WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Thankfully I bought it from Amazon in the end, so I have about 4 weeks to return it,
I'll give it a couple of days "Justin Case" But i'm not looking forward to the uninstall if it comes to it :(

How about a "proper" armoured cable down to an IP66 socket (or even a pair of 'em!)? That would make any further pump exchanges easier and give you an outdoor socket should you ever want/need one.

I already have the out door sockets, for powering the lawn mower etc.
The pond pump UV filter and other things are wired into a control panel in the (ex) mews.
Yes its a bit of a PITA but It suits my purpose...

Oh and BTW going on the out flow to the pond via the veggie filter it looks like less pumping is happening this morning.

How about cityfibre instead of bt, works a treat.
I had considered them Pete, but not at their prices, and I don't need their sort of speeds anyway.
BT is a fraction of the cost, ( £30 .99 including unlimited mobile phone) and ever since I text "HELP" as advised when trying to contact customer service,
Who then run lines tests, who then told me there is nothing wrong with my line, it was 10 mbs at that point,
it immediately returned to 33 mbs after that text ..
Weird huh? :D

That situation could be stopped at the planning stage.

It's really hitting home just how overcrowded this country is. It must be great to live in countries like France approx 2.3 X larger and Germany...1.5X......this side of the Atlantic. I envy the Americans their space.
But how will the builders make their profit and councils collect more revenue? Three houses in the space of two means more money for everyone and Joe Public loses out as usual.

Today’s rant: customer service at Currys.
I’d wanted a carpet cleaner for a while, mainly for the car. But they’re always big and unwieldy. I spotted a small one online through a forum. Googled for prices. Currys has them in stock for the same price as buying from the manufacturer or from Amazon. Given that I was going to head to some shops near Currys anyway, I thought it would be easier to go in, have a look (since sizes can be deceiving online) and buy it there and then. So today I walk in. I haven’t even worked out where the vacuums are when a staff member pops up and asks if I need any help. I decline because I haven’t even seen if they have the product. I find it, have a look. Great. I’m ready to buy. There’s no boxes of carpet cleaner nearby so I go to look for a staff member. Nowhere to be seen other the one at the till who has six customers. I ended up walking out and buying from Amazon.

I pay about £32pm for 100/100mb, they have just gone up after 28months at £28. I was with Talktalk fttc and was about 24/10 mb but they put the price up to £32 so I switched, The FTTC connection was dropping out even with the cabinate only just down the road. The FTTP has been rock solid since install.

Not bad Pete, but as I said inc. in my price is the unlimited mobile phone, ( sim only obviously)
and TBH even when the service was a 10mbs I hadn't noticed any change.
It was only the fact that I "speed check" from time to time, that I had spotted the drop.
It could have been like that for a week for all I know.

TBH the price is right, and I'll put up with the occasional annoyance, as its always sorted within 2 days, the previous time
when I actually got to speak to someone an engineer was with me next day.
So I can't fault service in that respect.

Probably has "ze dickee teecker". Before I was diagnosed I couldn't work out why I suddenly found myself out of breath after a short uphill walk I'd done many times before. Running was, well, not a good idea. It can happen to anyone, even those of us who are of normal weight and thought ourselves relatively fit. With the right medicine and sensible behaviour the problem goes away.

He complained of having a bad back. I felt sorry for him but obviously, nothing I could do apart from have a friendly chat.

Damn! I forgot what Sherlock Holmes said: "It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."

That Holmes was a right pain in the backside wasn’t he? Always had to be right, it’s a wonder Watson never clocked him :).

I'd been planning on visiting the National Portrait Gallery at the end of September.

I had a quick look on their website and they're closed until Spring 2023. :banghead:

The guy didn't say he had a bad heart but he did say he had a bad back.

Years back I was advised to go for walks to help my back but I can't say it helped but I now have some exercises my physio therapist taught me and have incorporated them into my exercise routine.

If I see him again I'll shine a torch in his face and give him a good grilling for you and then march him to his GP.

In my thirties I developed chronic back pain. After a week in bed, drugged to the eyeballs, I took my doctor's advice and went on an Alexander Technique course ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Technique ). I've had no trouble since.

Weather report on TV and Metro weather app both report a dry weekend albeit cloudy. Great - I’ll paint the fence. I’m half way through the first panel and it starts spitting!

WAM yesterday evening was calling my bank to change my account - a department that's supposed to be open until 22:00 Monday to Friday. First annoyance was being put through to the wrong department at the bank, followed by being put through to the right department at the building society arm of the bank. Rejoining the queue, I got through to the right institution but wrong department who checked the opening times were up to date and put me in the queue for them. 15 minutes later, I got the message that the department was closed. At 20:38.

VERY tempted to withdraw all funds from them and stick them elsewhere but for the time being, I did manage to get the job done this morning - 20 minutes of assorted security questions and sales pitches followed by a couple of button presses/mouse clicks and Robert is my Father's brother.

(Ring doorbell).
Network lag on Ring is a pain. I've taken to occassionally using live view through the day to keep the link fresh.

Postman just rang the doorbell then walked off before I could answer (Ring doorbell).

