I remember the days when Audi were considered the poor mans BMW.
Not any more!
However there are folk with the basic 116d that act like they had a Bentley continental

If you had special training (which you have) then you are fine. The point is that handling of rwd cars is unintuitive in challenging situationsI've breve had problems driving rear wheel drive cars. Look at your driving as unless your being hamfisted, you won't go into a ditch in a Mercedes or BMW, even if it's snowing.
So is the false security of 4wd as it really doesn't help you through fast corners where traction brakes. Driving style for and against and adjusting speed is irrespective of fwd, rwd, awd.If you had special training (which you have) then you are fine. However if you want, plenty of models from bmw and Mercedes about with awd. And also with fwd.

It isn't unintuitive at all. Point the car in the direction you wish to go in, treat the car with respect it will not kill you or go sideways. It's fine.
Neither are cheap old jap carsnot sure what the special point is aimed at? Just because you don't get how to respond to rwd that that doesn't mean other people don't?
My point is you don't buy those cars because they are [not] special, but rather because you like some technical aspect or at least a price tag. Too many people still get orgasm when they go to a dealership of a certain brand. That probably includes a BMW mini hence this point is relevant to this thread. A special car is perhaps something not mass produced in large numbers or just pretty rare and has some unique qualities.
The sheer fact you either need to either drift or pensioner these cars in the bend is scary. Also rear wheels are always trying to overtake the front in case of the smallest incentive on the road surface. I would only hope that ESP has gone a long way making the reps much safer in their 5-series.
