Tubes will increase the magnification more but you'll need quick a stack on a 150 to get a big improvement. The light you lose will probably negate the result.I got a Sigma 150 for xmas which is enormous fun, but if I wanted to get an even more magnified image, are extension tubes the way forward? If so, can anyone recommend?
cheers

hahaha, that is the coolest macro light i have seen, could have saved myself a few quid. Patent it quickly![]()
Tubes made a vast difference on my tamron 90. It seemed to give me more than 2x the magnification of the lens alone.
Dan,
Adding extension to a 90mm will have a greater effect than adding the same extension on a 150mm.
In rough terms, a 50mm extension will double the mag on your 90mm but it would require 75mm to achieve the same on the 150mm. These figures don't account for the internal extension of the lens but these parameters generally have a close relationship to the focal length. The 50% more tubing will give a larger light loss on the 150 which is probably a slower lens to start with...I only have details for Canon's own macro's but longer normally becomes slower to keep the price within reasonable limits.
