weekly Viv1969's Try at 52....The Sequel....2016 Week 50, 51 & 52.... And finished

Yeah! I want one too. Excellent - lovely detail. I like wide borders - looks classy and sets it off nicely.

Get your own alien!!
(Oops...wrong movie).

I think this says a little about you Ruth, in a good way

I enjoyed the pic because it means something to you if you see what I mean

Thank you Allan, you're right, it does. :-)

Week 42 - Liquid

Thanks to an old episode of QI, I've been wanting to try this for a while.
So with the assistance of some borrowed strobe lights, an old speaker, a black balloon (lightly oiled to aid reflection), some watered down water based poster paints, food colouring, Metallica played obscenely loudly, and a LOT of mess......I made LIQUID dance!

Not entirely happy with it as there's still some blurring due to the movement of the liquid,.....but it was fun to do.

Wow! that's brilliant Ruth. The set-up sounds interesting and the results very messy but that is one terrific shot.

Brilliant Ruth :)
Nice and colourful, good reflections, nothing to add

Very good indeed, nothing else to say really

Thanks Allan.
I'm please with the colours, and the BG...even the reflections, but the movement isn't properly frozen....Must try harder!

I absolutely love it Ruth ...a very enviable shot for the theme, one tiny thing is I wish the blue reflection was completely in view, but that really is a very minor detail.
Very well done to you .....I would have to hang that on my wall.

Thank you Susie.
Yeah sadly the foreground ran out at that point. Couldn't include any more. :(

Hey Carl, thanks. Cleaning up the mess took longer than the shoot

Thanks a lot Chris.
It's something I've wanted to try for a while, and thanks to the theme and time on my hands (and lots of cleaning equipment), I thought, what the hell.
I might try again though, since it's fun! :-)

Wow - that looks fantastic Ruth - I remember that episode of QI! The motion blur doesn't jump out at me even on Flickr - it looks great

Thanks Em.
I like it, thrilled with it if I'm honest, but I DO see the blur.
I really wish I'd nailed it

Next time! :-)

How can you not be entirely happy with that, it's pretty fantastic.
Loving the colours and the liquid has such a solid feel to it. Great reflections too.
As Susie says. Get it hung on the wall !

Lot of work paid off.

Thanks Shirley. :-)

It's just the movement blur that's bugging me. :-)

Wanted to try this myself for a while :)

Slight blur, as you mention and I'd like to see all the lower splash but really well done for attempting this and producing a fine photograph.

Cheers.

That is an amazing photo Ruth. Apart from the slight motion blur nothing to criticise. All the work has paid off :)

Try it. It's fun! But it is messy. :D

Edit... Oh, and I found Enter Sandman had the sufficient resonance at volume!

Thank you Bernd.
I'll be having another crack at it soon.
The blur does bother me. But for a first go, I'm happy enough. :)

Hi Ruth, great capture for liquid, love the compo and the colors / reflections a tricky shot well done, glad I didn't need to clear up the mess :)

Thanks Nigel.
I can't overstate the mess. :D

Wow Ruth that is brilliant love the bright colours against the black bg

Another one to add to the list to try at some point!

Really, try it...it's a bunch of (messy) fun! :-)

Hi Ruth

I like After.... white plate on white BG (y)

Liquid is amazing ... my fave of the week. TBH, I won't be trying this at home ... things get messy enough without heavy metal, oiled balloons and paints. Well done you.

Thank you David....that's much appreciated. :-)

Week 43 - Cracked

Well.....Crack(ed) :D

Bit miffed that the tip of the needle isn't in focus. :(

Apparently they don't sell crack pipes in Tesco, and they look a bit put out when you ask! :D

Had a tough afternoon Ruth, excellent take on the theme really well composed and lit too

Maybe not in your posh area, you should have tried somewhere like Luton :D

Great idea Ruth. Nice set of props, good lighting and excellent composition. Really well done.

Yes, excellent take on the theme. Composition looks a bit erm ... unlikely tho. ... Deliberate, or not? I does have that Grim Feel as @Hertsman says. (y)

Compositionally, I wouldn't know the gear set up of your average crack user. I'm guessing an empty dirty syringe next to an outstretched dead arm, eventually. :-)

Great photo Ruth, excellent lighting and composition!

This was my other idea (first one was Carl's), but the syringe I've bought on eBay hasn't yet arrived...
