UK Population

Yeah, but double bubble is so tempting, it's rude not to. ;) Not working myself, tomorrow off to Goodwood. :)

Car parks open at 6.30am and you want to be there pretty soon after as the traffic later will be complete crap! :D

...and I am jealous...

Is that from your God who disapproves of slavery? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Nah, it's from Ozzie he doesn't disapprove ;) plays a good tune as well.

I hope to be knocking on the gate to open. :) Been 10 times since 2003, always go on a Saturday but didn't order the tickets early enough and they sold out, so Sunday it had to be. Watched most of it at work on Friday and again this morning at work. My youngest son has opted not to go, so if you can prove you are under 21, I'll leave you a ticket at the gate. :)

Sundays the sabbath. Thou shalt not work on the sabbath :)
Honestly, its not work, spreading the word is not work its a pleasure :D

Saturday is the Sabbath.
I thought it was Friday
Honestly there is me trying to spread a little light into everyones life and you are arguing already :(

NO! he was inviting you to come to the Sabbat you prune :p

I've driven through and all over France and to me the place, roads, towns always seems deserted, apart from Paris. A quick Google confirms they have a similar population to the UK though, which feels incredibly overcrowded.

It just says more about the idiots on the road here in the UK than anything else. the Netherlands are more crowded and also have less traffic.

Unfortunately I have to go to Watford tomorrow :(

...and there is no way (short of the person on the gate being blind or drunk or both) that I would get away with under 21! :D

There is a lot of the 1800s that's due back.
No news on the Christian attitude to slavery though?

Come on Steve, you can do it, admit that most religions have a horrific past.

Ok I admit. Mainly to avoid a Sunday afternoon terror of a thread.

The official line on Christianity and slavery is no one could be born into slavery so if two slaves had a child they could be free. Even in America I believe this was the case.

Slaves who bred in the US certainly weren't freed.

If you are in to statistics the scary bit is world population
From adam and eve to 1950 population was about 2.5 billion
from 1950 to 2015 in 60 years we have reached just over 7 billion thats some acceleration

The empire :)
It always intrigues me, when someone declares their desire for the return to a period where they did not exist ... so for that, i'd be happy for that period when ST4 did not exist.
But seriously, where did your own particular ancestors stand in the great days of empire ST4? Did they even really appreciate it at the time? I assume you do mean the british one

What you believe and thousands of years of history don't quite fit together - but we'll leave it there; you've admitted you haven't got a clue and proved it with an unresearched example :p

This^
How many ordinary citizens (working men, women and children) got more than a warm glow looking at the Atlas with it's swathes of pink whilst they were living in abject poverty.

This is scary, and something politicians ignore (although short of genocide on a huge scale there is not much they can do).

It is scary that non politicians ignore it too.

It's scary when 'big government' tries to do something about it and ordinary people call it barbaric. And the large corporations have convinced us that big government isn't to be trusted (because it's easier for them to buy smaller governments)

It's also scary that we allow the most influential church in the world to condemn all forms of birth control (but I think I've probably done too much religion today already).

How much of the UK's land mass is populated do you think? Go on. Take a guess.

Mine weren't part of the British empire, but most definitely did a good trade in between the fights. Also led a very very comfortable life, more than now I dare to say. We've got our history very well documented to about 1647.

And yes with today's lens on it, the situation abroad wasn't great. From the transcripts I read it was hard work to protect our families workers. Very different viewpoint internally vs externally. Mainly due to a handful w******s just like today.

Certainly less than 20% but then there is a much that its not viable to colonise or practical to build on.
Should we turn it all "concrete"?
Should we colonise the 70% that is water instead of head for the stars?
Stay tuned for this and other weird facts & answers folks (y)

I've told you already. Too much.

How much of the land is inhabitable anyway?

Why would you want more people here when you could have less?
Because immigrants are net contributors to the economy. We're richer with them than without.

But anyway, just put aside the fact that you apparently think that "too much" of the UK is populated regardless of the numbers and just take a guess at how much of the UK is populated (as a % of land mass) just for the pure trivia of it. Go on.

It is less than 20%, yes. How much less?

Of course I'm not in favour of concreting everything. I just want to see if we can expose the availability heuristic that's evident in this thread.

I'll make it easier: we'll exclude Scotland since most of the country is made of mountains.

I could google that but I can't really be arsed TBH.
Less than a 5th is colonised the other 4/5th + is there for a reason, farming, wildlife, people to take holidays.
If it was practical or viable to build on the rest I'm sure it would have been.

But who's to say in the distant future if we continue to expand the way we are at present, that it will be necessary to displace all of nature for our own selfish needs?
I live on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, and I have done for many years, I've seen 89 km² of farm land go under concrete in the last 40 odd years.
Not a pretty sight!

Much less than a fifth.

I'm not quibbling about building over nature or whatever. That's a different discussion.

For whom?
Me I guess for not reading every single post or thread posted on TP,
I'm off to sit in a corner and think about what I've done, (or not done)
:(
