So I'm looking and these things are blurring into a constant stream of pound signs and glass. I'm after a decent all-round lens, rangefinder, (so L39 or LM mount), not too extreme since it needs to be used 1:1 in the R2 and 1:1.5 in the R-D1. Thinking 50mm is really the tops, 40mm and lower a better option. Not silly wide but then 15mm at 1.5x is not so bad as long as I get little or no distortion at 1x. Not wanting cheapie like Orion, or outrageously expensive like asphericals... does anyone have any suggestions that won't break the bank (given that the bank is none too pleased with my spending over the last month right now...), won't be too intrusive and will give results that I won't be too ashamed of? Can't give a budget really but around £250 is a good target to aim for. Right now I have a couple of 50mm Russians and a similar 28mm and I really need to be getting glass that will allow me to use the cameras as they were designed rather than pretend I like the effects of cheap lenses on images...

Thinking 35mm Skopar, 25mm Skopar, 15mm Heliar - and yes they are all Voigtlander since there seem to be few others in my price range!

Thought I would ask people I know know a bit about things first ;)

Arthur, it won't be the first one you want to buy but I am really pleased with the Voigtlander 15mm Heliar. Mine is the L39 so not RF coupled although at 2 stops down anything over 4ft is in focus. I bought min used for a decent price including the finder. It works very well with the Bessa L, but will be better still on an R. Based on this lens I am in the market for some further Voigtlander glass.

Nice, not much in the distortion dept either. The 15 is on the list but might be a little harsh for first off as you say. Mind you (and being brutally honest) the R-D1 would get more use than the R2 anyway so...

I'd think either the Voigtlander 35mm or 40mm f1.4 would serve you well Arthur, not too expensive and sharp with a nice feel to them.

Probably Nick, but the 40 would hit 60 on the Epson... tough choices for me really, considering I never spent for than £100 on a lens before, and that was with the camera body too!

Any thoughts on the 25mm Snapshot? Or, perish the thought, anything other than Voigtlander?

I've got the Snapshot and it's a cracking little lens, they do crop up quite regularly and are reasonably priced if you don't need the viewfinder. I only have Voigtlanders so can't comment on anything else. If we manage to sort out a Norfolk meet i'll bring it along.

I shoot with a 40mm 1.4 at the mo and it's a lovely lens. Got mine for 250 boxed mint and am very pleased with it, great value for money.

Been eying up a 35mm 2.5 recently too as I'm thinking I want a 35mm instead, and the prices of them are very reasonable too.

Taking into account the 1.5x I'd get a 35mm 2.5 for sure :)

If you want really cheap LTM what about a Jupiter-12 35mm?

I bought a Voigtlander 40mm 1.4 from Robert White a couple of weeks ago, £268 brand new incl delivery. :)
They seem to have gone back up to the normal price now, though. :(

I don't want cheap, I have that already. I want some decent glass - hence asking here cos here the stuff gets used not photographed and FB tagged :D

Incidentally, the Nikon>LM adapter arrived today... that 50mm f/1.4 is awesome!
