work all week never knowing where I'll be, don't have relatives nearby.

I ordered some L'Occitane shower gels for my wife. I usually get them from Allbeauty but for a while they haven't had them. Other online retailers were "out of stock",too. Strange. I then read that at the end of last year they changed who they distribute to. I eventually found some.

I got Emails...Read from the bottom up.

5. From Retailer. John. Great news. You order is on its way. It's time to get excited and make some room .Your order is out for delivery and will be with you soon. ...

4. From retailer. John. Your order is with your courier.

3. From courier. John..We're expecting your order and will let you know when we receive it.

2. John. Great news. Your order is out for delivery with your courier .

1.John. Thank you for your order. We will let you know when it is out for delivery.

Know what you mean, John.

If I recall correctly, some years ago all you got from the seller was a 'thank you for your order'. That is all I want. If the item doesn't turn up that acknowledgement is enough to take it further; no need for it being out for delivery etc.

Paracetamol. Specifically Morrisons own. The paper backing on the blister pack is so thick it's almost impossible to remove the capsule without crushing it.

That’s pretty normal these days. All it means is “we’ve handed over your order to the courier, so we now have no idea where it is or when you will actually get it. Hope you weren’t in a hurry if it’s coming via Evri”.

It seems to be like that on all Paracetamol packs these days.

DPFs (Diesel Particulate Filters).
Not been able to get my car out for a decent run for a while so my warning light came on recently. Before I could get out for a run, the car went into limp home mode so I did a little research and it seems that once it's got that clogged, it needs a forced software reset... Got it down to the specialist I use and they plugged it in, took it for a decent run or 2 and declogged it.
Mental note made to take it for a good run ever couple of weeks or so!

The two parcels arrived yesterday and I told the courier and he was amazed.

It's the same with regular prescriptions. How people with finger problems..eg arthritis or worse, rheumatoid arthritis, manage,I don't know. Even I struggle at times and I have no such problems. They aren't all like that but most are .I only take 3 tablets and one of them is atorvastatin as recommended by either the government or BMA. Soooo.. what I do is to get one of our sharp-pointed knives and 'scour' one edge of the foil covering .I just 'run' the point along the line and they are then easy to 'pop' out.

Some of the kitchen items ..food in packs or jars must cause many people problems. We have a 'lid opener'..a small plastic utensil and it sits on top of the lid on a jar and a gentle 'ease up' lets the air out with a pop and it opens easily. Quite often plastic wrapping is so hard to open up I stab it with the same knife..lol

Lots of pill pack poppers available for those unable to open the packs with fingers (tempted to get a load from Temu to donate to the local surgery.)

For the jars, I use a bottle opener to crack the air seal on difficult jars - Lidl's big jars of gherkins are my biggest problem!

I think I would challenge anybody to grab the tab on a pack of bacon and tear it open.
I always try, my wife watches for a few seconds, then calmly hands me the scissors

Yep, and then just the tab part tears away leaving the rest of it sealed!

This actually annoys me every day.
Our 4 slice toaster is Russell Hobbs, about £30 . It's rubbish, our previous 2 toasters, (not RH) were both useless as well.

Anybody any suggestions for a 4 slice toaster that toasts evenly across the slice and on both sides?

Yep with you there , don’t remember the last time we had a toaster that was actually any good, our current one was expensive and doesn’t do the toast evenly i have to turn the bread slices over halfway through to get even toast
Kettle is crap too doesn’t turn itself off for quite a while when water is boiling have to turn it off myself

We have a two slice Dualit toaster, brilliant, highly recommend. They also make four slice models.

Booked an eye test online and it took me to their page saying here's a few glasses we think you might like. Easy tiger, can we test my eyes first before pushing the sales please!

Can't help but feel there's a conflict of interest there...

Cheers Jak, I will check them out.

Edit, update. I will speak to the Guvnor, can't see us paying circa 200 for a toaster.

I have some sort of man flu. The first symptom was dizziness and then along came the usual hot and then cold and shivers and a cough. Yesterday I felt about as ill as I've ever felt with anything like this so I just left the washing up and it's still there. I didn't go to bed, just laid on the sofa and nodded off a couple of times. I think I picked this up at church as a few people seem to have gone down with it. The dizziness and fuzziness is the main thing but the shivers are annoying.

Anyone else had this?

Ditto Alan :(
Last couple of days I’ve felt a bit low. And yes, the shivers or shakes.

It could be Covid again, it seems to be on the increase. Your symptoms sound like mine back in July 2024, when I tested positive for Covid for the first time. The symptoms were extreme temperature changes, shivering, dizziness, I lost three kilos in four days.

This is the bane of my life for a couple of years, when I lost feeling in my fingertips. I find it nearly impossible with some tablets and their popper packaging. The Amlodipine isn't too bad, but the Atorvastatin is a nightmare. I also have problems with so called "easy seal" packaging - steaks, cheese, ham. I have pretty much defaulted to the scissor approach.
Had my pacemaker fitted on Tuesday, so I am finding dressing myself is a bit of a chore - cannot lift my left arm/elbow over neck height. Can't have a shower for ten days, until the dressing/wound are checked.

I feel a bit better today but I still haven't done the washing up. Last night I made it upstairs to bed and today the dizziness and fuzziness seem to be reduced and I'm steadier on my feet but a new symptom is a general trembling and shakiness which is odd as I feel stronger. Sorry for anyone else going through whatever this is but the good news is that it was really only really bad for something like a day and a half. Someone from church rang me last night and he's starting with the dizziness so it looks like it's going through us all.

If you get this... Get well soon! :D

Our 4 slot Russel Hobbs works pretty well apart from the cancel button which is a bit iffy, probably needs some switch cleaner to fix.

We paid £39.99 in April ....

2012 so not complaining :)

I think this is beyond human technology. Maybe the Greys will give us one if we comply with their agenda. If even they can make one.

We have a 4 slice Morphy Richards which sort of works but nowhere near perfectly. It is a nice maroon colour though.

WAMT is me ordering the wrong size jacket. I have one from the same manufacturer/selling company in XXL but this style is just a bit too snug so am sending the XXL back and should get an XXXL tomorrow.

At a guess it's because the XXL is a summer jacket to go over just a T-shirt and the new one is a wintery waterproof to go over a fleece etc.. Like I said, MY fault for ordering the wrong size and at least Sportsbikeshop have a very good returns policy and their prices include next day DPD delivery.

We were in a rental villa in Spain some weeks back. They had one of those white, 2 slice side by side jobs.
Looks like it cost £1. It worked perfectly.