That really angers me too Marc.

One day last week, there was a knock and I was pretty quick to answer it as my wheelchair was already 'turned on', so no delay on my part.

Anyway, postie had done just that (despite a sign saying DO NOT leave on doorstep), so I rolled on out the door to give him some verbal and was confronted by a gorgeous young girl of about 18-20. I still can't understand how my anger subsided so quickly, when I politely said; 'Please don't leave stuff on the doorstep - it's too easily stolen.'

:(
On the odd occasion that happened to me, unless it was something I was particularly waiting for
( can't pick it up till next day anyway)
I book a re-delivery just to make them bring it back.

I still can't understand how my anger subsided so quickly,

It appears I've done the posties a disservice. The feed when I tapped the notification wasn't live. When I played it back, it was a woman in a RM jacket who waited for at least the full 18 seconds of the recording. :(

I have a Ring door bell (not the latest) and think it’s the most ill-designed piece of hardware ever :(, Why the whole thing is outside rather than just the bell push and camera I can’t fathom. And there should be a wired bell that rings whatever the wireless one does.

On mine you are supposed to unscrew it to charge the battery if it’s not mains connected.! I’ve run a usb back through the door fram so I can al least recharge it without removal.

The basic problem is that it was designed by someone with no knowledge of security devices

What do you mean by the whole thing? All it is is a bell push and camera, isn't it?

I have mine linked to Alexa so she says 'there's someone at the front door when someone pushes the button. Handy when I'm downstairs and my phone is upstairs.

I think you have the same mark 1 that we have.

When we got ours, it was the least bad remote system we could find. We really needed a remote system and the rest were horribly expensive or got bad reviews, leaving us with next to no choice.

I don't mind having to unscrew it every few weeks to charge and I can live with the need to keep going to live view to keep the network connection fresh. On the other hand, as soon as a better system comes along, it'll be the charity shop for this one! :naughty:

The other problem besides the inconvenience of unscrewing is that it obviously makes it easy to steal too :(.

I see they are up to Mk4 now. It’s bell push + camera + circuit board + battery + case to hold the lot. Camera and bell push could probably have been combined any way.

Mines probably mk1 as @AndrewFlannigan says but the camera is a bit poor, though OK, compared to other cheapo cams of the same era :(.

Bell push + Camera wouldn't be much use without battery and circuit board would they? which bits shouldn't be outside?
Everything except the bell push and camera! I’m not saying the other bit aren’t necessary just that they shouldn’t be outside.

WAMT? SWMBO.

She impromptly decides to visit her mother today. Her car won’t start. Why? Turns out to be a flat battery. She suddenly remembers it has been beeping at her “Low Battery” for the past month but neglected to tell anyone. Worse she has had an oil service reminder due flashing up for the past six weeks (I know because I saw it and told her to ring the dealers to book it in).
Thankfully halfords had the correct battery in stock. Just as I finish, her mother comes round to pick her up.

Sorry, I'm still not with you. Why shouldn't they be outside?
1. easy to steal/disable the whole thing.
2. Because on mine you have to unscrew it and take the battery indoors to charge it.

Because if it were inside the door the battery could be popped out for charging or a usb cable attached.

There should also be a “normal“ bell that rings (ie not on your phone or other device.

Need the special screwdriver to take it off

Mine too. It's once every couple of months or so and takes literally minutes

Negates the point of it being easy to install

Why?

Yesterday really.

Collected my car from the Garage after and MOT/ service and cambelt change inc/water pump. and another minor repair
and a surprisingly low bill £450 felt really happy

Arrived home and my newish neighbour who used to live in the same village stopped and spoke, asked where the car had
been for a couple of days, told him it had been in the garage for MOT, he then ask where so I told him and he immediately told me to find another garage as that guy was a swindler and bodge artist he had a car taken to bits and not repaired by them, it was scrapped

I've been going there for 30 years and never had a problem, even get minor bits done free like bulbs/wipers etc. and never
heard of anyone else moan, so spoke to the owner when I went back, seems it was quite true, they couldn't get the bits to
fix it so he's taken it away, last they heard, He'd also done the normal cheap emergency (not bodge) repair for the guys daughter when she was visiting

The guy also mentioned that he had given a car of the same model to someone he knew when it was getting too old]to be worth anything but still running an reliable , makes you wonder

When he first moved in he was always cheerful and friendly, I have noticed that once he gets to know you he does tend to moan a lot

I think I’ve read your neighbour’s reviews on Amazon!

A first today. A delivery from Amazon and the driver (in a white van)asked for my date of birth to input into his handheld device. I told him he wasn't having it and to put in whatever he liked. Not allowed to do that he said so I gave him a date and immediately felt 10 years and some months younger.

I wonder how many people give him their real dob ?

I’d be inclined to report it Amazon. He’s got your name & address and that you have an Amazon account* so I can only suppose he’s invoked involved in identity theft in some way.

*yes, I remember it’s your wife’s but he doesn’t know that :(.

Edit: invoked involved .

Some items require age identification by law; alcohol, knives etc.

He must have thought you looked under age. ;)
