Urban Exploration Gone Insane - I've lost my mind :(

Dude, cant tell you how bad! I usually urbex alone - this is a brand new site, someone was in there, right outside the door for ages!

My plans for solo urbex will possibly change :(

At least the D300 and Tokina 11-16mm are all good :)

funny how the mind plays tricks..

like at night when youre sure you can head footsteps coming up the stairs.. did i lock all the doors and windows?? etc

dont get me wrong id cack my pants quicker than you could blink in that situation but theres always a rational explaination.. :)

I live in "supposedly" the most haunted village in England and I dont scare easily anyway but there is no chance i;d go alone, unless I was built like a brick **** house!

 Agreed, I wish it was that. The doors are all heavy fire doors and the foot steps were totally real. Inside this derelict asylum you could hear a pin drop and hear the echo :)

Junkies are the usual explanation - they like to hang out in derelict places, could have been another urban explorer, security guard, someone scouting the place to rip the copper out of it - you name it...

I was in there with about £2k of camera and lenses - not so cool :(

 I aint small at 220lbs and not that fat either, can hold my own pretty good but this broke me and I hid in the corner of a room for an hour

The asylum is huge, would guess about 150 rooms... very dark too, most of the windows are boarded up and I did not have my usual head set and torches...

Mental note, prep next time and don't go it alone :)

hehe id probably of legged it after 5 mins on my own to be honest..

yeah best to go in pairs, especially into derelict buildings.. and have a large monopod to hand for defensive measures lol

That'll learn ya! Imagine the asylum wasn't actually shut but was in fact operating behind closed doors. You might still be in there if you'd been caught by 'em! Now that ain't worth thinking about.

Good shots by the way.

deeply scary and great shots, interested in getting into urbex and that made me think twice about it.

Great story and some pretty nice photos as well, just out of interest what sort of range you are bracketing your exposurses over? Good website, but I'm slightly disturbed over the 'knife' choice in your kit list, I guess you might be able to explain away a blade on muti tool, but not the other one. I can imagine waht the police would say if you were ever searched, and you've got to admit urbex'ing chances are at some point you are going to bump into them.

Great Story with images to go with

Who was it that said "you have nothing to fear but fear itself"? FDR wasn't it?
The mind has a wonderful habit of playing around with your sanity
in places like that, but then as a part time "ghost buster"
I would find it interesting :)

Looks like something from Silent Hill. Your mind plays tricks on you in these places though, probably a rational explanation for it all like the wind blowing the door shut or something.

Sounds excellent!

One of the best bits of urbexing is the adrenaline of nearly getting caught!

:D Cool story, but I can't help thinking that there's possibly another urbex togger out there somewhere, who has exactly the same story to tell from that same night - the other footsteps, perhaps :naughty:!?

excellent shots and story

loved reading it and living every minute of it through your words

I have goosebumps!! You are one brave tog!! Love the pics, and the story to go with them. Well done!

Need something - this is :cuckoo:

Thanks! Don't do it, I'm into horror films - last night I felt like the screen star

Dont hold back, urbex is wild!

First shot is to judge exposure - looking for evenly distributed histogram, once I've got that I shot 1EV exposures 9 times internally - that way when I post process I dont have no blown highlights.

Combat knife is not for combat :gag: I watch too much Bear Grylls

err, wow amazing story and great photos must have been scary as hell don't think i would have lasted very long in there!

Thanks dude - I've never been so scared :cuckoo:

Agreed, doing lots of urbex helps rationalise so its even worse when you can confirm that your mind is not playing tricks, very sobering

Excellent stuff. I'd like to get into this.

Do it, there's nothing like the buzz available

Good call however can confirm its not the case. Every door was a weighted fire door - each fire door takes on average 10 seconds to close and has a very distinguished closing sound. In an abandoned asylum, one of these dudes closing sounds like a bomb going off. The foot steps were very very real, as was the game of cat and mouse. With all honestly, I assume it was security guards - this place is heavily guarded!

Sounds excellent!

One of the best bits of urbexing is the adrenaline of nearly getting caught!

You know it, my only concern was caught by whom? Security and police I can deal with no problems - I can almost recite the laws of trespass. Junkies and theives have no such laws :(

excellent shots and story

loved reading it and living every minute of it through your words

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

Quite possible - I was wishing for this! I heard no camera snaps which sucked, maybe they had a compact

I can just imagine someone else posting a similar story elsewhere having been terrified of you :D

 I can only hope so...

I have goosebumps!! You are one brave tog!! Love the pics, and the story to go with them. Well done!

You watch horror films, you know, when the bloke or woman goes into the cellar when you know whats down there... I can almost hear you saying "You idiot, dont go down there"

I'm compelled to get the shot at all costs - thanks for saying I'm brave, in reality I'm pretty dumb. Brave is not hiding in a room, thats the mouse! :)

Hey Sophos, there's someone on here laughing their ass off at you thinking 'so that's who it was hiding in the corner' :D Cool shots, and a chilling story. I think I'd have bolted straight off and took my chances using my camera as a club

So where is this place then ?

I hope you understand when I say that I can't give location details YET! The entry point can be easily removed, if that happens - no fun for anyone. Next time I'm in I'll sort another access point then let people know...

Brilliant. Excellent story bud, at least you're okay!

Thanks dude, shaken but not stirred :)

I would like to meet them and shake there hand! They go me proper. I know some of the props that urban explorers use, walking into one of them scenes would be terrifying

Check here to see what I mean

That pic has a S.T.A.L.K.E.R ish feel to it. Love it.

Just give us a clue to what part of the country it is in, North or South of England ;)

If it's Dorset I'll come help!

I don't suppose you want to get me that server rack in the IT room next time you go do you?

Great shots, and story to go along with it...

Christ, that would put me off Urbex for GOOD. No way would you catch me in there. NO WAY. The first time, maybe. But footsteps in somewhere completely abandoned?!?! If you go back then I'm extremely jealous of the size of your nads :shake:

Sorry to be a partypooper but it would have been less spammy if you had posted the photos here rather than link straight to your new site you only just set up. Also, title of your website and style of title/logo is noted.

Sounds like one hell of a creepy place! I'm considering going and taking some pictures in derelict places, in my town there is a hospital and a theater. And I'm not sure about this, but there used to be an asylum called Cane Hill not that far away, i think the vast majority of it has since been knocked down.. Not sure if I am big enough to fend for myself, will make a note to go with others! :D
Great story great pictures.

Would be fun to go urbexing dressed up like that though, scare the bejeezus out of anyone else there :P

Wouldn't be surprised if people were raiding a recently abandoned place like that. Like someone said, server rack units will fetch a few quid, even the cabling.

Matty - this was not supposed to be spammy at all, the entire story was on there along with photos, it was late so I just posted the link. As I've been here a while and have contributed I did not think this would be a problem (would fully agree if I was new here)

Thanks for noting it - I'm not sure why ***, if anything its a compliment to this site. I was bashing domain names around to find something fitting to people who enjoy urban exploration, this one footed the bill - the pipe was included by the SEO plugins, this is done in lots of site for SEO reasons. The site is focused on a niche and not a competitor, you will even see that I have included a permanent link to talkphotography.

Can you PM me if you have more specific concerns - I really enjoy this forum and dont want any bad feelings
