All,

Owing to a recent arrival of a Nikon D810 - it's awesome :D - I am looking at moving my D7200 on and going for a D3 for sports - I know it's old technology, but it seems to be a great piece of kit and should be able to take the flying balls that seem attracted to my cameras.

Anyway, I have been looking around and some of the D3's I have seen have significant cosmetic wear (no big deal) and very low shutter counts.

I simply cannot work out why - the only logical reason I could think of would be a replacement main board in the camera to reset the shutter count perhaps?

Any other ideas?

I have of course seen others with cosmetic wear and shutter counts in the 180-500k which makes sense!

Replacing shutter box doesn’t reset counter so I believe......... landscape togs don’t rattle off 500 shots at a location generally !!!

I can go out and come back with one shot

Define 'low' shutter count. 30-50K is still low-ish for a pro body. As Mark suggests, if the bodies were used by landscape photographers, they may have been out in harsh conditions but only shot a handful of frames per outing. It's most likely paint wear, I don't think the paint jobs were as tough back when these cameras were made, but the chances are the internals are still perfect. Look for sellers with high ratings that offer detailed descriptions.

Thank you gents.

I have found a D3 with 11k... which seems very low. Hence my posting.

However, I just checked and I purchased an extended warranty with my D7200... that expires in 12 months, so little point in upgrading at this point given that I am still covered.

But I do like the D3!

Of course, the value of the D7200 will drop in a years time too!

You’re right, replacing the PCB resets the shutter count, as I discovered when my D810’s was replaced.
