Tracer's 52 for 2010 (part 1) - Wk 26 -"Beginnings"

I'm with Phil on this one, simple and effective. Good composition, lighting and colours too.

Great composition and lighting and bang on theme. Would have never guessed this was stuffed unless you mentioned it.

Great shot, very well lit and get DOF. I wouldn't have guessed it was stuffed

Thank you, Iain, ProG and Darren. It is displayed rather well in a display about St Kilda, with nice lighting and a huge photo of the sea and the island group behind - you can see the layout here.

Hehehe - the Sheep to join my Cows! :D

An excellent shot, Tracer, and I didn't immediately realise it was stuffed. Well done on coping with the low light, too.

The vid of the sheep and dog made me laugh! It was a beautiful example of doggy body language being misunderstood :)

Jean

Nice and sharp. Well composed. Bang on theme.

It doesn't look at all stuffed to me, and works really well.

Good stuff!

Ian.

That's such a sharp image !!!!
Really impressed with it.

You say that it was easier to shoot than a live sheep, but you had lighting issues to contend with here that you wouldn't have outdoors. That brings a whole different set of challenges with it. I bet this was shot through glass too - and in spite of those limitations it's come out amazingly well.
Honestly, I think you're playing down how well you've done with this one.

And that's quite an intimidating stare on him - not a happy chap. But I guess being stuffed and plonked in a museum will do that to you

I sat and looked at your shot for a few minutes thinking how it looked a little fake.... then scrolled down, haha

Nice composition and you have dealt with the lighting really well. Good use of DoF.

Same here - thought he was real until I read your post. Definitely fit the theme.

Thank you, Jean, JL and Ian - I'm glad you don't think it is too much of a cheat.

Thank you, Sarah and Dan. Fortunately it wasn't in a glass case, but the light was quite dim and I was up to ISO 3200 with the lens almost wide open. I wish my hands were as steady as my husband's - he can manage much lower shutter speeds than I can.

Brilliant  I thought it looked a little mangey and then saw that it was stuffed, poor thing got fleeced by someone (sorry) Really well taken as it's certainly not imediately apparent that it's not live and out in a field somewhere :)

Excellent, very well done... There was something odd about it, that I couldn't put my finger on till I read it was stuffed... as for Paul's comment about Hartley Hare.. yep... I can see that... :D...

Some of you may have gathered that I am a keen if inexpert musician. Much of the time I'm making a lot of noise but the image represents what I hope to find in the hereafter!

I once saw a lovely cartoon - 2 angels with harps arguing: "But we've always sung it this way!"

lovely looking instrument. I really must get a bigger monitor as I can't get it all on the screen at once:(

Nice idea & nice image, well put together.

Nice bit of pping there :) I like the way you have got a nice bright light on the harp which fits in well with the bright sky....easy to mess up on something like this if you don't have the lighting consistant. My daughter is learning harp :)

Ohhh that's very clever for peac! I like that a lot. Colours are very vibrant as well. Really well done

I won't "harp" on about this shot  Love the PP and only wish I could create things like this.

Well done.

Thank you. Can you hide the toolbars in your browser to give you a bit more height?

that's a great image, and hits the theme right on the head. excellent piece of work combining the two images (unless of course you spotted a bizarre celestial event)
Thank you, Chris. You're not suggesting that this is a fake?:lol:

Nice idea & nice image, well put together.
Thank you, Steve

Thank you, Sonia. I had to flip the cloud to match the lighting. Lovely that your daughter learns the harp. Wait till you have to transport a full-size orchestral model....!

 Very clever idea!

Well done on the PP, I bet that wasn't easy to do. I'm completely useless at the whole cutting and pasting images thing.

The harp is well lit and beautifully sharp and you've picked the perfect cloud formation to sit it on.
Thank you, Sarah. The cutting out was a pain (I don't think it stands up to close inspection)and took ages in PSE3. There is a good video on doing it here, or with the full Photoshop the "blend if" option can help.

I agree with Sarah - an excellent take on the theme, and well-executed.:clap::clap:

It made me smile! Do you play the harp - it always looks terribly complicated?

Jean
Thank you, Jean. No I don't and yes it is! I hope that when I retire I will have some time to learn it but meantime it looks nice on the wall. It is a medieval model, made from a kit I bought in a sale some years ago.

That's a cool idea and thinking outside the box, nice one.

Allan
Thank you, Allan

I won't "harp" on about this shot  Love the PP and only wish I could create things like this.

Well done.
Thank you, Briony. The great thing about this site is that it encourages you to try something new. I might have had the idea but would never have attempted to try it out if it hadn't been for the week's challenge. I found the learning curve even with PSE quite steep at first but if you stick with it you'll find it very rewarding....and time consuming .

What an inventive image!

Very nice idea, and expertly executed. Looks like great care was taken with the PP and it shows. I like these kinds of shot where the PP is obvious, yet done for a reason.

Ian.

Really clever shot. I've tried balancing stuff on clouds too, but they always bloody well fall through. ;)

stare: am with the others, didnt realise it was stuffed initially.. nicely done given the light conditions, I really struggle with low light photography!

peace: perfect for the theme.. fantastic PP skills too, what a great idea

Thank you, Ian, Dean and Michelle. The PP took me ages in PSE3, so I'm glad it came out as well as it did.

A little explanation. I am addicted to oranges and particularly blood oranges which have such a wonderful sweet but tangy flavour. They are only available for a few weeks in spring, so I have been indulging myself by gorging on them. They didn't last long after I took the photo!

It also fits Briony's alternative "close" theme. :)

A very sharp, well composed and well lit image.

I prefer to indulge on beer and cream cakes so well done for being so healthy

Andy

I like your indulgence image a lot Tracer, good perspective and composition. The colours are really vivid too, its well presented with the border, the image would not look out of place in an advertisement, well done. Iain

As others have said, you have a healthy indulgence there!

I like your crop, and the curves running through the frame. It looks a tad soft to me though, but the last few 52's I've looked at have all been soft, so it could be my eyes/monitor.

They look nice & juicy!

Ian.

Well I reckon that's the healthiest indulgence shot we'll have this week.
It definitely looks sharp on my monitor and I really like the random composition of this. Works very well and this type of shot always reminds of the prints we had in the reception area of one office I worked in.

Delicious as they may be, for me blood oranges aren't the most photogenic subject though, sorry.
It kind of reminds me of somebody chopping their finger while cutting them and bleeding all over the place
Looks like I'm alone in this, and it's definitely a personal thing rather than a fault with the shot.
