Yes
Hello, I have been on Virgin Media for many years, but have decided to move to another provider. My contract runs out tomorrow, so I got in touch with them to tell them I would not be renewing the contract, and was told that I had to give 30 days notice! I said my contract is ending to tomorrow, and they said that the contract changes to a rolling 30 day contract, but I said, my contract is ending, I haven't agreed to another contract. They said that was part of the original contract. I have asked them to send me a copy of it, but they said it could take 24 hours. Is what they are doing right?

And I said why does it take 30 days to disconnect, when you can connect in a couple of days. I disconnect the modem, and you switch it of in the exchange, why does it take 30 days! It just takes 30 days was the reply. :headbang:

This was after 20 mins on the phone and not getting through, 2 hours and 20mins on their Chat, and not getting a real person. Then another 20 mins on the phone till I got through to someone. With this person I said I don't want to continue after my contract ends, to which he says could he off me a deal, which I said no to, and he goes and offers me a deal anyway. He then puts me though to their disconnection team, which was another 10 min wait. And again, they said can we offer you a deal, I said you can't match the deal I am going to be getting, "we can do it for £40!" I said I am going to get getting it for £24. And that's when the 30 day disconnection came up. :$:headbang:

I must say, this is the first time I have had trouble getting through to them on the phone after more than a few minutes. They have gone downhill. Glad I will not have to deal with them again.

A very frustrating evening and I had to get it off my chest.

I always understood there was a 30 day cancellation period with VM. Not something you want to hear.
I could understand it if I were inside the 18 month contract, but the contract was ending, another contract should not automatically follow on from that, otherwise it should have been an 18 month + 1 month contract!

If the contract was at an end, it is not a cancellation fee! I have just chosen not to renew.

I was with TalkTalk for years, and would negotiate a decent renewal price at the end of each contract until they refused to do a deal on a 12-month contract, so i went onto a rolling contract.... Then one day I was informed that a massive price increase was being applied to my account.... Looked at was was available and NowBroadband came in at not only the best price and but also on a 12-month contract.... so initiated switching over to them... As soon as TalkTalk got notification of the switch they started begging me to stay..... I phoned them up to discuss what they would offer but they still wouldn't match what NowBroadband offered me, so told them I was not interested in renewing and to stop harassing me by email, SMS and phone.

Glad I switched over because I saw an instant improvement not only in line speed and but also reliability...... I had phoned TalkTalk a few times about line problems and they always tried to get me to run tests on my home network even though I already knew that was not the problem I worked on data and signal transmission systems so am well-versed on fault finding but the TalkTalk service reps wouldn't listen to me and would only stick to their fault-finding script so I gave up talking to them

Virgin had offered a deal of £36 for 150mbs + landline 18 months ago when they were threatening a raise the price to £46, and I was going to change then. At that time, I didn't go on to try and 'negotiate' down, and the person must have sensed that, as they offered to continue the then current £36. That current offer ended somehow before the end of the contract, going up to £46 last month, and up to £55 this month. The new company is offering 150mbs for £24. As long I can get that installed. ;)

We got rid of Virgin about 5 years ago. The 30 day cancellation clause was in their contract back then too, so it’s nothing new.

If you threaten to cancel, sometimes they’ll put you through to the retentions team and you might get offered a better deal. Seems to be hit and miss. Or you can actually cancel and there’s a very good chance they’ll call you a few days later and try to get you to stay by offering a better price. I don’t know why we have to go through this song and dance with internet and tv suppliers but it’s common practice.

I cancelled VM a few years as the service was awful and went back to Sky. Sky offered me a much better deal at £75 a month TV/Phone/Broadband whereas VM was £119 a month. Got a call from the VM retention team the next day. They offered a new price of £93 a month!

i suspect somewhere buried in there terms and conditions is the 30 days thing however if you believe you are right just tell them to end the service as you will not pay any further bills
and inform your bank to cancel the direct debit or you can do it on your phone app

usually though you do get a few emails as your contract runs to an end advisising you of this and the price rise? did you get these and respond?

personally i love VM i have the very best connection been in my house for must be 26 years back to telewest and ntl its 200mb and never misses a beat

Cunningly, when I complained to VM about an increase last year, they offered to reduce the price by1/3 which was enough to keep me. However, they did make it clear that I was under contract again take it or leave it.
