I do not believe that women should not play sport, there are many sports that they can and do play, these are beneficial and in general terms they are not 'unfeminine' or 'brutal' in nature.
I believe in women being 'feminine' ... I do not like to see women fighting as I think it demeans and degrades women in general and is contrary to the natural role of women (and no I don't believe women should be tied to the sink surrounded by children!).
 
I still say female mud wrestling is good for the nation

Very surprised, in this day and age I wouldn't hesitate to allow my daughters to go to "self defence" clases :shrug: If they got good enough at it to go to the Olympics - so much the better IMHO

Well I'm sorry old man, but if you don't like seeing it, may I suggest turning off the television and not watching it?

I think you'll find we women are quite capable of deciding for ourselves what we do and do not want to do / participate in, and frankly I find your attitude demeaning and degrading.

You do know they gave us the vote, right?

In rugby you score by placing the ball on the ground in the goal area. To do that 99%+ of the time requires running into/ through a number of hard hitting tackles.

Pretty much no protective equipment is used unlike in boxing.


My point? In contact sports contact is required to score/ win.

So why does it make a difference to you that the contact itself is what scores the point in boxing rather than just being a precursor to scoring?

What do you think about male gymnastics? I mean, it's pretty feminine of them to wear that tight clothing and prance around the floor doing dainty little twirls. Hardly the 'natural role of men' :bonk:

I can see the logic of being against violent sport - period (although i'm not myself) , but being against violent sport for women only becauise it might damage their pretty little faces and make them less attractive is so sexist and outdated its hard to believe you are serious
 
Actually, a part of me agrees with Gramps, I feel slightly unhappy with female boxers.....

.....but delighted she won!
 
Nothing wrong with women in contact sports. Most martial arts are in fact much better physically than many 'conventional' sports.

Countering the 'pretty faces' getting hit argument. I would much rather go for a drink with Jade Jones than Nadzeya Ostapchuk!

I believe Gramps knew here when she was a mere teenager, and even then he was trying to disuade her from, "all this spear and chariot nonsense".

Personally, I think his views on women and sport are appalling.

There's some seriously touching people on here....

I disagree with women boxing - it just doesn't sit right with me due to its brutality - but then again, I don't agree with men's boxing either for the same reason. Pads or no pads, and even with a structured points system to justify it as a sport, boxing is too primal for my liking. I don't mind contact sports like tag and tournament hand-holding but boxing is a step too far for me...

But much of male gymnastics (rings, pommel horse) is based around strength and stamina and is a show of physical performance. Running around with a ribbon on a stick might be a step too far though... ;)

I know, I'm a big fan of male gymnastics. I was being sarcastic, giving a comparatively narrow minded view about a male sport.

The sooner these archaic perceptions of gender roles are gone the better for society.
