Does anybody know which of these is correct for stacking two 1.4 converters with a 300mm 2.8 lens. Would I get a 840mm (300mm x (1.4+1.4)), or will I get a 588mm (300 x 1.4 x 1.4)?

588

Ok. I thought as much. Thanks guys.

Just be aware that you can't stack two Canon 1.4x converters although they can be stacked with third party offerings.

And of course you can stack two, or indeed several, Canon 2x extenders.

GUESSING (since I'm a Nikon and Fuji user rather than Canon) that the 1.4x converter will need to be closest to the body so... lens - 2x - 1.4x - body. Not sure that the 6D in Stewart's picture will retain AF... ;)

You can't stack Mk III extenders

A 2xMkII is the only extender that will fit onto the front of another extender (Canon MkII and MKIII's specifically).

I have a 1.4xII and 2xIII and can't get them to fit each other either way round.

You can only stack the MKII versions of the TCs, MKIII versions won't stack

two canon 1.4x II won't stack. you can stack a 1.4xII +2.0xII but the 1.4 has to connect to cam.

I wonder what sort aberration will be produced from stacking 5 2xII??

What reach is that? :D
It's an 800mm f/5.6 lens with four 2x extenders, so the end result was 12,800mm and f/91 wide open.

Autofocus was not possible, though perhaps we should have tried the old trick of taping over the pins on the extender.
