Two Lancs flying together!

Strange. Not scheduled at Southend until tomorrow.
They appear to be flying out of Biggin Hill this weekend.

Southend was a positioning flight It leaves there 1435 today ;)

That plot looks like they were checking out Kenley for the flypast tomorrow....................................just that the weather looks a bit pants for that area :(

Nope I just stood and gawped....with all the other people standing on their drives

They have left Southend now, managed to pick up a couple of mediocre shots as they came in to land, but not together unfortunately.

From one guy I spoke to, they were due to land at Biggin Hill, but had to divert due to high wind speeds to Southend. Because of expected high winds for tomorrow they have cancelled the couple of appearances they were due to make and have not long taken off again to go back home, wherever that is.

Apparently they are scheduled back here Thursday.

....... not long taken off again to go back home, wherever that is.

Both landed back at Coningsby. They might display at Sywell tomorrow dependent on the weather but all other appearances tomorrow have been cancelled due to the forecast winds further south.

was hoping to see them at Biggin Hill tomorrow ( 5 minutes from me ) but sadly due to high crosswinds and the direction of runway they will now be departing from Southend for there trip down to the south coast.. so gutted

Does that mean they have cancelled all the planned Sunday 17th appearances??? I was hoping to see them at the Kenley flypast. The listed appearances are here http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx and looked like a full day starting with Kenley and ending in Cambridgeshire!

Lancs flew overhead today again with what looked like a spit and hurrican as escorts

Mrofs
It was too high up to be sure in identification could well have been another fighter

Found this on the RAFA Kenley website:-

Flypast cancelled !
It is with regret that, at tea time tonight (16/08/2014), the BBMF made the decision to cancel the flypast at Kenley tomorrow.
This is due to the predicted adverse weather conditions for the Midlands and Coningsby area which they do not want to risk flying these valuable aircraft in so they have flown back tonight.
Obviously this is a great disappointment to both the BBMF team (especially the Canadian Lancaster who wanted to fly over Kenley to honour the Canadian pilots) and all of us.
The Portcullis Club will be open as usual and the wreath laying ceremony will go ahead as planned at 13.00.

I saw these on Thursday and yesterday, neither time did I have my camera available as they flew over my house. Did manage to catch a Vampire as it flew towards the sun (so the legends are untrue - they can be captured on camera and go out in the sun) then discovered it is Eastbourne Airshow this weekend

They flew over again this afternoon with two spitfires.
I'm assuming en route from Southend to buzz the military odyssey at the Kent County showground.

Saw and heard them yesterday and was humbled. Such great, lumbering beasts compared to their fighter escorts. A truly once in a lifetime experience (probably) and one I feel quite privileged to have had. So glad I never had to be in one in anger 70 years ago.

Really looking forward to the Bournemouth Air Festival this week

I was flying down to newquay from southend on saturday and they both took off in front of us! awesome sound.

This weekend was the penultimate showing in the south until 11th September doing the Guernsey & Jersey airshows then the 12th & 13th at Goodwood Revival..........all other dates are north of London as listed here http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx

I was glad I saw them last weekend at the Dunsfold Wings & Wheels..................or should I say from a vantage point on the flight circuit adjacent to the show. FWIW Jersey airshow is nice and on a prior visit to the island I also went to the airport and got some closer in views of the aircraft movements. Whether the 'flight' will be landing, I cannot find any ref to that aspect?

Hiya, does anyone have any links to the actual flight path of the bombers as opposed to just the fly past where/when site? I'm interested in their flight line between Blackburn and Holmfirth this coming Sunday. I've had a Google but drawn a blank, cheers.

I doubt it though I read that Flight Radar (software) sometimes shows the Canadian Lancaster because that is a civilian registered one unlike the BBMF which is a mil air flight and as such carry different transponders. I surmise they do have to 'publish' their flightplans but whether is available in the public domain I have never seen mention of that???

Thanks for reply :). I did wonder if it may not be available to the public. Shame though, at some point they have to fly through the lower pennies, if its up through the valley from Greenfield to Holmfirth there's some excellent photo opportunities

Whether they need to publish a routing depends under which rules they are flying eg. when the Canadian Lancaster traveled to the UK it did so via airways and the route was in the international flight planning system (and if you were listening to the ATC before it did it's final leg you would have heard the routing being given and read back by the aircraft). When travelling about between appearances it is usually at low level and not in formation so doesn't need to issue a route for other users. Because the flypasts at places like Windermere are scheduled as an 'airshow' they are NOTAMED. eg: (these 'include the Canadian lanc)

Travelling between places will usually be fairly direct

The sparrows normally transit at low level but have their routes NOTAMED because they fly in close formation (unless visibility is poor) eg:

Again, they will travel directly between these points.

The sparrows rarely transmit ADS-B data.

All of the BBMF aircraft are fitted with ADS-B transponders but do not routinely transmit position info. users of websites such as flightradra24 will rarely see positions for BBMF aircraft as FR24 has poormulti-lateration capability so far. However, master users of Planeplotter software will usually be able to use multi-lateration to determine the positions even at low level as long as they are transmitting their ID.
The Canadian lancaster is fitted with ADS-B but has used it inconsistently whilst flying in the UK

The raw NOTAMs , as shown above are accessible online (via DoD, NATS etc) but for non-pilots the easiest way to look at them is probably via sites such as:
http://ukga.com/gis/notam
http://notaminfo.com/

They flew right over the top off my house in Norland ...........

I wasn't at home!:banghead:

Gutted they didn't fly at Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago, thought I was going to miss it completely then yesterday we went for a drive over to Swanage and as we left the ferry I heard a load roar over the car ... looked up and saw a Lanc, was suitably impressed until I heard the same noise a couple of seconds later ... looked up again and saw another one. :)

Managed to get to Windermere last Sunday, quick flypast but it was lovely. Didny find any spots at height, had to abandon the idea and make a rapid descent to the shore, what felt like near vertical decent...the latter stages on my arse!! Imagined they would be close and that 300mm would be enough... should have broke out the extenders!

Lovely shots Jonathan, at least you got to see Vera. The only chance I had was at Shoreham, never mind I will have to save up and travel to Canada! Still I think that everyone will agree that it has been truly wonderful to see two Lancs fly again, and who knows if Just jane ever gets back in the air we might get 3 together. It has been the flying event of the decade for me.

Thanks for that. I managed to see all three on Sunday. The light wasn't great however it was absolutely magic and the first low head on pass made me smile like a Cheshire Cat

Not many chances to see them flying together now. Saturday and Sunday at Southport airshow and they'll be overnighting at Squires Gate (as will the Sparrows)

Since changing to digital I don't have the kit for aircraft shots over Windermere but grabbed a couple of snaps for the record when I was up there.
